Job Title : Field Engineer
Job Desciption : Install & commission new machines. Occasionally servicing machine at customer site.
Years spent in company : 2 years
Company : -
Industry : O&G
Employment Level : Basically the lowest in hierarchy
Experience before joining : 3.5 years
Highest paper qualification/ education background : Degree in Engineering
Salary: Basic = RM 5.5k + OT + Allowance
Bonus: 1 month (13th-month) + Performance (2 months last year)
Location: Everywhere

Monthly salary varies from basic 5.5k , to 20k, depending on the job and location.

I think the pay is fine, as long as I work somewhere, I get the extra money from OT and allowance.

However, ever since I joined the company I didn't get any pay rise (since oil and gas is having a real bad time). In fact the whole company didn't get a pay rise so I cannot complain. My boss is being nice and I think my appraisal was one of the better one among colleagues, which is why the 2 months bonus last year (which is consider very good for our company already).

I am a little bit worry, since my basic is quite average / below average, it will definitely impact the salary that I can ask for, for my next job.

Appraisal time is coming, not sure if this is a good idea to voice out the concern to my boss. But seeing the whole company didn't get pay rise and the whole industry is down, don't think will be useful to voice out anyway. Any suggestion from fellow sifus?

It's industry wide bro, not just in your company.
If you can't negotiate for a salary increase why not negotiate to be sent for a really good training course instead. That way you're still developing your skills and can still use it in future interviews.

Yeap, I guess this is why everyone is keeping silent although this is the second consecutive year which we don't get increment. Actually heard news that company is starting to reduce head-count and cutting some contract staff sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

Still got sent for training last year, not sure about this year, requesting but boss say will have to depend on the budget since the main focus this year would be "cost" lol ....

Anyway, guess it's not a good time to jump anywhere now. Just pray my future job will look at overall income, not the basic salary. Else would be very tough unsure.gif unsure.gif
