Oh... something interesting again.

Too bad just bought R2800. If not definitely tempted to try Solo 6c given the price just RM7xx.

We are flying in samples from Microlab and should receive them next week.

I was intrigued by this manufacturer, and so I had a look at their website.
One that really caught my eye is the FC50. A 2.1 with open baffle satellites.
That caught my interest because I have that idea as well. Interesting waveguide baffle though.

Those videos seem to show that they produce quite nice bass notes (6C and 7C).

Not sure if such small driver benefits from an open baffle. Probably you can DIY it also by removing current speaker and put a cup over it.

Now on a serious note, we'd get these in next week. Audition them. Then put them out for customers to demo.

I thought Altec Lansing has MX6021 for quite a long time. Good sounding? Personally I dont feel any difference when a 3" driver being naked or housed in a nice case.

Too lazy to move out my S2000 to accommodate it. The 6.5 woofer should offer more bass in comparison.

Like D1080 it has Treble, Bass, and Volume control. Remote is a bonus

I see. How suitable is it for Kpop? Recently been into Kpop and hence the reason to get R2800 for the bass.

That's not open baffle. They're inside cylinders.

Well actually you should hear a LOT of difference. Being completely naked or mounted on an insufficiently wide baffle will produce an unboxy sound but no usable output below 700-800 Hz (for a 6 inch wide baffle). In a properly sized enclosure a typical 3-inch should easily reach 120 Hz, or even slightly lower. They will sound warmer, but as with most plastic enclosures, at louder volumes the tend to excessively vibrate and since they have much larger surface area than the speaker cone they do tend to be quite audible. Not to mention reflections inside the enclosure that can reflect back to through the speaker cone, as well as standing waves.

I ditched the idea for an open baffle 2.1, simply because for a proper low crossover point to pass to a sub, I'd need at least an 8-inch woofer with the proper parametres mounted on a 10 inch baffle. I think that's where the DSP of the FC50 comes in to compensate for that.

Let's get back on topic. I am really interested in auditioning these speakers, particularly the towers.

Its a 2.1 and the crossover point would be quite high for most of them. 200Hz I guess?

By the way, in the same shipment we will also be bringing in Thonet and Vander. There is already a T&V distributor in Malaysia but we didn't see them doing much in terms of promoting community interest. Microlab OEMs some models for T&V, particularly this:



The SOLO9C is going to be over RM 1,000 but it's got a decent input!

If the sub stays at the centre and close to the satellites then yeah 200 is no problem. Most I see are in the 150-180 or lower though. 200 is still not low enough for most small open baffles. The FC50 uses a 4 inch coaxial driver, and a DSP too to get the mid bass up to par so the sub doesn't have to play too high.

The 9C is very similar to the Hoch. I guess the 9C were inspired by them? Similar specs but 9C has more power handling (or maybe just measured at different distortion limits) and bigger drivers, and is overall bigger.

I'm guessing that the Thonet & Vander are ging to be more expensive? With all that Aramid fibre woofers and denser than MDF polymer enclosure.

How much is 7c?

The price range for the whole series, starting from 5C will start from around RM 599. With a RM 100-150 price gap between each step up. Most importantly we need to see how the models fair in real life listening compared to products already in the market.

The Hoch looks to be based on the SOLO3C. The Hoch is rated 35W RMS/Channel, the 3C is rated 30W RMS/Channel. The 9C is a significantly more powerful speaker, and even the price is almost twice of the Hoch/3C.

We won't be bringing in the 3C though, we believe the 5C, 6C, 7C, 9C to be the sweet spot of the SOLO series. Probably most people would be buying the 5C or 6C

For price comparison you can refer to Taobao. Malaysia pricing will be slightly more than Taobao since there is freight cost involved, and also GST. Give or take RM 100-150 more than Taobao pricing.

Seem like Solo 7C may be a bargain buy compared to 6C.

Well that depends.
The 7c may have twice the woofer, but they seem to be tuned the same as the 6c (judging from the similar sensitivity figure and freq. range, and what seems to be identical woofers and proportionally enlarged enclosure volume). That means they have more headroom for bass volume, but not necessarily deeper. Seems it's made for far-field listening. They can sound different but they aren't built for a different sound (at least not purposely), but rather for different purposes.

Also, since the 6c has only one woofer per speaker, and made with less MDF as a result, it's a LOT lighter and can be placed on a stand if you already have one, and less imposing on a desktop along with your PC.

I wouldn't dismiss the 6c as being less of a bargain compared to the 7c, but rather they are made for people with more modest requirements, and most probably more restricted when it comes to space.

Price?

Purchased a 9c on April. Has been problematical since day one. Sent for warranty to cytric on august 3-4th. Never got my speaker till today. Time it has spent on my pc is less than it has spent on cytrics office. Serious wtf.
