Job Title : Senior Account Executive
Job Desciption : AR, AP, GL, GST, full set of accounting
Years spent in company : 9 years
Company : Local
Industry : Medical equipment & disposables
Age: 32
Highest paper qualification/ education background : Deg In acc & Fin Uni Abertay Dundee
salary : RM4.6k + allowance RM 400
Location : Klang Valley

Recently I went for some interview and got only "verbal" confirmation so far that this "BIG" japanese company is planning to hire me based on the HR verbal confirmation with me..

New salary : RM 5.3K no allowance
Benefit : more or less the same as my current company, 14 days AL, medical.. etc..

I need some sharing and ideas from members here :

1. Worth to jump on the new ship? Considering I "may" sacrifice a managerial pose in my current company.. I can only foresee a AM position at current company, due to non MIA members..

2.  New ship = more job + OT + possibility weekend work.. Old ship more flexible whether to OT or not , and working on weekend is definitely lesser..

3. Current company : already 2 years no increment, and this year no vitamin B due to poor performance of company.. New company : increment possible and bonus possible but it's not contractual..

4. New company can learn many new things due to manufacturing.. Current only doing trading although they have recently purchased new factory..

I hope i am making the right decision to move to this new company, even though my FC told me to re-consider since it's not really a BIG jump from current position..

Like what fuzzy said, compensation wise is not good enough. But since nothing is concrete, wait until they provide you the offer letter to sign. Try to demand for higher package since you already have so much experience to back you up. Learning or not, I guess is not the issue here since you have already RM5000 in hand with flexible schedule. The only thing that can praise you away from current company is that no increment for 2 years.

New job can learn more, but with higher workload and gonna be hectic for you to pick up.

Try to get the offer letter, show it to your immediate superior. If they counter, you get higher salary and stay where you are comfortable with. Else just move on to another if they do not counter.

One more question, both workplace near your house? Do put distance into consideration as toll & petrol might cost extra to you. Best is that the new company new your place, use less petrol and no toll. laugh.gif

QUOTE(shinchan99 @ Mar 29 2016, 09:18 AM)
chicken: my FC also told me its not really that worth to jump for just a mere 6% .. He used this reason to ask me to stay and give them another 2 years to turn around the company from loss to profit.. What's your say on this ?

belphegor: the current company knows how much the new company is paying me, at this moment they can only open for discussion to match my new company salary, which is still subject to final approval from MD.. Whereas new job is totally different, there's definitely plenty to learn from manufacturing (they've described some during the interview too) and I had already expecting myself to have a more hectic work load in this new company.. Distance for current company is nearer by at least 10km but there's jam, so takes me 45 minutes to reach compared to new company further but no jam and takes me only 30 minutes to reach.. Toll wise is the same, parking is free at new company, but not that significant since the current company parking is around RM30 +- per month..

Questions for thought :
1. Should you gain more experience / different knowledge from different company culture and industry sacrificing monetary terms?
2. Considering first question, at this age should I be focused more on learning as opposed to monetary terms?
3. Considering second question, at my age just starting a family , what should be a better choice? Experience VS money ? ( assuming you have a decent life now, wife is actually working, going to have 1st kid in this coming year, at the moment sufficient money to pay mortgage, car loan and house expense.. )

Anyone can share their experience.. they call this, mid life crisis eh ? biggrin.gif
*
Superior always use this kind of reasons to make people stay. "Give more time so that we can reward you in better way" Which I think is really stupid cause they cannot 100% confirm that the company would make profit in 2 years time.

Since the currently company know how much the potential employer offer, I'd suggest you to just wait for their reply. Since there's chance for you to increase your salary, why not? But if you really planning on moving to another company, request for at least 10% - 15% increment. Really no point to go over even if you set your path to that company. Once they review and decide to increase the package, I'd say just go for it because I think you can learn more despite your age. There's never ending in learning. Learn more to increase your power in negotiating/demand on package. Experience will bring money, but money cannot bring experience. It's really your call on this. And no one would want to settle for less, go for more la bro. laugh.gif

The main reason why i tender before i sign the letter is because of the notice period.. I suppose to serve 3 months notice but cut short 2 months after deduct leave + compensation back to company .. So the later i tender, the more i need to compensate..

So seems like short term saving is causing me big problem now sad.gif
*
I suggest you don't pay anything to your company but serve the whole 3 month period while you go out there hunt for another offer AND wait for the reply from the company that had verbal confirmation with you. Since there's 3 months, should sufficient for you to secure another job.

Once you sign the offer letter and send back to the company, only talk to your current company HR you want to cut short and ask what's the compensation package you need to pay off. And tell the company B that you need to serve 3 months. Never ever let them know you can serve less than that.

Latest update from me :

Called this morning to the "BIG" japanese company and told me my offer got rejected due to lack of MIA membership for that kind of salary.. Should had smell something rotten since they are not picking up my call..

Not that I feel sad or what because i didnt get the offer just didnt like the way they handle things unprofessionally..

So lesson learnt.. Never ever decide anything until something concrete is up.. Verbal is just words that dissappear in thin air sad.gif

Since you have already tender, continue serve the notice fully. At the same time try to send out your CV to all the companies that you can reach out. 3 months should suffice for you to secure another position.

I didn't know you can change department for so many times under a company. But what's your interest actually? CS or HR? You need to figure that out as soon as possible else your experience will not be relevant.

In my current company, we can do internal transfer if there are position available.
Of course we need to go through interviews, if pass the interview then we can transfer from A dept to B dept

I'm interested in management that's why I transferred from operation to HR.

Then stick with management related positions and climb whenever possible.

I guess which field also quite important isn't it? I am not from those really niche market. I am currently in marketing field. Hard to hit that kind of number unless I got promoted as manager or something. :/
