Currently using a i5-3570(non-k) and h77 board, would it be a good upgrade to jump to a i5-4690k + Z97 motherboard? I would like to keep the 3570 but I really want a better motherboard but hard to find a seller for Ivy bridge motherboards.

QUOTE(terence_nwb @ Jan 12 2016, 02:02 PM) Nope, you better jump to Skylake (+ more performance boost) instead since price is about the same as Haswell i5. Ah alright then I was looking at this build1. Intel I5-6600K 2. MSI Z170A Krait Gaming (because of white and black theme) 3. Kingston Hyper X Fury 2400MHz 16GB Kit 4. Zotac GTX970 |

QUOTE(terence_nwb @ Jan 15 2016, 11:09 AM) Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 839 I'd say keep the Skylake because easier transition to new build since you get DDR4 don't have to worry about selling old DDR3 stuff, choose a 950 because anything after 950 should just jump straight to a 970 at this moment. Maybe use the extra money to get a better motherboard so in the future any upgrades just need to change processor.MSI H110M Pro-VH - RM 329 Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200 Zotac GTX960 2GB GDDR5 ITX - RM 849 WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215 FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189 Bitfenix NOVA - RM 149 Acer S230H - RM 399 Logitech MK200 Wired Combo - RM 65 Total: RM 3234 (Techview price inclusive of GST) To reduce cost to 3k, you can: 1. Downgrade to Haswell i5 (can save at least RM 120+/-). 2. Downgrade the GPU to GTX950 (RM 699) or GTX750Ti (~RM 550) This post has been edited by siles1991: Jan 15 2016, 11:19 AM |

QUOTE(lee7hium @ Jan 15 2016, 01:32 PM) You can stick to the same processor, get a 950 instead of a 960, then motherboard get a MSI H170M PRO-VDH RM459 or similar. Since you only play COD, gtx950 should be more than enough for now. The reasons for my choice is:Getting a H170 motherboard = more sata and usb ports, also higher end chipset the brand is willing spend more on the quality of the board so better overall quality of motherboard. Longer lasting motherboard = when you want to upgrade to a better processor in the future, you don't need to change to a new one, so in a way cheaper in the long run. H170M if you know that in the future you're not planning to overclock at all. If you ever want to upgrade your graphic card, upgrading from a 950 is better because if you'll be aiming for a higher end card like 970 above, the performance increase is much more significant and worth the money to upgrade. |
