Gonna get a Thermalright Ultra-120 for my S478, is it compatible??

going to get a thermalright ultra-120 soon using a ABIT IC7 (s478) mobo... is the cooler compatible to s478 board? is it a must to get the retention bracket?
any thermalright ultra-120 user with s478 board here?

it is a must to get retention bracket but not really worth to spend retention bracket + ultra 120 on a s478 rig IMO.

Err.. where are u getting your ultra-120? AFAIK its very hard to find that heatsink now, out of stock worldwide

y u get ultra 90 instead?coz i dont think necessary to put that HSF for a s478 ma?but then ur money.cant help u there coz i xthink i say anyone using u-120 on a s478

i m using a prescott (2.8E) so its very hot, thats y i wanna try using that... also that i might be getting a newer rig later...

yeah bro, think the future can carry over the ultra 120...neway i think u will need the retention module .... if not cant fit... neway it is hard to find one..very exp even if u do, so just sit back and wait for a while untill stocks are flowing again...

Utral 120 is good if possible since 2.8E indeed is hot ... but the retention kit would cost RM25 ....
that's under condition u can get one .... btw where is ur source for Utra 120 ???

ive mailed TR about using U120 on s478 but they say not recommended  jus get the retention module n it will work fine but wats wrong using U120 on s478..even its old platform some of us are obsessed with cooling

That's becasue old socket processor generally does not produce so much of heat to the extend need Utra 120 to cool it off...
of course there is exception such as Prescott series ... always above 40c up to 70c ...
anyhow there is no right and wrong .. cool it the way u want it .. as long as compatible loh ....

thanks for all reply... any idea where i can get the retention bracket from?? currently oc-ed my 2.8E to 3.2, full load around 72°c it can be oc-ed higher but due to the temp, and it will have thermal throttling even though its disabled in bios...

That is so true... If you have the money also don't have problem to use Phase Change cooling for you're prescott socket 478 processor...
