I thought the Mako was supposed to eliminate that via the THX design?
*
I think THX is a just a certification of a level of quality. IIANM la
some say its a gimmick, but so far, among most of the THX certified speakers, most of them do perform pretty well, but some of them just aren't musical
i think it was the logitech z5500? i don't vaguely recall the model, but it was a logitech, it was pretty good sure, but lacked in some areas like staging and how it musically performed that wasn't really up to justify the price tag. but thats just me.

yes. made very huge difference especially when gaming (for me). have you tried to use sound card with ur home theater system? I believe if you compare side by side, you will hear the difference.
and THX is just a gimmick.  laugh.gif
*
no i haven't tried any sound cards better than Creative Sound Blaster live 5.1... but my current built in sound got DTS... i plug in a video out from my graphic card to my amp... and the sound coordination became better... hmm.gif but still wat so diff when using sound card...? and THX isn't a gimmick... it's an advance playback technology for sound coordination of volume and position... if u play my speakers on MOH:PA and compare wif u play Doom3... then u know wat THX really is... but when watching movie... u can try to get Creative X-Fi Platinum something wif watever Altec Lancing or watever PC speaker u have which won beat my sound positioning and volume accuracy... cuz THX certified Amps got built crossover circuits which enhances the delays and sound positions... brows.gif

Well... enough said bout THX... it's TMH's era now... sweat.gif
BTW... i believe movies requires more sound processing than games... unsure.gif

Ah crap............
Even more competition for the Mako:

http://home.businesswire.com/portal/site/h...news_view_popup

Now I REALLY don't know what to get!

Oh wait. It's a 5.1 system. I only have space for a 2.1.

Nevermind!

My room only has space for a 2.1 system, which is why I like the compact design of the Mako.

I have a 5.1 Home Theather system in my house too...... will probably build a custom HTPC for that as well......

I wrote to Razer guy asking for some Razer HTPC goodness....... wishful thinking lah!

'm no pro in this but as far as I know, distortion comes from several factors.
The source or the hardware.

It might be digital audio was not encoded well enough and thus there are distortions during playback.
or
It might also be the speakers not being able to handle such loud volumes
or
It soundcard is unable to cleanly output the signal to the speakers.

Well, correct me if I'm wrong.

Indeed, I was looking for new speakers last month, and I saw the Edifier C2.1, so I went for online reviews, and the HWM gave it a 8.5 and a silver award. So I thought its really good.
Almost placed an order for it, until my friend auditioned it and said its not that great, bass being lacking in power and mids being muddy.
I really didn't put much believe (My bad really T_T), until I went to audition myself. And he was right, word by word. Bass seriously weak, mids was moderately strong, but muddy, the highs don't really extend and was a little harsh and shrill.
Ugh. I'll never take HWM reviews seriously anymore.

@Blactrix
If the "Bringer of silent death" is really the dejavu inspired R200 from my dream, you better go get yourself a Gibson ZW custom Lol.
