I have this annoying login problem on Win10. I don't know how or why I get this. When I upgrade from Win8.1, the first time I login was my online microsoft account. No problem... key in password and it restored back everything nicely. Then lately, when I switch on pc, another login would appear, first pic. But this is no longer my online account and I don't have the password. I must click somewhere else, then I get to the second screen, second pic. Here I see 2 login options on bottom left corner. The top option is my online login and I have the password. The bottom one which I don't know what it is, how it appear, is now my default login. The only thing I did was going in to netplwiz and disable requirement to login with password. I checked settings, no extra acc created, no local acc created... where else to check? Thank you in advance. Attached thumbnail(s)

QUOTE(horns @ Oct 12 2015, 11:11 AM) log on your primary account, and run administrative command prompt (win+x, select command prompt (admin) ) and do the following: 1. disable the user - net user username /active:no 2. delete the user - net user username /delete i'm not really sure how you got that second account. boy, that almost locked me out of my pc. after i did the above, still hv 2 account, but my password don't work anymore. used the reset option appearing on the screen also no use. I set my password from pass1 to pass2, using phone but still cannot access. Then i insert setup disc and restore to earlier restore point, it says restore fail, but now my old password, pass1, works. However, immediately after login, OneDrive asked me login credentials. I put in my email, pass1 failed, and now pass2 works. Win10 sucks. This post has been edited by n8210: Oct 12 2015, 11:59 PM

QUOTE(horns @ Oct 13 2015, 12:09 AM) .. how come? you use it to disable/delete the other account, it shouldn't affect your primary account. i think the problem started after you reset your password, no? to prevent your future headache, it's better to have a local account just in case. What a night... after numerous attempts, I have finally decided to reset everything back to normal, deleting all apps and user files, start again. Then back to single online working account. If I reset and keep everything, the "dual" login options continues to exist. This morning, I continued to work on my "fresh" Win10 and finally I managed to recreate the problem. How? Because I went and change the computer name and workgroup. Its the computer name. During installation time, it gave me a name I don't like, something like "DESKTOP-GH386TH".. So I went ahead and change it to something I can recognize and after the reboot, the problem came back... So how do I solve this? First: remove the "second/other" login Secondly: change my computer name without recreating this issue Thanks a lot man..

Not sure yet.. luckily I had a picture of what was the default computer the setup gave me, and I key in the same stupid name, and the second/other login disappear. Using netplwiz, I can automatically login to windows without needing to type my password.
But like google, now MS does not allow recycling of used password. So shit.. now hv to remember a new password for my MS account.
So on to searching for clues on how to change my pc name without getting into the same trouble again.

QUOTE(horns @ Oct 13 2015, 12:26 PM) oh. yeah i think that's how the trend in terms of security is going. however i think the way they enforce security things a bit too much sometimes. (because at the same time they try to link up all other persons in my contact list, i assume that they wanna establish something else, besides the superficial user experience and convenience) that's why i use another phone number for all these. back to the topic, i really think it's good to have local accounts as backup. it's way easier for do things independently. Can I have a local account login but still have auto backup and sync for my One Drive account?

this is getting frustrating.. i tried creating a local account to sign in, but failed. this is what happened:
- created local account LOC1, password Pass1 - reboot, cannot auto login to local account, reason: my username is LOC1, but Win10 help me login as another username, LOC2 - i need to delete the on screen LOC2, type in the correct LOC1, input password, then i can enter/login - meanwhile, my online account login also appear at the bottom left corner.. so once more, 2 login options at the bottom left, but the default login keeps appearing with the wrong username, LOC2.. why?
And I cannot delete this local account. Even if I go into setting and select online account to login, from now on this second login option keeps appearing as the default, and with the wrong username, LOC2.. I cannot auto login.
Must either: - manual go change the local account username back to LOC1, type password, OR - select online account, and key in password
