Hi, If i want my desktop to connect to the wifi instead of direct connection via cable what do i need to get ? Any recommendations ? Would it affect online gaming, etc ?

Either USB WiFi adapter or PCI-E WiFi adapter. USB one is cheaper but reliability is lower than PCI-E one.

If your router/modem is close to you, then difference between LAN cable and WiFi is very small, just minor latency difference, if signal is weak (meaning you are far from the router/modem), then you gonna suffer with packet lost.

May I know your current motherboard brand so I can give recommendation based on the slot and size available?

Alright, then I guess I'll go with the PCI-E one.
My desktop is pretty old, mobo is MSI MS7599 870-G45.

Thanks !

Sifu-sifu,

Wanted to upgrade my CPU & Mobo.

I'm currently using as below, and the CPU is bottlenecking my GPU (GTX 670) manage to OC till 3.8Ghz but the bottleneck is still there. Any suggestions ?

MSI MS7599 870-G45
Phenom II X4 955BE with HYPER 212+

Would really loved to use my CPU long-term (So that its still suitable for better GPUs in the future)

Budget around 1 - 1.5k, should I get an aftermarket cooler as well ?

If you want to adopt to latest Intel Skylake DDR4 platform,

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 875
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 - RM 409
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM - RM 289

Total: RM 1573 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

Stock cooler runs fine, if temperature is not satisfied, only get 3rd party cooler.

Thanks for the reply bro,

I'm actually planning to OC my CPU in the future in the event where it's getting outdated and started to bottleneck. Also I'm in favor of an ATX mobo too. What are my other options ? Is it going to be worth it upgrading to Skylake ? or should I stick to Haswell ?

[Budget] RM 3000-3500

[Purpose] Solely for gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Monitor

[Monitor resolution] 1080P

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Fallout 4, GTA V, Leagues of Legends, etc.

[Personal preferences] Prefer chassis with good airflow (Bitfenix NOVA seemed stuffy for me).

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 876
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 - RM 399
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200
Zotac GTX970 4GB GDDR5 Reference - RM 1399 (Christmas promotion)
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189
Bitfenix NOVA - RM 149

Total: RM 3427 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

If you want better quality PSU, swap to Seasonic M12II EVO 620 (modular) or S12II 620W (non-modular) for RM 409/RM 349 respectively.

Add in SSD next time when you have extra funds.

The GPU chosen above is reference card, meaning temperature will be slightly higher than non-reference card, the next cheapest non-reference card is MSI Tiger which costs RM 1535.

Thanks bro, I'm wondering if there's a better casing you would recommend ? The BitFenix NOVA seemed to have bad airflow ? There's no rooms for fans.

It has 2 front for intake and 1 rear for exhaust.

If you want more fan slots, can consider Thermaltake Versa H25, 2 extra on top for exhaust.

Would it be better to have the MSI Tiger GTX970 instead ? is it going to be worth the top-up ?
Planning to use this desktop in an non-aircond room....the weather gets pretty hot at times. A little concerned with the reference card.
