I'm new smile.gif to Malaysia (who would have thought it!? rclxms.gif ) and I'm wondering if the use of an IPad on stage for set lists and Music Charts is common here? I've seen "name" bands cool2.gif here with them, but what does the average local musician use? Do you need it? How do you do it? What apps/software do you use? How does it work out? Where do you display it? rclxub.gif

Thanks

I wouldn't say its widespread, but I've seen performers and bands use it for live performances with apps like Ableton Live and Moog. Have also seen a really slick terror merror setup at a kampung venue where the soundman mixes the entire set on an iPad (some kinda line 6 based platform), but those guys were a touring band from Thailand.

That's the sort of thing I've seen as well. Makes me wonder if it saves hassle or creates hassle smile.gif

90% of musicians, solo acts, duets, trios etc working the live circuit do not use the iPad. Of course the figure 90% refers to the acts I have seen. The iPad is NOT used. Instead they make use of a notebook, laptop or netbook. And 90% of these acts do not use Ableton Live. The piece of software they use "saves hassle instead of creating hassle".

I wonder how they do it on a laptop? Do you use MS Word and something to turn the pages? or is it restricted to using one page at a time? doh.gif Is there a program that will automate it for musos?

i thought its common to have iPads on stage for sessionists?
definitely common in church settings too for songsheets, easy to just click and share with all on the spot if there are any changes live. Also some use it to control monitor mixes. Sounds fancy but its actually relatively simple.
For songsheets usually pdf, just swipe left/right as if to turn the pages. It's more of a backup plan as I think most musicians do memorise the parts.

I do have my iPad with me... not really for the purpose of using it live but long boring soundchecks i'd be reading my magazines / fb etc. Haha
