Airport usage is very simple. Upon firing up my Macbook, it automatically detects my WiFi signals and all i had to do was enter the correct key and that's it.
in your case - can you tell us what have you done so far? is the WiFi you're connecting to DHCP enabled? does it have WEP / WPA / WPA2 encryption?

i don't think the problem are on your Macbook airport setting.
try to set your router security to WPA, give it a password, save it and re-try to connect on your macbook. If you have a good reason to stick with WEP, pls set a password and try it.
Did you create a close network on your wifi router? what router are you using?

well from my findings seems like there is an issue with Airport on the new Core 2 Duo MacBooks. It seems to be incompatible with certain 3rd party routers. Apparently cause of the rumoured inclusion of the Draft N.
Try to find a firmware update for your router if all else fail.

You might want to read this, before rejecting my suggestion. iBook is not a Macbook Pro, the construciton is totally different. Mind you, the Airport card is different too. There's no harm changing your router's setting. You can always backup your previous setting. Also, you might want to read this & this. This post has been edited by wei: Dec 4 2006, 10:52 PM

you can do the reverse. connect your only lan to your macbook pro, in your mbp enable internet sharing via Airport. Connect the rest of the computer to your mbp's airport network.

hrmm......... my macbook is the core duo version, on 10.4.8 as well. no problem with my WPA encrypted WiFi signal. Issue or symptomAfter upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4.8, some Intel-based computers may not auto-connect to remembered networks that use WPA2 or WEP security. This article explains how to correct this behavior. didn't mention WPA though, but sinec WPA is between WEP and WPA2 so i guess it's included.

QUOTE(wei @ Mar 17 2007, 10:39 AM) I don't get it, which "last update" you meant? the latest AirPort update, it is suppost to help in connecting with the airport extreme or something. before that there was another update which allowed me to connect to my router. i have another question, since the update allows mac to connect. what about in windows mode? i cant connect.

QUOTE Updating to Boot Camp 1.2 beta If you previously installed Boot Camp beta, you can easily update to Boot Camp 1.2 beta. You don't need to partition your hard drive again (unless you want to change its size) or reinstall your Macintosh and Windows software or documents, but it's very important to update the Boot Camp Assistant software, create a new Mac Drivers CD and install the updated software it contains onto Windows. Complete instructions are provided in the Installation and Setup Guide included with the Boot Camp 1.2 beta software. use the search function my fren.
