Let's say I'm buying a used car, and I would like to change the number plate to a new one. How do I go about and what are the cost? Involved?

I would prefer to do it myself if possible, however it the hassle is too much then I might consider a runner's service.

Just tell the salesman u want to swap number. I think they do it free or with small fee

According to my used car dealer he said that will cost RM1000 for runner fees, I'm quite shocked it costs that much which is why I would like to do it myself first

even a normal number selection would cost RM350, even if you do ureself the cost shall be around RM600 to RM800 ..

Wait u buying a used car, but u dun like the number and want to get a new number?
FYI plate number must be "swapped" for used cars, u cant just register a used car with a new plate.
The only possible way is to buy a motor and swap the current number to motor, then apply new number for car.

TBH dont waste ur money, it really costs about 800-1K.
U are not buying a new car anyway, or an expensive car.

Cheapest cost i know so far is RM800 to park your old number at new motorcycle at dealer shop.

Do you have a contact to the runner that did this, and do you know whether that RM800 inclusive of the new number?

my SA quoted me 1400 for number swapping when i bought a new car.
your existing car will have to be sent to Puspakom for inspection before the swapping.

hm my uncle.. love his plate number.. single digit the few with 8 or 7 better, pay up to RM50K- 100K xx rich ppl with money over flow their account.. x

That is if you buy an old car. My situation is if you want to change a used car's plate without buying a new car

just go find someone who wants to buy a bike and dun mind using your plate. basically the person register his NEW bike with your plate and you are free to register one for yourself

Charging RM1.4k just for number plate change is exorbitant.

Better go Topmark.
It is an authorized reseller by Toyota for used cars.
They provide 1 year warranty.

Same goes to MUV and Mazda Anshin.
Authorized reseller for Nissan and Mazda respectively.

If I am not wrong, Hyundai, Volvo, BMW do have pre-owned vehicles as well.

Nah I'm not buying a used Toyota. But nevertheless the issue will still be same, they might still ask me to pay exorbitantly for swap of plate..

It seems it isn't something I can do legally without buying a new motor or getting a runner to do that method
