Yup. Cooler Master products make your notebook hotter. XD

Try some of the china made aluminium coolers. Try the ones that tilt the back of your notebook. smile.gif

errr.....IMHO, those Alu based products basically doesnt work.....it's just nice looking only....

Alu for this notebook cooling doesnt work because the ALu doesnt stay in contact with the base of the laptop....

you just need to airflow to cool the base of the laptop...

Try to address where the heat is from:
1. CPU
Open up, clean up the white goo, put some good thermal paste. Make sure the laptop's internal cooler fan is clean and working. Undervolt if you know what you are doing.

2. Hard disk
Can't do much about this. But avoid torrenting on your lappie la. I don't think notebook hard disks can take that much stress.

3. Battery
What the forummer said above is true. Running on AC without the battery attached will make the notebook run cooler. (charging battery generates heat. Plugged in with 100% battery still generate some heat somehow)

Btw, in addition to cooling options, those using Centrino can use NHC to undervolt. That helps ALOT.

the air intake for my laptop lies at the base of my laptop.
wont that suck in more dust into the pc? (like a vacuum cleaner? hehehe.

By the way does anyone have an acer aspire 5684wlmi?
my one seems to fry like an oven is that normal?
did they make it that way? half laptop half frying pan just in case u get hungry

Ditto.. using AS5 instead of the standard hastily applied white goo/silver sticker really helps. Bear in mind that lappies are mostly designed for ease of assembly so that underpaid factory workers can assemble them in the shortest time possible.

Also... check on the heatpipe's contact with the cpu plate. Try filling up the contact with AS5 unless you have the equipment to resolder the heatpipes lor.

This really depends on the lappy's cooling design. I see a lot of lappy's designed with only small intake vents which are great for passing EMI but bad for cooling.

I've been torrenting on my lappy for the past week and the HDD barely touch 40C. Most of the time at 36C. Set a bigger cache to avoid writing on the HDD too much. So it really depends on how the lappy is designed.

user posted image

ps: Component lifetime is a different story altogether. tongue.gif

Edit: Idling at 41C and HDD temp 36C.. torrenting for the past week.

I've measured the AC power draw using a Seasonic power angel...
Running idle without battery --> ~22W
Running idle while charging battery --> 55W
Running idle with battery 100% charged --> ~22W

Dude, that's normal.
I've opened tons of notebook @ laptop casing before, and always found that thick dust build up. laugh.gif

Tons of notebook shutdown by itself because of overheating. sweat.gif

Remember to only do this on those notebooks @ laptop that has finished its official warranty. smile.gif

I think the most important thing is not to block the cool air intake holes and the heatsink exhaust system. If possible try to lid up a bit the notebook to let the bottom part of the notebook to take more cool air cooling down.

Needed some suggestion here.

I am about to get a notebook cooler for my gf's notebook but i am not so sure about which to get.Saw plenty of them in the market, ranging from CM, Zalman, LL, and many more but which one is better.Budget would be RM150 - RM200 but of course, the lower the better....

Any recommendation on which to get?

bring ur lappie to a tire shop or workshop n use compressed air to gimme the fan a good blow... control the pressure though... u dun wan to ruin ur fan... a few seconds of blowing n follow by video head cleaner spray for a few quick burps... it should help to clean up lots of stuck debris in ur lappie...

* try at ur own risk... i did that to all my lappie n they survive though...

well for my old acey laptop which has passed its waranty, i have opened it, dismantled the heatsink and washed it and dried it and then lap it with some awesome emery paper, and hmm used mx1, works wonders, its a p4 and its idle at the moment is 41 degrees..smile.gif

About external coolers, why not get the zalman cooler, i have not tried it though coz i can reduce the temps via method above...

I think its wrong to generalise that acer laptops suck... its not the comp thats the main issue of malfunction but rather its the user himself/herself. I have an ACER travelmate 250 for 4 years now and it works perfectly fine only that its a single core cry.gif

That cheapo way does help a bit....

Agree that ACER notebook sux.. i own Acer 5560 given as a present on my birthday. The heat on this notebook is rediculous..it will hit 80-85C when im doing my video rendering and round 55-65 on normal useage. Build quality also soo plastiky. Also the fan intake n out take on right hand side..wtf? Bad enuff the laptop is warm now everytime i use external mouse my right hand get toast too!.. This is a great laptop for someone in siberia indeed. doh.gif

Btw have anyone open up an Acer laptopn and apply some AS-5 to the Heat Sink pipe?

my chapalang 3-fans steel notepad only able to cooldown hdd @ about 6 deg. C but no effect in CPU cooling.  afaik, other brand notepads also with the similar outcome sad.gif.  i suppose the cooler below will make a difference if it is clipped at exhaust nearby cpu heatsink, anyone bother to give it a try rolleyes.gif .

I agree with u..
normally the cooler pad doesn't help much.. unless got tools directly suck all the heat out from the lappy..
it will be more effective..

Where did you find this? If effective, RM45 is quite reasonable. Just hope its not Made in China. Hahaha!! thumbup.gif
