For those of you in IT. Whats the rough maximum bracket in IT software development? I'm around the RM10k, range. Wondering if I would have to branch up into the management/project management field to get into a higher bracket up to the RM15k range?

QUOTE(coolguy99 @ Feb 20 2016, 11:19 PM) 30 years old and already 10k. you are doing pretty well mate. I think 10k is a decent figure...probably normal now. Saw many people posted a much higher figure here. I'm guessing we have to branch into management field to get into a higher bracket. I wonder whats the pay range for those in IT management field. Those who are actually managing projects and etc. All I've seen are those salary reports from Jobstreet and Kelly etc.

QUOTE(coolguy99 @ Feb 20 2016, 11:41 PM) i had quite a number of friends who made the jump from technical to project management (business analyst / project manager), maybe you can consider taking that path too. not too sure about the pay range though but i am sure they do pay well. ah yes. I'm going to maintain in the technical field for a little bit more.. Will try to jump into the project management field once I've the experience.

QUOTE(petirbuas @ Feb 21 2016, 04:50 PM) Unfortunately management is the only path to go for most organization. Though, I believe its not for everyone. I recently took a pay cut to "downgrade" from management, back to technical path. Human is more complex than system RM10k for 7-10years experience is not uncommon for cream of the crop(especially team leader). Also, IMO if one hasn't break RM5k barrier with that kind of experience, I'd be very careful on hiring them. I've seen it for any major languages. PHP, Python, C, Java you name it. Language is merely a tool. Ah kinda rare to see people who downgrade to management from technical. I've met a senior who did that and the main reason was he wanted to spend more time with his family. Just curious though. Do you know whats the rough pay grade for IT project managers or the pay grade for Senior Managers in IT Consulting firms?
