29 with PhD, you did the PhD part time is it? or fast track skip masters?
nice salary.

Thanks 5tar5cr3am!

It was a fast track program offered to me right after my Bachelor degree so I took it as I wasn't really clear about my future back then. Almost 4 years down the road and I realized that research isn't really what I want, so I jumped ship while preparing for my viva. Then it took me another year to finally submit my corrected thesis while juggling with work, but looking back I reckoned it was the right decision as I'm already like 4 years behind. =)

Hi there! Mind sharing your daily job scope?
I'm a recent fresh grad working in IT field as well but I doubt that my salary can go that high in 2 years time sad.gif

Sure! Long story short this position is all about post-sales delivery/support for enterprise solution. So we need to manage delivery project, knowledge transfer, value-added services, analyzing+triaging+troubleshooting application issues, involve in PoC if possible and identify sales opportunity for expansion. I have to admit the job is a bit challenging but worthwhile.

I think my education background has a lot to do with what I am getting now for my salary. But remember that I wasn't working for almost 4 years after my first degree - a lot of people are earning more than me with 6 years of cumulative working experience. smile.gif

Years spent in company : 1

Industry : Information Technology
Tenure : Parmanent
Employment Level : Exec
Experience before joining : 5 years
Highest paper qualification/ education background : Degree
current salary : 10k (could be higher, got shitty increment this year)

Location: KL

Is that possible to get higher range of salary for technical role in KL? I seem to hit bottleneck already. Anyone could shed some lights?
*
Yeah, 10K is pretty much on the high tier in KL market, so unless you get promoted or expanded job scope it will be hard to get good increment. Also at this point it can be a little more difficult to jump ship because we will be expecting higher salary range which are usually reserved for managerial role. However it is another story if your company does not have a localized budget - let's say your payroll budget is under Aussie HQ, so what they are paying you now is not really significant, and good increment can be expected.

Another way is to go other countries which have bigger currency - like SG. Ask for a salary like 6-8K SGD, and work your way up or keep jumping ship until you wanna come back to Malaysia. One thing is that you can keep doing technical stuff without having to plan for going managerial since it is not entirely rare for a SME to get >15k SGD in SG. The downside is that once you're accustomed to what you're making in SG, it will be HARD to convince yourself to come back. Or super duper HARD to make the same amount of money in MY. So in most cases it's like a one-way ticket, so consider carefully before making the jump.
