Hi, just wondering if is it okay for us to email authors to ask for a copy of a particular publication that you are interested in, if your university doesn't subscribe to that publication? I mean will it be considered bad manners / frowned upon / illegal?

I read the previous work from an author (open access) and would like to read the follow up work but unfortunately the follow up work publication is not subscribed by my university.
Alternatively, how do you guys go about obtaining publications that your university do not have access to?
Thanks.

Of course its okay to email to the authors.. I emailed to Author of the Theory of Interpersonal behaviour.. And he actually replied my email and he retired 18 years ago
+1!As long as you are polite, most people will give you their papers
