I used to teach at Yamaha, yes they charged royalty fees & admin fees.
During my time, beginner fees was RM120, deduct RM20 of admin fees and royalty. I was left with RM100. Then split according to percentage agreed. I got something higher than 50% cos i'm a diploma holder in piano performance.
If you are working for a music centre that have the capacity of students it will be fine. Otherwise, like many of my friends' experience, it's not quite a 'decent' job. Are you willing to teach if there is only 1 student available?
I can say it's pretty tough working as a freelance music tutor, but everything has its pro and cons, being in this line is not easy
I never knew that Yamaha splits the percentage because i see some teachers (not only piano) busy playing with the phone while the student is practising. The percentage, so i guess if it's a Masters holder, it should be like 70-80%?
