Can someone please help me to understand how come my prudential medical card PMM3 is so expensive as compared to Great Eastern SmartMedic 200 medical card?

At my age of 35, monthly insurance charges allocated for Prudential PMM3 is RM104.xx. And monthly insurance charges for my GE SM200 (with higher annual and lifetime limits) is only RM43.xx.

Although the monthly premium would not increase. But as I aged, the insurance charges for Prudential PMM3 will be sky-high in my golden years.

I'm thinking to keep only one medical card --- either Prudential PMM3 (cover upto 70 years old) or GE SM200 (cover upto 80 years old). Should I cancel my Prudential PMM3 and keeping my GE SM200? I need a valuable opinion from the sifus here. Thank you in advance smile.gif

Hi,

I'm not familiar with PMM3. perhaps can you give me a camera shoot of the benefit included in the PMM3? As I know PMM3 is having the 20% co-insurance if over room&board. So, basically it works almost the same with Smart Medic.

It's not advisable to keep 2 medical cards due to the hassle in claim(if it's different company, you have to chase and follow up with the company) and it's only claimable up to your medical bill, because it doesn't work like lump sum payment insurance(life/TPD/36 CI).

If you have the budget, I'd advise you to call your agents and ask them for a upgrade of medical from both companies. Compare the upgraded version of both company and then cancel the remaining one will save you some money with better benefit.

I made a mistake. My actual Prudential medical card is called PMM2 300 instead of PMM3. Attached are the screenshots of the plan.

I don't understand how come on page 1 it mentions 'no coinsurance' but in page 2 under "Benefits Limitations", it talks about 10% of co-insurance.
Is this a co-insurance or non co-insurance medi card?
Any Prudential agents here? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you all the sifus here for your valuable time and thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Hi Mr. Roy, I'm from Penang. Unfortunately my current agent (KWSP building, Penang) has limited knowledge. May I know if I opted to upgrade my existing PMM2 medi card to PruFlexi Med, does it mean all my current benefits will be cancelled and new T&C of PruFlexi Med will be applied?

Hi Gavin,

A-Life Med Regular standalone medical card is quite attractive. May I know is this medic card guaranteed renewable? Or the company has the right to reject in next renewal if ones is not healthy anymore?

Thank you.

I called Prudential Customer Careline and Claims Dept to enquire about medical card upgrade programmes from PMM 3 to the newly launched PruFlexi Med. Unfortunately, I'm not eligible for the upgrade due to I had made a claim in year 2010. Although the amount is only Rm346 (excess claim from company's group insurance).

No luck sad.gif

So kind of you Mr. Roy. I feel pai seah asking other agent for help bcoz they did not earn any commissions from my policy . My current agent has limited knowledge. His education background is not good. So I don't want to bother him. Usually I will call customer service or walk-in to the counter. So far so good.

Allow me to share my experience here about these 3 insurance companies - - Prudential, Great Eastern, HLA.

My GE agent sudah lari. Policy auto switch to upline. But the new agent nowhere can be found. Had sent a complaint letter to GE head office and requesting for changing a new agent. Until now almost a month but no news yet despite numerous follow up with email and phone call. I feel regretted buying insurance from this company. I should have listened to my friends that this company is not so good. The reason I sign up GE policy is because back in year 2010. This is the only company in Malaysia offering smart early payout for critical illness. Now thinking to cancel this policy and switch to other insurers but feel sayang coz already served for a few years. Each year the premium is Rm4200. Last 2 days walk-in to customer service counter to enquire about premium reduction if cancel SM200. They cannot offer me an answer coz they don't have the software (how come HLA can do it but GE can't?). Instead, asking me to contact my servicing agent but she is MIA. I don't have an agent to contact for almost 6 months... really pek chek. However, there is some good things about this company. I personally like the e-connect where customer is able to check the detail of the policy via Internet login.

HLA - no issue with the claims. But lousy computer system. During the system migration, there was a system glitch and causing my credit card auto debit cannot get thru. Have to use manual work. After few months of complaint, they finally cancel my old policy and reissue me a new policy number. When I told them I have doubt on the cash value. They ask me to provide the yearly statements for checking as they can't trace from their end. Wah lau.....how many of you would keep the yearly account statements? This aren't the one for income tax submission.

Prudential - my first policy since 1997. Processing for claims and unit trust redemption are very fast. No issue at all. Great customer service. But the insurance charges rate is little higher as compared to competitors. How I wish I cud monitor my policy online like GE.

I have 2 medic cards... Prudential & GE. Have plan to consolidate into one card. 36CI with Prudential. Another 36CI with smart early payout under GE. Had cancelled HLA after the incident of system issue.

Mind to PM me which HLA agency that had system issue? Thanks smile.gif

It is not agency specific. In year 2006, HQ is doing system upgrades/migration.
I'm not the only one affected. According to my agent, there are plenty of clients were facing the similar issue.

