Hey, is it possible to make a very budget dekstop?

[Budget] Max rm800

[Purpose] On9, play dota, sumtimes using autocad

[Hardwares that will be re-use] chasis, monitor

Not possible if going for new hardware.

CPU + mobo + RAM alone can use up all your budget already, HDD/PSU/GPU not yet included.

Hi, need a dvd +/- RW drive and a cheaper case.
Please advise.

Next, may i knw hw is performance difference between skylake i5 and i7, in terms of gaming ?

Great Thx for the help
thumbup.gif

DVD ROM can get any brand you like, price is around RM 60+.

Case can swap to Corsair Carbide Spec-01, around RM 250, you can also pick the one you like which suits your budget and personal preferences.

In gaming, not much difference between i5 and i7 now, i7 wins if the games utilize hyperthreading technology, but in general, i7 will have slight FPS advantage due to higher clock speed of each core.

Of course different sellers will give you different quotes because price and product range/choice (either they want to clear out old stocks or they don't carry the item listed) are different, 6.5k budget is a huge budget and it can get you a very nice build if you know how ot maximize it.

If you want to follow exactly the items listed, just go to the shop I listed below since the items and prices are based on their pricelist, no more troubles and brain hurts, settle nod.gif

QUOTE
MSI GTX750TI DDR5 2GB / GIGABYTE GTX750TI

I don't see GTX750Ti is more expensive than a GTX960, GTX750Ti is around RM 600+ for MSI/Gigabyte brand, Zotac GTX960 is RM 899 (the one I picked).

GTX960 is twice the performance of GTX750Ti.

*
Downgrade certain hardware so you can include an OS in the budget.

I am not sure which OS you want so I am not going to include here (price is different for each OS version), you can do the adjustment yourself to keep everything within your budget.

You can downgrade the parts to following (choose the one you would like to downgrade):

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 839
MSI H110M Pro-VH - RM 329
Zotac GTX960 2GB GDDR5 ITX - RM 849

So, what it should be then?
*
If you buy from retail or physical store, Windows 7 OEM key is around RM 200+/-, so I will just leave extra RM 200 for the OS.

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 839
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 - RM 399
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200
Zotac GTX960 2GB GDDR5 ITX - RM 849

Oh thanks !
But I just realized that my MOBO supports only 1 cpu cooler (4pin) and 1 system fan (4pin). I would like to have all fans installed if possible, what should I do?
(so it would be 2 front, 1 top, 1 rear and 1 for cpu)
*
Many ways to solve this:

1. 3 pin fan to molex (as mentioned by st4Lk3rz), if your casing fan is PWM type (4 pin) then you will lost the ability to control the speed of the fan.

2. Buy casing fan splitter cable.

3. Buy casing fan power hub like NZXT Grid Ten.

Just checked out NZXT Grid Ten. It's RM 82 for it.  yawn.gif
*
But it can power up to 10 casing fans, it is nice if you have a full tower and want to put 10 casing fans with LED strip to show off your rig brows.gif

I think NZXT Grid Ten will be too much for me (using CM N200 m-atx case), i just need to be able to run 4 casing fans + 1 cpu cooler. So which alternative is better? (molex or fan splitter cable)
P.S: I don't even know how those works
*
Molex converter directly connects the fan to PSU, which means the fan will run at full speed, might a little bit noisy if you are sleeping beside the rig.

While fan splitter splits the mobo fan pin connector to 2 or 3, which means the fan is indirectly connecting to the mobo which you still can alter the fan speed if needed.

Okay" thanks, I don't like lots of cables, will there be a lot of cables if I just go with NZXT Grid Ten?
Another question is, should I use high static pressure fan or airflow fan for intake and exhaust (casing)? Any notable 15 mm fans? (my case specs for top)
*
NZXT Grid Ten got 10 slots, and it is plug and play style so if you only have for example 3 fans then 3 cables only (not including the cable to connect the hub to mobo and PSU yet).

Static pressure fan is good when you are going to put the fan beneath an item, i.e. water cooling radiator.

Airflow fan works much better when there is no obstacle, so you have to buy the one which suits you more.

As for 15mm casing fan, you can look for CM XtraFlo 120 (Slim) and Prolimatech Ultra Sleek Vortex 12, XtraFlo has higher RPM (faster but noiser).

may i know the cheapest rig i can make using an amd x4 860k cpu.. for playing dota 2 in max settings..

[Budget] rm1.5k if possible, if cant make it rm2k

[Purpose] playing dota 2 in max setting

[Hardwares that will be re-use] only monitor

[Monitor resolution] 19inch i think ( 1366x768 )

[Personal preferences] cpu - amd x4 860k
*
AMD Athlon X4 860K - RM 369
Gigabyte F2A68HM-DS2 - RM 275
Transcend 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 159
Sapphire R7 250X 1GB GDDR5 - RM 379
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 229
FSP Hexa+ 450W - RM 179
Cheap casing ~ RM 100

Total: RM 1690 (Viewnet price inclusive of GST)

You can get any cheap casing below RM 100 but don't use the PSU included with the case, it is bad for long run, not really meant for gaming/heavy load.

