I was with my friend (elfen) in PJ today, watched him COD the Deathadder from jy14, and then went back his house to test the mouse. Here's a short review after approximately 1-2 hour of usage, both in casual desktop usage and gaming:
Before starting out I can say that I'm pretty much a performance-based mice lover, and performance DOES matter to me a lot, as I consider myself a serious competitive CS player. And so far I have used many mice before, starting from the MX300, MX518, Logitech G3, Razer Diamondback, Copperhead, Krait, MSIE 1.1, the MSIE 3.0 (current), and lots of shit mice that doesn't worth mentioning (eg ms laser 6000). So for the casual consumers, my comments may not make sense to you or it probably doesnt matter to you biggrin.gif

Opening up the box, the Razer Deathadder feels very nice at the first touch, rubberized upper body coating like the ones on the previous Razer buttons, and a hard-plastic lower body. I immediately feel the need to use this delicate mouse VERY CAREFULLY, as the rubber coating feels like it might tear or damage by the smallest means of damage. The shape of it is almost identical to the MSIE 3.0, just a teeny weeny bit shorter in comparison. The two left and right clicks aren't as soft and easily clickable like the Copperhead, but it's close. Easily clickable buttons actually present a problem to me sometimes as when I flick my mouse quickly to aim at someone from the side, I MIGHT accidentally click the right click and I start to install the silencer on my M4, and die (in game of course). However, the two buttons at the side are REALLY solid and clicking it feels so good. Comparing the side buttons, the MSIE 3.0 side buttons are really loose and doesn't feel as good, doesnt feel as clicky.

After installation, I loaded up the driver software and well, it was the usual Razer-like interface, so I won't go on about it too much. The DPI offered is a bit weird though, instead of the usual 400-800-1600, it gives 450-900-1800. High DPI doesnt appeal to me at all. I use 400dpi for gaming tongue.gif just a note.

Starting up CS 1.6, I tried flicks in game and deathmatches to get a feel for the mouse. The mouse was used on an Everglide DKT pad surface. This is where the magic comes in. FYI I use a VERY low sensitivity in CS, 400dpi/windows sens default 6/sensitivity 1.15. That means I have to do two full flicks across my QCK+ mousepad (approx 40cm wide) for a full 180 degree turn to frag the ones shooting behind me. To do that I have to flick the mouse at a very high speed, and this is where most mice fail me. Even with my current mouse MSIE 3.0 clocked to 500hz polling rate, it suffers from heavy negative acceleration and the crosshair ending up pointing only a bit away from the original position. The Copperhead CANNOT perform this at all. When I do a full 180 duo-flick, it skips and looks at the sky or the ground, or doesnt move at all. The far worst is the MS laser 6000, that doesn't work at all with my sensitivity - it just looks at random directions and moves around like it's crazy when I move my mouse, piece of crap. While using the Razer Deathadder, no matter how fast I try to flick it at insane speeds, it goes EXACTLY where I want it to be. I'm most impressed. I have always disliked Razer mice as they are so commercial about 2000dpi, 1000hz polling rate, always-on engine, etc etc but ending up the mouse being useless crap to me. But the Deathadder proved me wrong.

I won't give too much comments on the design, because design appeal is very subjective to one's perspective. The blue lights though, wasn't as bright as it is as in the commercial pics, but hey, it's Razer!

So much for the pros, here's the con: It still feels very delicate to me! I don't really dare to use it as freely as the mice I own because it feels like the rubber coating is soooo delicate...... Or maybe it's because it's my friend's unit, not mine. Lol.

Conclusion: I would recommend anyone who has used the MSIE 3.0 mouse before and liked the shape, and looking for a new mouse, GET THIS MOUSE. It's a steal at RM195. I really liked the MSIE 3.0, but the old engine as proved to be inferior when compared against the Deathadder. The egronomics are perfect, though. Best Razer mice award from me so far tongue.gif and could be considered almost the best mouse (not price-wise). And I'm a Razer hater. How much this mouse surprised me is impressive. Or maybe if you are just a casual gamer and didnt know wtf of 50% the stuff I mentioned about above, just go for the mouse you think it's the most beautiful/highest DPI/etc.

Oh, and I won't bother to spend my time writing this review if Razer released another piece of rubbish.

Thanks for reading - a lot of you guys need to know more about mice perfomance.
Note: I hope my review doesn't lower the sales of the Coppearhead and other mice a lot. Sorry jy14/ngbh, plz don't kill me.

