I've got this video file in DV VIDEO DECORDER format avi. I used adobe premier and windows movie maker but it refused to import the files. error is :
The file C:\wed.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

what i did was; i used winavi convert program to convert the file into wmw but the output was video and no sound.so i used virtualdub to extract the wav file.It worked.and all those files can be played on windows media player however the wav file cannot be import into the video editing software.im gone bonkers about it...anyone got any suggestion to slove the problem?

thanks... notworthy.gif

Its possible you dont have the codec for the DV file. As i recall DV files have 2 versions of avi files. One is more popular that the other.

I usually get all my info from videohelp.com , because they do have a tools section with live links.

Find for panasonic DV codec, i beleive it is free for distribution.

Look under tools then codecs, its there.

How did you get the video in to you system in the first place? If you recorded it through a firewire card or USB, then it should be recognised by most common softwares like Premiere, Windows Movie Maker, Ulead Video Studio, Pinnacle.....

If through other means then you would surely need the codes that works with captured file.

Try capturing through the software that you have.
