Below is my current fund allocation and I'm planning to embark on my first rebalancing act. With the hype about the [rate] hike, suggestions please? notworthy.gif

Kenanga Growth - 29%
Eastspring MY Focus - 25%
Ponzi 2.0 - 31%
Titanic - 15%

Thanks.

Thanks yklooi.

Going by those recommendations, I should move some (but how much?) to bonds.

investors must also determine their geographical exposure to various regions, such as the US, Europe, Japan, Asia ex Japan, as well as global emerging markets

Checked. Then again, any particular region to be heavy on?

Thanks so much, fellas. I'll definitely look into what you've posted. I don't have any plans for the invested money, yet. Not for another 5 years but I do need them to grow at 8-10% each year if possible.

I have about 500 bucks put aside each month as spare and didn't pay much attention to bond funds. I think it was xuzen or pink spider who said bonds reduces volatility or something along that line but I don't really understand how; given my assumption that monthly DCA practice and lack of active "trading" should smoothen things out.

It's been a good experience giving FSM and DIY UT a go.

xuzen,

Regarding the post on current fund returns lying 1SD below the 3 year mean and by statistical probability / logic will return to [or near] the mean, would you provide any caveat if I were to depend on this alone to decide on where to dump unused cash?

1) My caveat is that don't dump everything in.

2) It is still risky. You can put in a little, something you can expect to lose as a trial to test your own psychology / risk appetite.

3) The above is but a small part of the whole Modern portfolio theory thingy. There are many parameters to consider behind the calculation of  Algozen™: Xuzen's asset allocation algorithm.

Haiyo... thought end year portfolio can be up a little, mana tahu everyday see market down and down saja!

I know how that feels. Some in the red and some black ones giving returns around 3-4% after a year wanna switch out also reluctant (in my mind telling me to hold out for a bit more).

Nice thumbup.gif Downloaded. I think it was Master Wong here who said VCA helps to remove the emotional component and just top up what and where it is needed. So I applied that to rebalancing. Fuh... Reducing exposure in Malaysia and taking cues from you all on where the money will be in the near future

yeah.. i read that too..

the line that says

"You may buy a unit trust via the Cash Management Fund with ease, as long as there is sufficient holdings in your Cash Management Fund. You may simply specify the ‘Cash Management Fund’ as the payment method during the buy process. The invested amount will be deducted from your Cash Management Fund holdings, and it will be used to buy a unit trust immediately as long as the buy order is placed before 3pm on a business day."
and
"You may place an inter-switch order to switch your Cash Management Fund to another unit trust without any lag time. The sales proceeds of your Cash Management Fund sell order, after deducting the prevailing FSM sales charge, will be used to buy into the fund which you have chosen to switch-buy, without any lag time. This transaction is equivalent to placing a buy order using the Cash Management Fund."
hmm.gif  just so that i got it correct... term 1, used when i click on Buy, then i'm presented with an option to use CMF  and term 2, it's basically like switching from UT A to UT B.  correct me if i'm wrong..  kinda new to investing

Think of it like your e-wallet and the amount you have is represented as units. When you need to purchase a fund X, you pay for that in the form a switch sell-buy (your CMF units are converted into the corresponding value and then used to buy fund X). Either that, or you pay by other methods (e.g. online transfer). Betul la kot...

Not sure if there is any difference in processing time between the two.

hmmm.. okay.. that part i got it right..
just thinking about the charges if both would be the same... nod.gif

anyway, can't wait till next week.. hopefully some good funds have 0% sales charges  icon_idea.gif

Charges? Switching CMF to any fund X will have to pay the sale charge indicated for fund X. If you meant charges for purchasing CMF units then there are no charges up front.

itu i tau ler..
just confuse niaa.. why have 2 options if both are actually the same... buy UT with CMF = switch to UT with CMF rclxub.gif

For serious investors here, I strongly encourage you to sign up for a free account at Morningstar Asia - Malaysia. You can create different portfolios and x-ray it. This will hopefully help you to become a better investor in your asset allocation.

I attach here a sample portfolio. You will see now what you have been missing.

Thanks Vanguard notworthy.gif Just did mine. Good to know money invested is properly spread out after rebalancing and paring down on overlapping funds (thanks xuzen!)
