DSD very hot on head fi/home hi fi audiophile sections, however for ICE, maybe people still absorbed on their CDs kot sweat.gif

=edit=
i mean, look and how long it took/who bothered with FLAC support? DSD is basically a step above FLAC.

i know you will be the first who reply......

a hu with flac support will always support wav format and there's a big difference between flac and wav's sound.....so a lot of manufacture dun even bother to support flac.

now with dsd, sony came out the first 1 which they are already put in effort in portable unit....Their extend to car audio is just like pioneer DJ series built into car audio in some player with mixtrax.

so whether this is a good or bad, still need to test the unit first.....

to each his own for flac vs wav la.
DSD is merely another form of lossless media such as wav or even flac (again, it's lossless. )
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLAC

but then people would always argue that cd is the purest when reality it's merely another form of digital data manipulation (in cd's case, storage) of 0's and 1's laugh.gif

i would assume that the headfi (to an extent, home hifi) community are more willing to accept FLAC (and now DSD) maybe because the vast majority of them are IT oriented/background and they should be able to read up/understand/differentiate between other codecs/cd/wav etc.

some side note/FYI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_Stream_Digital
DSD is NOT new, and in a way, it is a failure from sony, which they are now reviving the format
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Audio_CD
these guys are not new either, can look up cdjapan for some SACD prices/samples wink.gif

google showed up a short discussion on headfi

because of IT oriented, they think they can make something sounds like original by their hand....but instead, it's totally diff story...

cd is a form of digital media with the purpose of digitize recording...The big file are used to minimize the loss of details....

not sure if you know about this..but don forget i am a system analyst graduated....

the lesser file size, the lesser detail. Garbage in, Garbage out.

There's no way you can restore a clipped signal. Let's say if you have a 600x400 video and put it in a hd tv, how it looks? can the tv smoothen the images to 90% above? NO !

that one you go find Xiph.Org Foundation, Josh Coalson, Erik de Castro Lopo, sony, philips lol

people ady said lossless, means no clip.
means recorded 1080 from camera, put on 1080 tv.

but many don't believe anyways so that's that lol.

and if that trend remains, DSD will be just as dead as flac on car unless sony marketing team works out something to persuade people otherwise.

fyi, they define lossless as a consideration on most people do not have a system that can differentiate or do not even know how to differentiate it...if keep on the lossless = really no loss, then i bet you need a better system or better listening to hear the difference. a word cant change the fact smile.gif

got system that can differentiate it/able to differentiate it has little to do with the lossless definition what.

that's why i say if people don't embrace/believe it, then it's (DSD) going to sink lo.

its like saying you have a 1080/ori bluray, but your tv only 20" (that can still play 1080 btw) without having a 80" or something projector so you can see every fine details (like the pores on the girl's face) that means the 1080/ori bluray = shit because you cant tell the difference on your 20" low end tv (even if it can still play 1080 anyways).

Flac / WAV / DSD whatever is going to be new... digital media... for me personally... Disk space plays the most important role... Best quality with the less space, period...

doesnt matter how much details there possibly is... i wont spend a lot more money for just a ie. extra definition of attack and decay sound of instruments...

because in the end, i would rather be "toying with the sound system than the sound system is toying me"

as many would find out after long enough... the "red/black 20cent per meter cable" plays the best music, to be enjoyed...
and the NICAM TV with the mono speaker generates the closes to reality human voice...

https://www.plusmusic-us.com/pmus/index.php...mic-vs-sampling

An alternate conversion process developed by Sony and Philips called Direct Stream Digital or DSD. The Super Audio CD (SACD) is based on DSD and unlike pulse code modulation (PCM) technology used commonly in pro audio applications and normal CD recordings, DSD technology is based on a one-bit ‘sigma-delta’ converter that produces a stream of pulses. The amplitude of the analog waveform is represented by the density of pulses, and is called Pulse Density Modulation. The resulting digital bit stream is encoded at enormous 2,822,400 samples per second! (2.8224MHz)

good graph!

the irony of this is why there are no (correct me if i'm wrong, as i am quite shallow in this after all) SACD supported Head units besides Sony?!

and are SACD/DSD really better than CD? i mean, the revered CD that everyone deems 'the best'? tongue.gif

What make it little to do if you can differentiate the sound while listening? So ur system cant differentiate all these good and bad and you tell others using a better source is shit? As i said, lossless is not equal to no loss. It's only "less loss" than some other format.

Well i am asking why there's no one who fancy on this because there's a lot of believer in "compression technology" and "better sound" technology....then come out with something funny...I believe u thinking i am a supporter for DSD?

btw i dunno why u dun understand why tv got big and small....a big tv is for a viewing distance that are further away from a smaller tv. The resolution and detail will be the same if you are sitting at the designated distance...find a better example pls..

Unless there's a different audiophile English than the uh, regular English, I believe, as quote :

having or involving no dissipation of electrical or electromagnetic energy.
COMPUTING
of or relating to data compression without loss of information.

I don't know what you believed /believe in.
You asked why no one fancy dsd, I answered accordingly as dsd is another form of codec, such as FLAC.

If TV is a bad analogy I apologize for that as I tend to not think too much since my job has been taxing me on that cry.gif

as i said earlier, lossless defined by "some" are used to express the compression are "less loss" than other compression. There's too much of these in the IT world..it the loss are < than xx%, they considered it as lossless for "audio" file.

Maybe make it an example, USB high speed and USB full speed...what difference? and how to define high speed, and full speed?

Because there's so much confusion in the IT world's "definition", people start to think that the sound will be the same as defined as lossless and lossy....

Be in the real world, my edifier rm2xx speaker already can differentiate betweet flac, mp3, wma, wav, ape and so on. Of course i can buy a bigger or more expensive brand but that's not the purpose if the "better" one are not going to let me hear what is true...it's a matter of whether you want a system that perform good enuff to differentiate, or just blend all together and treat all the same.
