Altel have quietly updated their prepaid plan with basic internet starting 12th April 2018. New mobile data plans are also available since then.

All new activations beginning 12th April 2018 are entitled to::
1. Preloaded 200MB data valid for 15 days
2. Preloaded RM3 credits and comes with 30 days validity
3. Basic internet at 64kbps (10GB FUP)

Features retained from previous plan are:
1. 10% bonus credit for RM30++ in a single topup
2. 365 days extended validity at RM28
3. Rates for all networks : 16 sen/minute calls, 5 sen/sms, 25 sen/mms

Previous Altel Real prepaid was as follows (for comparison):
QUOTE
All new Altel prepaid activations beginning 15 October 2015 will be placed under Real prepaid plan.

New features:
1. Preloaded with 300MB data valid for 15 days
2. 365 days extended validity applicable for first single reload of RM50++ within 30 days of activation. No additional topup is required to maintain this extended validity.

All existing features from previous plan are retained, ex:
1. Preloaded RM5 credit with 30 days validity
2. 10% bonus credit for RM30++ topup within 5 days of activation
3. 365 days extended validity at RM28
4. Rates for all networks : 16 sen/minute calls, 5 sen/sms, 25 sen/mms
5. 8 Friends-N-Family rates : 8 sen/minute calls, 2 sen/sms
6. Data PPU : 5 sen/MB block

Data package revisions begining 15 October 2015
1. RM 25 for 1GB with 90 days validity
2. RM 42 for 2GB with 90 days validity
Personal note:
This makes Altel prepaid the cheapest plan with basic internet with 1 year validity as of 05/05/2018

Yes, can mnp to Altel.

1. Find the nearest exclusive/vip dealer
2. Fill in mnp form and submit
3. Get altel 4G sim on the spot.
4. Zero charges for mnp and sim
5. Switching usually within 1-2 days.

As per my personal note:
- Altel remains lean with its freebies and offerings.

Of course everyone would be shouting happily if ever such free SIMs to be distributed globally from Valentine Corporation really happens ... biggrin.gif

The 25 for 1gb for 90 days is a promotional period, according to altel website. For how long?

It's been there for at least 5 months already. If this promotion is popular, they will make it forever

I am interested to giv it a try. Is MNP to Altel need to bring photocopy ic? Thought mnp procedure v sinple nowadays. Ur guidance above seems not require, & umobile can even allow to self do mnp via thier online system. But when i check with their CS, they requested to bring a photocopy of ic (ori to bring too of course)?

I think it was his wish, not actually available yet.
Although, 2 years ago I visited Indonesia and bought a 3 simcard with 1 year validity and 6 GB data (or was it 7,can't really remember) valid until finish. About a year ago when iyagain went there, I topup and bought another 365 days validity and found out my quota still carried forward (got like a bit more than 4GB left).
This is really ideal package for light user. Especially people like me who visit there occasionally only.

Ok, a quick check with the dealer here confirms IC photocopy required. That's their SOP right now for record keeping (and conforming to the law). Probably to prevent fraud and reduce churn.

Yes, U-mobile mnp is quite simple but that is based on the assumption that the MNP number was previously legally and correctly registered. It's still relatively easy to register a new prepaid with fake details (especially Umobile whereby many agents I approached never asked for IC).

BTW, FYI there is a telco that offers no time limit data balance. I'm doing a short write-up comparison and will post it later.
