Triple? Man, that must be quite demotivating to the senior execs. It would demotivate me for sure.
Did you counter back to your CTO that you
can do the same work just as fast and that you are just as experienced? Wonder what he would've said.
I tried googling this and did find some articles but most of them were related to the salaries of expats in Humanitarian Aide/NGO organisations and how big the gap is compared to locals in specific countries where the NGO is assisting.
Not much on this topic in other industries. There was one generic article saying that one of the justifications was the
'hardships' of living abroad, 'inconveniences' and 'exchange rate' of said expat and their home country as factors for the gap in salary. I kinda chuckled because well maybe back in the 60s or 70s you could use that argument. But these days I think 'hardship' would be better replaced by 'perks' and 'benefits' of working abroad.
Also, from a broader perspective, wouldn't it be better if they evened out the salary gap? By that I mean probably reducing the wages of expats while increasing the wage of the locals. But again, I'm not a business owner so I am not talking from experience.
Any employers/upper management/owner of businesses care to comment? I'm asking because, sincerely, I want to know why - please don't take this as an attack on expats or failure of upper-management in managing employees.
Yup.. like seriously demotivating.. i'll give u example..
senior salary : 6K++
expats salary : 18K++
my company taking expats from some company which provide IT people.
the expats company will take around 50 - 60% of their offered salary.
which will give them around RM7k - RM9k..
As for my opinion.. they can get 2 or 3 people from our local with the offered salary and still able to get the job done..
CTO also like hidding something never answer directly.. really want to know the reason..
Not sure la cause my head also expat 8 years working here..
