Hi all,

As part of a healthy diet many would know that olive oil is one of the best ingredients, and one of the most researched as well.

However, a good quality bottle with traceable origins (to prevent adulteration and scams), is highly expensive and not viable.

The avocado fruit, if available locally, is a good alternative.

However, those that we usually see in the supermarkets are imported and also expensive.

Does anyone know where to get cheap avocados? Could either be planted in Malaysia or from our neighboring countries.

I have read on some blog post long ago that it could be cheap in East Malaysia, as it's commonly consumed among the Filipino community who get it from across the borders. Is this true?

What other alternatives do you recommend? How about palm oil, peanut, sesame oil, how to these weigh up based on the research?

Thanks in advance for replying.

Aren't those the expensive ones in the local supermarkets here?

NZ..around 1dollar each..if lucky, can get 2 for 1 dollar..

You mean go to NZ, or imported ones? Where do you usually get them?

I'm also looking for locally/regionally grown ones if possible, as those would most definitely be much cheaper.

Yes should be very cheap, found out that Indonesia is one of the largest producers of avocado.

How much did you purchase it for?

QUOTE(denieru @ Oct 19 2015, 02:33 PM)
usually bought mine from brunei. 1 dollar satu biji. sometimes large and nice, other time small small only

That's about RM3 - 4 per fruit, isn't that expensive and similar to the Australian ones in West Malaysia?

If you got land (around 2m x 2m) and enough patience, then probably you can grow your own.

Try coconut oil
*
It's kinda expensive, has a unique/stronger taste that not everyone can accept, and has quite high amounts of the controversial sat fats.
