Owning a camera doesn't make you a pro photographer mind you. When you charge any fees people expect good results from you.

Practice until you are good enough, starting out as a newbie won't help you to build any reputation in the long run.

by pro i don't mean you have good skills or what, you are a professional once you started charging.

what I am trying to say is, don't think about earning money first when you are new, sharpen your skills until you are confident enough.

Take pictures of your breakfast / lunch / dinner - see how it turns out. Output no good, forget about offering your service.

You can try uploading your photos to stock photo and see if it passes their grade.

Here's mine http://www.dreamstime.com/goldfries_portfolio_pg1

The following images were taken with my handphone........

Your camera is more than capable. Now is whether you can, so before you start making money - consider what level is your photography.

I started off doing shoots for free to build up a portfolio. Then put yourself up in social media websites for the world to see.

Have lots of patience and have more networking skills.

Luck plays a small role too.

OK so start by approaching people to offer your service.

Ok, so let's say you approach people to offer your services as Goldfries mentioned. Then, if they're willing to part with their money for what you offer, I'm pretty sure they would want to see what you can actually deliver before handing the money over to you. Now what? Sure as hell you're not gonna pull some pics off Google Images and pass it off as your own right?

Think about it, wouldn't you do the same thing?

There's no free breakfast, lunch or dinner... and don't even think about supper. You want to make money out of this? Rub on some elbow grease.

Forget money in the beginning......when you thinking too much of photography as a career you lose the art.

I agree with you.

Volunteer service would definitely shows your effort. Eg. you may actually help friends in wedding, or graduation photos

Do your first job for free. Used it as you portfolio and charge low price on the second then raise it when you get more call.

- join networking events
- tag along another photographer

If you're good enough. What you need are contacts and marketing to make yourself more visible.
