well... according to what i heard... there is no reason why to put another fan behind 360 fan... and if intercooler not fast enough to take out hot air, it became something like 'bottleneck' and thats what make hot air stuck at the back of 360... even from test result using nyko...  it  only took 3 days non stop usage and there u go... another 3ROD...

so i've been advised to use stand cooler instead... and turn on aircon when u playing 360... to minimize percentage of getting 3ROD...

Basically I agree and disagree. The reason the Nyko doesn't work is it taps into the Xbox 360's main power supply for power, so it actually impacts the voltage that goes into your 360.

USB-powered fans on the other hand take so little power but make it up by providing 1200-1500 RPM, which is actually enough to help suck out the hot air on the rear of the 360.

As for the aircond, well my friend in Australia has been advised to not use it with the 360 cause when you turn the aircond off the change in temperature might cause condensation inside your 360. Condensation = bad. However this may not be too accurate, since it's third party info.

But I also feel that at full 12v, the Nyko does a good job evacuating hot air. Consider this scenario, with a Nyko running on 5v. I can imagine that if the Nyko ran on 5v, there will be some bottlenecking. You know, when you restrict the outflow of a fan, it actually causes back pressure and pushes air backwards. Now, if the stock fans are pushing out hot air faster than the 5v Nyko is, it'll create some compression in the space between, and back pressure will be created, and fan efficiency severely reduced. The result is overheating.

Now, if the Nyko fans are running fast enough to create reduced pressure in between it and the stock fans, obviously more hot air from the xbox will be evacuated.

Roland, I bow to your fan-leetness!

As mentioned before elsewhere, I am experimenting with a laptop cooler to provide fresh air INTO the 360 thru the vents under the console. Tonight I will try using the scientific apparatus you have mentioned to test if there IS any cool air coming out of the 360 without it being turned on.

Thanks for the info!

As for the laptop cooler, any brand will do - just look at the pics posted previously.

acougan: Interesting idea. I DO find that the vents under the 360 (when placed horizontally) do allow the power of the three laptop cooler fans to enter the 360 and work their stuff. My AV rack used to be quite hot if I lifted up the 360 after some gaming.

Now it's just a little warm. In the next few days I'm getting a 5000 RPM cooler fan that's been modified to fit a regular power socket and will blast that into the right grill.

Hope it works!

Exactly what I plan to do with the 5000RPM fan.

Since they plug into a regular power socket I'm gonna purchase one this weekend and then see how it goes blowing into the side vents. Maybe then I can reclaim back my table fan!

Read the article my friend -

At one point, Mika Salo turns to me and asks, "Do you guys have (the circuit) Long Beach in this game? I've never driven it before and I need to learn it for the next race." Although I had to explain that Forza Motorsport 2 was not a dedicated ALMS game, it felt great to have Mika Salo tell you that Forza Motorsport 2 and the triple-screen setup is something he would purchase to practice for races

Don't worry about those rear fans. I use them myself. They DO help pulling out air out of the 360 rear, and since it's USB it's all good.

Very difficult to find these days. More shops are selling the vertical fans.
