Well I am not paid by China company but Malaysia company .... I am quite under pay and oversea allowance can't help me forever ...

I am not planning to stay in China for long term too ... According to my experience ... I don't like here ... Food, activity, people etc ... With my pay ... I can't even afford one toilet bowl here ... Houses ? U are looking at around 1.5 mil and above ... One master room ... One walkway which only can fit one person ... One toilet ... Condor ... Whole house is like 2 normal room size in Malaysia ... Btw I am in Shanghai ...

Like I said, GST in Malaysia has evened the playing field a LOT. Have you compared lately? Example:

http://www.lelong.com.my/asus-strix-gtx980...6-10-Sale-P.htm rm3,599

Selling in Singapore (bizgram asia) at sgd1,199 i.e. rm3,621

Cheaper in Malaysia? Yes, by 0.6%. Last time before GST it always is significantly cheaper to buy everything in LYP or whatever, but now after GST it's not.

Ask the father mother brother sister to claim GST refund.

100% nvr thought of owning a car in sg

I always take public transport till the new job interview  wink.gif

Really need to do some survey first before buying a car in sg

Pros and cons
*
Company normally provide the car if your job require a car. My work don't require a car but my company paid some portion of it because it make them look good. So regret to give in to the trap. The car has depreciate 30% of its value over the years.

How much % ur company pay for ur car?

Now even the dp is problem to me, as max loan is 50% oni
*
They give me a lump sump for the car in my package. Roughly 40% of the car. Just nice to cover the 50% cash payment.

Is actually depends to individual

I value my life than working

So i aim for efficiency and go home when after office hours

While lots of my colleague stay back OT even they have little or nothing to do

Ang moh and asian mentality lo. I fly every Friday back home and uncontactable for half of the day, my colleague and HR file complain to my boss. Not a word heard from my boss.

If my boss is ah tiong kind of mindset, I pack bag long time already.

All I can say is you are lucky the bangla hasn't replaced you yet. No offense to them.. they are just making an honest living.

But if they were capable enough to do your job, for a quarter of your salary.. well, capitalism and free market economy takes over.
*
We also making honest living leh. Just small people living humble day to day life. Don't mock me leh.

If others progress more, should be happy for them, not jealous. Hidup Banglasia, thanks MY gahmen for giving them a chance for living like what they did for our ancestors escaping from Cina last time.

QUOTE(the99percent1 @ Dec 17 2015, 10:26 AM)
what do you know of my accomplishments, experience, qualifications and skill to make such a judgement call?

Has it ever occurred to you that out of 20 people in kl operations, why was I the only one to not be let go and furthermore, brought into sg under all costs?

You know nothing about me to make a suggestion..

Heck, what do you know of my field or industry to be able to even suggest anything?

For someone who supposedly is earning a lot of money, haven't youve learnt to keep your opinions to yourself?

I know what is best for myself. If I say pr is the next route for me if I want to progress here in sg, then that is what I will do..
*
Coz you not holding PEP maybe. Dedorant used to hold PEP 3.0, meaning he satisfied criteria for 3 time the requirement of normal PEP, before being offered PR. If you PEP rank you won't bother with SPass, EP or PR already. You is 20 chose 1, Dedorant is 1 million candidate chose 1 with expat package to SG to head the main arm of a bank now.

QUOTE(fruitie @ Dec 17 2015, 10:47 AM)
I'm more than curious of one point, if you are doing well in KL, why would you opt to move to SG and fight with those S Pass holders?
You have a choice right? unsure.gif

If today I were to move to SG but not going to have those luxurious lifestyle like back in KL, for sure I don't want. I don't want to be a slave there. laugh.gif

I've heard a lot about this, but been working and living here for the past 7+years (PR for 6+ years), and i've yet to experience this...
married (wife MY Citizen, SG PR)  with 2 kids born here in SG (also MY Citizen, SG PR) and own a HDB here, renewed my REP (including my kid ones, since kids REP are tied to parents) online without much drama.
So i'm not sure if SG Gov is still pressuring PRs to convert.
*
They still do on and off. See your luck.

Don't know. Seems like he taking SG salary while based in MY but good time over. His SGD KL pay can win managerial position leh don't play play. Aiya, don't scratch people's wound leh, no need to say out not competent enough to take high salary right. Blame sky blame earth lo, now EP blame SP system not fair, get PR blame many gahmen aids to SC, after SC blame gahmen policy for FT friendly etc etc, but forget look in mirror.

Need to ask those who are familiar with SG, what are the common/popular residential areas along the East West line?
TQ.

