Doubt your friend is telling the truth.

Starting pay for PhD in engineering is 6.35k inclusive of allowance. PhD in other fields, except medicine, get 500 less than that. Increment is only 290 per year for assistant professors now. Slightly higher for associate and full professors.

Salary range is pretty wide but I can't see many earning more than 15k unless they joined at the start under the old regime.

Yeah.

UTAR doesn't pay that well. Even if you teach master's course, they only pay you a maximum of 30% of your basic salary.

Think only the medical department has a much higher salary. Not sure how much is that, though.
