Testing and Conclusion
This 2.1 speaker system is one of the best products that Edifier has produced. When performing an audition rotation with the Edifier C3X and Edifier R2730DB, C3X ticks all the check-boxes of the minimum requirements of a good speaker. It produces crystal clear sound when playing vocal, instruments and techno, trance. All the minor details can be easily heard and not muddied by the mid or bass. Regarding the subwoofer, it can produce deep punchy bass and also capable of performing thunderous/roaring sound effects. The other thing I like about this speaker is how amazing that it can deliver the same amount of sound quality and loudness from a twin small satellites using less power. The power drawn measured through my power meter indicates it consumes approximately 4~6W but is capable of filling the entire small room with music.
Pros
1. Uses approximately half power consumption of Edifier R2730DB but delivers the same amount of loudness and quality.
2. Does not generate much heat.
3. Not very heavy compared to Edifier S series 2.1 speaker system.
4. Has a radio functionality to listen to your favorite local radio stations.
5. Can listen music via USB if it's not connected to an audio streaming device.
6. Provides an output audio jack to plug your headphones to the external amplifier.
Cons
1. Requires more room space to fit in a subwoofer and external amplifier.
2. A little more hassle to install 2.1 speaker system since there is an external amplifier.
Expectations
If Edifier were to come up with another new improvement on C3X, I would like to see the USB flash drive and SD Card input are relocated to the front of the external amplifier for easier access. In addition, a compact external amplifier will make it convenient to place on crowded desk that may have multiple widescreen monitors alongside with satellite speakers and PC peripherals (mouse, keyboard).
Disclosure: The review sample was provided by Inter-Asia Edifier – if you’re looking for this speaker, you know where to find them.
