Awakened_Angel, sadly a lot of insurances staff/agents dont want to share the terms and conditions unless you really insist. they have to give it to you prior to signing though - if they refuse try to complain with their complaints unit / BNM. you will be given and explained the terms and conditons swiftly thereafter the thing with insurance is this: they insure average risk. once your risk already materialised its not possible to insure you at average risk rate hence the excliusion. it wont be fair for the rest of the insured to insure a sure risk at less. they are not in the business of wasing money. its harsh but that's the way it is. what we need in malaysia is a mandatory health coverage so that everyone has a (basic) cover from birth onwards. additonal should be bought by those who can afford to do so (i.e. privat cover vs. basic goverment cover). but wait... we sort of have this currently (to some extend) with government clinic and subsidised basic health care. if its not good enough, chip out the extra money (or buy the private insurance). all we need is to put basic cover on top covering the expenditures at government clinics/hospitals and there we are. basic universal healthcare + private cover for the ones who want afford it. but basic cover should be mandatory then (i.e. no way to opt out of paying for that).

Awakened_Angel,
i believe what you refer to is the payment made to you if you are confined to a government hospital. that has nothing to do with the payments - a good insurance will pay all medical costs up to annual limit and subject to reasonable and customary charges. and it is very cost efficient. for general insurance you only pay a couple of hundred RM per year and get well above 100k annual cover.

amalthea, i dont know how many do this. i am doing it for my family for years now. and i have a lot of friends who do the same. MSIG used to be fussy with giving discount (but all accept walk ins!) but now they also give full agent comission as discount. only thing: if got claim you'll have to talk to them. but thats no problem - their claims ppl are nice and help you through. did a few claims before, never any major issues (again MSIG was very fussy in the beginning but it was a huge claim too). MCIS was especially curteous and they ended up paying more than what i would have asked for after their adjuster visited and upped my claims now about that i dont complain. personally i dont feel/see the need for an agent if i know what i want to get and i can save at the same time

no need to walk-in every year. you might have to "ask" for the discount if its not given automatically since you're an existing customer who apparently is paying full. MSIG started last year to extend the agent comission to us without (!) asking - during the past 10 years they have always refused to give the discount but then started to do so by themself. the other insurances i ask first time around, normally the renewal notice already has the discount taken into account. if not, can always email / call them. never been an issue in the past.

redruby,
are you suggesting that PRU gurantees cover regardless of the situation for the duration specified upon signing even in the event that PRU decides to no longer offer H&S plans to the general public? this would the first time _ever_ i come across a plan that cant be canceled under any circumstances while i pay my premium and dont commit fraud. i was of the opinion every single plan has the portfolio clause in malaysia. can you double confirm this?
even for international plans i have not come across such a generous clause before.

MNet,
simple and very efficient solution is this: add a top up with AXA. also note the 60k limit only applies to OUTpatetient treatments. hospitalisation to cancer (any cancer!) is covered. with a good additional cover you should be fine.

i was under the assumption you know. any (necessary) treatment involving a confinement of at least a day to a hospital is covered. this includes take home drugs for 14 days with axa. any treatment not involving a confinement or involving an outpatient visit is not covered beyond the 60k lifetime limit.
if you add a top-up policy to account for that you can create substantial coverage even for cancer and dialysis.

ResQ,
at your budget you *should* decide whats most important and buy a decent cover from a standalone. 50 bucks per months buys you zilch with an ILP. might as well not bother to have any cover then. 600 RM p.a. however can buy you a decent medical cover and if you're not fussy about the annual limit you'll enough to add a basic PA too.

maggi,
actually not rocket science. 1M cover for example: MCIS supreme PA. go direct get 25% off and you pay 800+ p.a. only. same for other insurers.