Clementi and Bedok. You see hordes of people in the morning and evening peak boarding and alighting. That is your common residential area.

QUOTE(titarium @ Dec 17 2015, 02:37 PM)
To All Bro and Sis here , after reading the border crossing difficulties face by fellow Malaysian (some probably are Singaporeans). I sincerely advice rent a place in SG rather to face the miserable daily crossing.

I have been all the while supporting the idea to stay in SG instead of traveling , especially if you are working in SG pay 1,500 above please stay in SG.

Let me compute :
Daily borders crossing about SGD 3 * 20 = 60 SGD
Your per hour pay min 8 SGD * 20 * 4 (hours travelling) = 640 SGD

That's easily 700 SGD value , infact we shouldn't place monetary value on lost hours it is actually way way much higher , time wasted can't be earn.

With 500 - 600 SGD can have a common room around outskirt , probably closer to your work place.

With budget 200-300 SGD can have a shared common room , definitely choose closer to work place.

Not only save on traveling time , able to be more relax and spend more quality time for yourself , further more can earn more by during OT or Odd jobs !

If concern about daily cost usage bring in food from Malaysia : Tuna , Milo , Bread, Biscuits , Fruits ; either way can refresh every week while going back for groceries shopping , actually if wanna save the hassle eating at the food court around outskirt area still have 2.5 SGD noodle and rice , 4 SGD Zhi Cha comparable what it is in JB (because I know you guys will go have it at Wong Kok , Ajishen , Daore , old town ... etc etc.. )

It would be a different case for those who drive in and out daily. Above suggestion are those travelling via Bikes and Bus / walk....

Only thing to hinder this idea , is when you have a family , it would be more sensible if both are working and combine income > 8k , then is easier to have whole family in SG.

Please do not waste your time to save the few hundred dollars , isn't worth your health .
*
If there is a flight 6pm back home, return at 6am, I would do it, everyday. Some are those what local call them jiu hu kia, got family got bond there, what for rent room in SG. Non jiu hu like some of us then ok la stay in SG.

When i first came here a 2-3 years ago the traffic at tuas wasn't that bad. Most of the time we would reach on time. This year that went away, so I end up getting stuck for at least 1 hour before I even get into SG immigration (leaving SG for KL), so I end up arriving really late, which is not very nice for the parents picking us up.

So I decided to fly instead. More predictable.
*
Tony say his plane cheaper than train and bus leh. Hidup Tony notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif ! Fly much more relax lo no need to pack the horde, jam, on schedule and main thing no call no email can reach you while on the plane. But don't like his air stewardess start calling me Madam, still Ms la.

QUOTE(madmoz @ Dec 18 2015, 10:25 AM)
I'm banking on the high speed rail.
Can't understand why the opposition is dead set against it. It'll open up the labour market in KL, forcing many companies to start paying competitive rates as the ada oomph workers can easily travel down south for work...
Oh, mebbe that's why...
*
SG gahmen not dumb one. The flooding of cheap labour now in the end they also need to get out of the country with their unsustainable pay and high property price what. You see it as cheaper labour competition, SG may see it as access to cheaper properties and resources to make those middle class get out of SG and keep the riches in the island. This Mr. Lee not simple la.

Guys, thanks for the comments on the estimated cost of living I will need to allocate.

I wish I can stay in a bigger room too but I'm coming from KL and all my advances are all to be paid with my savings here before getting any salary in SGD? sad.gif

Assuming if a room is $1k, usually market is 2 or 3 months advanced right? That's a RM 6k-9k. shocking.gif
*
Stay within your acceptable range can already. No need kena peer pressure must stay big room, in the end also not your room. Better save and pay installment for your house rather than people's house. My household expenditure around 30% of our income. Now quite comfortable lo even if kena retrench also no need care. I know some miser spent only 10% of his pay in SG then 90% bring home.

hey guys, newbie here planning to work at singapore soon.

about the working passes, i noticed you all talked about the S-pass vs EP pass

i thought it's just a threshold? why so important ?

sorry for noob question tongue.gif
*
For some its no difference. Read it here.

http://www.mom.gov.sg/passes-and-permits

EP can bring family members here, seen to be easier for PR application, work permit cannot marry local, cannot get pregnant, what else... o some will see it as a status, comparing themselves high high up looking down at S pass and work permit holder.

Hello, please don't =.=" and comment on others' salary. You don't want others to =.=" yours too. The bosses like deodorant and makkido will laugh till they die out loud if they want to go around mocking people. And the expected salary for SG is SG's market rate for that job. Refer to the stats other people have done, not 80% 120% of MY pay.