A good review, but I'm getting worried about how fragile the rubber coating on the mouse it. Will it start peeling off or breaking apart in a few months after use?

Okay, sounds like some sound advise. I'll see how it goes with the rubber coating. Never used such a high end mouse before. I basically use the RM10-15 A4 ones without the scroll wheel tongue.gif Did almost everything well, cept it didn't last for more than 4-6 months at a time.

Wow...RM350++ headphone is useless? How did you test it for music?
*
I'm using a Phillips HP-1000 for all my music/gaming needs. Sounds fine enough for me but if you ask the music experts they'll give you a list of how it's not good enough. Hence, different opinions from different users.

refnulf how was the Mouse ....... death adder.. good??

Totally forgot about it, sorry. I've been using the mouse for a few days now and I have to say that it's quite possibly the best mouse I've ever used. It's extremely comfortable and the rubber coating is just amazing to the touch. I've been using the mouse for hours on end without much discomfort. The only thing I find a little funny is the plastic below it. It's a little sticky compared to the rubber coating above. To use this mouse, you have to make sure you have very clean hands, that you have a cloth handy to wipe off the smudges, etc. And for those who have sweaty hands, you might want to give this a miss because it'll spoil the rubber coating.

Regarding the rubber coating, it's nothing that will break apart, or fall off. It's coated on evenly, great to the touch, just keep anything sharp away from it. It attracts lint, and dust, etc so you'll have to clean it often. And of course, oil stains are very very noticeable.

All in all regarding the physical aspect of the mouse, it's 10/10 for me. The buttons on the side are easy to press and you can set them to basically anything you want. I haven't tried em in game, but I plan to soon. The mouse moves like a dream on the Everglide dkt pad. Hardly any effort needed to move it. I'll include some pictures later. The Razer mantis speed pad is exactly the same one as the Everglide dkt monstermat. Razer just prints their logo on it and their own packing (and a higher price). I got it because it's black. Can't stand the razer green, etc. Everglide has no control mat like the Razer mantis control mat.

Now, I'm using the 1.03 driver and the 1.04 firmware and I have negative acceleration. I've tested it 4-5 times and it's present. It's not too bad but it's there. And it continues tracking up to 5mm or so if I'm correct on the Everglide mat. Maybe a little lower. That doesn't affect me much though.

Other than that, everything is perfect. The scroll wheel works great, no problems with that. You can set the scroll to maximum making your job alot easier having to physically scroll less but getting the same effect. The look of the mouse is excellent, the pulsating razer logo is nice to have at night and it's generally a very nice mouse.

But they need to release a firmware to fix the problems with the acceleration. I'm a little suprised because most have complained about positive acceleration, but a few have been popping up with negative acceleration, such as my case. Lift off is a little different according to several uses. It's not too bad for me, but it doesn't affect me in any case.

All in all, I'm a satisfied buyer. I don't game much, but the games I do play will require a firmware update to fix this problem.

the only thing i don like for DA is the design.like so normal.but it will b great if thr a lights at side thr like other previous razer mouse
*
I've put the DA up close with the Krait, the CH and the DB and let me tell you. Nothing comes close to the DA. The pulsing Razer logo itself is way better than all the lights at the side. And the DA beside the Habu, no questions there. DA looks 100 times better.

I don't know, personal preference I guess. Take a look at the pictures I posted up, not too well taken. Dang orange curtains, but the DA is a gorgeous mouse.

The looks is personal, performance is another thing too.
You say it looks better for you doesn't mean it will looks better for the others though.

I was only talking about the looks. Performance wise, it'll be better once the firmware is released to fix the problems it has now.

the armadillo i'm not sure if its used to tidy up your desk.

for me, basically it gets irritating when i move the mouse and i can feel the friction from the cable, thats where the armadillo comes in.
the mouse now feels slightly 'lighter' cos very little friction, almost like wireless tho not there yet.

also very useful when you go LAN or competitions, cos you never know how big the table etc is gonna be, your cable could be falling over the table etc.
again the armadillo just fixes the cable in one position.
*
Hey man, what does the armadillo do again? Some sort of management system or just a weight?

No, I read the reviews. But it's a weight, and it locks the cable down. So you don't have to keep pulling the mouse wire up? Hmmmm, I do have a problem with always having to pull the mouse wire since it always drops down.

You'll probably spoil the mouse. You don't want scratches on your expensive mouse. Always use a mouse pad.