After I wrote-in to GE head office, at last my servicing agent was successfully changed to my preferred choice (different agencies) together with the agent commissions being transferred as I insisted .

Thinking of keeping my GE policy as the premium is reasonable with the following benefits:
IL CIBR (36 CI) - 200k
SEPCC (early payout for CI) - 200k
SM200 (medic card)
IL HB (hospitalisation benefits) - 200
IL PWE (premium waiver) - 4200

My next attained age is 36. Should I add SME200 due to hike of hospital R&B?
Hi GE agents out there, may I know the daily meals are categorised as "Hospital Supplies & Services" or under 'Room & Board'? Thank you!

I'd recommend you to add SME because it's cheap, what's your new agent's comment on your question regarding the daily meal?
*
He said it should be under room & board. My Prudential PMM2 300 has Rm300 R&B. Daily meals are under "In-Hospital & Related Service Benefit (as charged)". It is clearly stated in the policy contract.

I just read through the GE policy contract. OMG.... accommodation and meals are under R&B

Yeap, it's under R&B, why do you OMG? blush.gif

Coz Rm200 R&B sure not enough for 2 bedded room in Penang private hospitals blink.gif
I think the daily meal for most of the old medic card is not under R&B. So the benefits are much more better albeit the lifetime limit is low.

Now I believe "what you pay is what you get".

To me food is very important coz I don't have relatives here. I can't ask my agent to bring me food everyday... Haha..

I was admitted to GMC Penang in year 2010 for minor surgery. Was there for 5 days. Using company 's group insurance. Excess claim under PMM2 without original bills. Claim is super easy and fast. That's why I trusted Prudential a lot and still keeping the old medic card.

At that time I realised medical card is the utmost important. So I sign up GE SM200 which covers until age 80 with high lifetime limit.

Under GE SM200, if R&B exceeded Rm200, the patient has to pay whooping 20% coinsurance for total bill.

20% up to a maximum of RM3000, You may claim this co-insurance under your PMM3.

Use SM200 first then claim the remaining under PMM3.

I signup GE policy in Nov 2010 with SM200. In my policy contract, the 20% co-insurance does not come with Rm3000 capped. If the T&C or benefit has changed, does it apply to my old policy too?

I read somewhere in lowyat forum, there's a Zurich insurance agent said the 20% coinsurance is actually a penalty. So cannot transfer to a higher card (another insurer). Can Prudential agent confirm about this? I'm holding PMM2 300 medic card.

from the previous post i guess he/she is refering to if huge medical claim for example 100K;
medical card 1 covers only RM75K, so the balance can be claimable under medical card 2 (different insurer)
*do take note only 1 medical card can be use per admition whereby meaning the balance RM25k is reimbursement basis.  thumbup.gif

Yes, your medical card does come with RM3000 capping. nod.gif

All the changes made will take effect for previous policy as well.

Glad to hear that. In that case it is still worthwhile to keep the GE SM200 card since the charges is so low thumbup.gif

For medical bills/expenses, ONLY ORIGINAL medical REPORT can be submitted for claims..

Medical Report thru Certified TRUE COPY by lawyer/Doctor/Hospital is NOT ACCEPTED .. I challenges any insurance agents here on this
if they can claim using true certified copy.. For medical bills/expenses matter.

Call up the insurance companies and you will be SURPRISED to know the tedious/very Mafan procedures/process when come to claim..
*
Not really. I'm not sure about other medical cards. But with Prudential medical card... no worries.

I was admitted to GMC Penang in 2010 for surgery. Below are the documents I submitted to Prudential (reimbursement method):
1. Summary of Claims (letter) from other insurance company stating which is claimable and which is non-claimable (scanned copy -- as I do not have original copy)
2. Certified true copy of medical bills by GMC Penang.
3. Photostat copy of medical report (hospital said they cannot certified true copy for medical report)

I got my cheque 2 weeks after submissions thumbup.gif
The only thing which is not claimable is RM10 of registration fee tongue.gif

I have another new medical card which is Great Eastern (SM200). But I'm a bit worry about this card.
My friend admitted to GMC Penang 2 years ago using his GE medical card (SM200) due to food poisoning, he has to bear the injection (to relief the pain) cost (RM100 - RM200). Not all medical expenses are claimable. sweat.gif
Another friend of mine was admitted to GMC Penang (for 2 days) using standalone GE medical card due to complication after stung by bees. GE does not allow doctor to use any medical equipment for my friend's case. sad.gif

I believe not all insurance companies are same. So it is better for you to clarify with your insurer.

Hi ExpZero,

Thanks for sharing "SmartMedic_PWU_20130617.final.pdf".
Glad to know GE has revamped the medical plans. The best thing is new benefits also apply to old policy holder without any charges.

Hope to see further improvement.
Please keep us updated. Thank you notworthy.gif
