We had a midfield injury crisis and Kallstrom is a full international, has a wealth of experience in the CL with Lyon (winning League titles as well mind you) and used to be one of Sweden's brightest midfield talents.

We needed reinforcements in CM and with no one available or Wenger simply refused to spend on anyone is anyone's guess but we needed a CM at the time.

It was hardly a mystery as we all knew a midfield signing was coming, it was just a matter of who.

Surprising it was Kallstrom on loan as there was virtually nothing until he posed with an Arsenal jersey on the dot com but mysterious? nah.

I would term mysterious as in signings like Bebe, Amaury Bischoff and as some people has mentioned PCY. These signings served absolutely no purpose and we could've done without signing them at all. Signings that really makes you wonder, sign them for what in the first place?

Kallstrom was signed a purpose and he served his purpose well, reinforcing our midfield with depth. Even played a huge part in our road to winning the FA Cup.

How the hack we survived all those years with top 4 finish every season is even more mysterious.
