My portfolio website is http://www.yks.co.nz/ from a few years ago, these days I just rely on my reputation to get new projects. The bulk of my work is based in NZ, but it includes survey/mapping apps & websites.
I am expanding into mapping using drones for the next 24 months.
My main technology stack is mostly AWS lambda, dynamoDB, etc, and xcode (moving into xamarin or equivalent), and your typical html/js for web. The drone tech and computer vision is in C and C# etc

I got pr there around 2002 , back then the government still had positive immigration incentives, now its a bit harder. Now they are looking for people with certain skills
, heres the link http://skillshortages.immigration.govt.nz/
Which you can try apply for. Other ways is to find a girlfriend there with residency already or company to sponsor you, both not easy.

If you have time on the side, i believe there will be large emerging market for consumer automation/robotic/IoT, might be worthwhile to learn those to complement your software skills. The software market is saturated now at bottom half end, lots of people undercutting everybody else, and one person is required to be fullstack to even have good chance for job.

within the overseas job market, they wont bother to hire from overseas unless you have some sought after skills like machine learning or other deeper Cs skills

Anyone here working on a daily rates as contractor? I was offered a 12 mths extendable contract of MYR600 per day. No other perks.

I have more than 7 years of experience, does the rate sounds reasonable?

If it is an 8 hour per day job, it's pretty reasonable but depends on your job scope and duration. However, the "no other perks" part is a concern. Do you mean no medical, expense reimbursement, transportation and accommodation? If you live in KL but have to move elsewhere to do the job, you may have to reconsider.

Are you expected to be on call 24/7 , whats the working hours like, what field is it in, is the contract definitely for 1 year or can they cut it short anytime? I think depending on the above factors, its within reasonable for 7 years exp.

Without any background on what the job entails it's hard to judge. I'm paying my contractor a daily rate of RM4,000 and higher but these are for experienced telecommunications consultants in a risky area.

My desktop support engineer on the other hand is RM350 per day at a desk job in a cushy office...

I'm aware that my pay is above average, just wanna know if any of you are in a similar situation... If yes, what are you aiming for in your career by 30 years old? Any comments or feedback would be appreciated.
