I use avira & avast. So far no issues.
OOT a bit, I wonder why people choose windows defender (or whatever it's called), I read at various websites that it usually scores low (or even very low). PcMag even give it zero star.
I used to rely on it, too. Until I got infected with something and had to do a full system restore (it was a win 7 laptop). After that, it was anything but win defender for me.
Quote from Tom's guide : Yes, Windows Defender comes with Windows 8, but that doesn't mean you should use it if you have other options. Defender has the lowest performance impact of any of the five free products we reviewed, but its extremely subpar malware-detection rate and its lack of extra features means that no one should be relying on it for PC protection.
Quote from pcmag This article reports only on free antivirus products that rated at least 3 stars in our reviews; most of them did even better. Among those that didn't make the cut is Microsoft Security Essentials / Windows Defender. Five of the independent labs I follow do include Microsoft in testing, but most use it as a baseline. If a product can't do better than the baseline, it's got real problems. My aggregate lab score for Microsoft comes to zero stars.

QUOTE(Floria Scarlet @ Nov 3 2015, 11:34 PM) Haha, it's normal for antiviruses to do a false-positive The thing why I like Windows Defender is up until now it never do false-positive detection. Good job Microsoft I used Kaspersky for a year though, it's good, but requires better specs coz it eats lot of resources. owh..i see..but pcmag stated the cons when use window defender is so-so phishing protection (supplied by Internet Explorer),one of the cons.maybe next year i'll try use window defender since it's free

Yesterday, I was thinking of getting Kaspersky, but the seller kept bashing it saying that it's overpriced and she kept recommend me to get Trend Micro for cheaper price and it's Internet Security as well. So far so good.
But I hope I'm not the only one here using Trend Micro.

Hi! I think you should try each products for one month. Maybe after couple of months(may take more than 2 or 3 years if you wish to try every products, more than 50 AV products included free version and paid version), later you will know which AV or Internet security suites your requirements. Of course, you can listen to your friends advice, later you should choose one try for a month, satisfy your requirements, then use paid version. Purchase a genuine software, support the AV vendor who protect your PC. By the way, just let you know we are an authorized software reseller. If you interested, please visit us.

If U are careful with every thing u click and download, windows defender is absolutely sufficient, the reason is scores very low on most reviews is because IT IS the benchmark for AV, anything that scores even lower is pure crap. Like others that stated here, me and my uncle survived with windows defender for at least 4 years with no virus whatsoever. Until I stated uhem acquiring games the "popular" way.

If you do not wander off to 'certain' website.
The chances of you getting infected by virus is relatively low. Please clear your cookies and history files from time to time. Do get pop-up / add blocker that will reduce virus infection tremendously.
And yeah, I use AVG just for the sake of 'protection'.

Used to rely on anti-viruses, now using none.
No worries on bogging down system resources. The best security is still from your own consciences.
