I know its an old post but just want to update the location of MAP sensor for Persona 1.6 IAFM as nobody seemed to be able to supply the info.
Dirty vs Clean MAP sensor: Just use a throttle body spray cleaner to clean the MAP sensor. The degreaser liquid if fast drying. Let the cleaned MAP sensor to dry itself before re-installing. This post has been edited by hart932: Jul 3 2017, 01:58 PM |

QUOTE(Vervain @ Aug 27 2017, 12:21 AM) What is a map sensor and what does it do?The MAP sensor converts engine vacuum/manifold pressure to an electrical signal so the computer knows how much load the engine is under. This data is the basis for fuel delivery and timing control. |

I have learned something new today. The MAP sensor converts engine vacuum/manifold pressure to an electrical signal so the computer knows how much load the engine is under. Do use proper cleaner to clean the sensor else will damage the sensitive parts of the sensor

I went to Proton SC to service car, ask them to clean this. They say, if no problem, better don't touch this part, else more headache!

Just for info sharing.
MAF and MAP are 2 different types of sensors. MAF measures volume of air entering the engine (usually located at the airbox before the throttle body). MAP measures the Manifold Pressure (usually located past the throttle body). Either one of the above (with open loop feedback from the O2 sensor and TPS) is used for the ECU to calculate effective fuel delivery. Most cars now have changed from MAF to MAP sensors since the late 90s. |

QUOTE(dares @ Oct 23 2017, 11:26 AM) ShhsssshQUOTE(jaycee1 @ Oct 23 2017, 11:36 AM) Just for info sharing. They can run either one or both at the same time. Readings are measured all the time regardless of open or close loop from the o2 sensor. Btw, open loop means it's disregarding reading from o2 sensor. Particularly during cold starts or high rpm. Modern cars still uses MAF sensors. They provide accurate volume of air by measuring velocity of air inbound. However if there's leak at the intake interval it causes a huge problem as the measurement is off by a large scale. Map sensors however do not suffer such defects as it's installed at the intake manifold. Any leaks can be detected and ecu can compensate the changes. Downside is the accuracy is not as good as MAF. It relies on atmospheric pressure to estimate the amount of air being suck in. For engines with both system, they are either turbo charged or build for refinement and accuracy. N.A. wise, both MAF and MAP works in tandem to provide accurate volume of air being breath in.MAF and MAP are 2 different types of sensors.