To get a more stable 60 FPS at max settings, top up and get R7 260X if possible.

Okay", so I have decided to buy 3 Jetflo 120 and 1 Xtraflo 120 (Slim) (Case: CM N200 with side panel window), but is it possible to control the speed of 3 Jetflo (I don't want to use the silent adapter provided) while having Xtraflo runs at maximum speed?

Thanks !
*
JetFlo and XtraFlo are PWM based casing fans so you can control them via software if and only if they are connected to mobo 4-pin fan connector.

I actually want to control the Jetflo only while letting Xtraflo running at full speed or control all but non-concurrently, since Xtraflow has much lower RPM. And I have one 4-pins header left only on my mobo. I read that I can use Swiftech 8 Way PWM Splitter or Gelid 1 to 4 PWM Splitter, where can I buy this anyway? Try to search for it, but seems like no one is selling.

Thanks !
*
Yea, 4 pin power hub will work but extremely rare in Malaysia, so far I only found one here.

Hey, im asking on behalf of my friend.. he tried to assemble most 2nd hand part to make a rig for playing dota2 and using autocad..

may i know if these parts work for each other and suggest me a psu too..

cpu - core2duo E8400
ram - 2 x Kingston kvr8002n5/2g
mobo - msi g31tm-p31
hdd - seagate baracuda 7200.12
graphic - asus gtx550 ti gddr5 1gb 192bit (not bought yet)
psu - can suggest 1? (around rm100-150 if possible)
*
They will work but performance won't be good.

If possible, get a FSP Hexa+ 550W, around RM 200+/-, so next time when you conduct upgrade, you don't have to spend money to change PSU only.

QUOTE(chiahau @ Jan 19 2016, 09:55 AM)
Hi boss,

Just a quick recommendation.

I have an idle Dell Optiplex ( can't remember the exact model but it's a SFF computer in my opinion ) which I want to convert as an entertainment PC for my parents.

It's already equipped with a 3rd Gen i7 3770 and 16 gb DDR3 ram from my previous system.

However, the default GPU ( ATI Radeon HD 7470 OEM I think ) only have DVI / Display port for output ( correct me if I am mistaken ).

I wish to plug it into a TV that outputs 1080p for casual browsing and movies at most only.

My current dilemma :

1. Change the GPU to something cheap that has HDMI output ( it has to be a low profile gpu since it's an uber small desktop ) while it's default DELL OEM PSU only goes up to 230w ( I think )

2. Just get a converter and plug it into the TV?
*
I think you mean only have DVI and VGA, DisplayPort is "premium" port somehow and only can be found on higher end card.

For your case, I will just get a converter, DVI to HDMI will do, no need to buy a new GPU just for the sake of a native HDMI port.

Based on uncle google :

GRAPHICS CONTROLLER
Form Factor plug-in card
Interface Type PCI Express x16
Graphics Processor AMD Radeon HD 7570
Video Memory 1 GB
Video Interfaces DVI, DisplayPort, VGA

LOL laugh.gif

I have no idea why they put DisplayPort instead of HDMI in a low end card, well a DVI to HDMI converter will just do the job fine (less than RM 20 only).

Hi guys! Please recommend a rig configuration based on these info.

[Budget] Rm3000

[Purpose] Gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Monitor, keyboard, mouse and HDD

[Monitor resolution] 720p and higher

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Starcraft2, Diablo 3, Fallout 4 (Would like to run those on the highest setting.)

[Personal preferences]

Processor: Intel Core i5 6500
Motherboard: I dont foresee myself using SLI or Crossfire so these feature will not be needed. Would prefer a robust mobo which is durable with 4 slots for RAM.
GPU: Mid range value for money GPU. Will consider spending more for a GPU with higher performance.
Chasis: ATX
PSU: Durable and future-proof for upgrading

[Location] Sabah

Thanks in advance. biggrin.gif
*
Highest settings in Fallout 4 will not provide a very good gaming experience due to unstable FPS, unless you disable or tune down some of the costly settings like God-rays and shadow distance quality.

BTW 3k cannot get you a i5 + GTX970 nowadays and it will set you back to GTX960/R9 380 only.

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 885
Gigabyte H170-HD3 - RM 529
GSKill NT 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 249
Asus GTX960 2GB GDDR5 Turbo - RM 949
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 199
Bitfenix Nova - RM 149

Total: RM 2960 (Idealtech price inclusive of GST)

If you are willing to spend more, you can swap the GPU to GTX970, the cheapest GTX970 is Palit reference card (a.k.a Single Fan model), RM 1399.

The mobo can be downgraded to mATX mobo with 4 RAM slots like Gigabyte B150M-D3H, RM 439 to save some money, case can remain the same (or choose other case you prefer) since it can fit mATX also.

As for PSU, to get something durable and future proof, you can consider Seasonic M12II EVO 620W or Leadex Silver 650W, RM 409 and RM 399 respectively, so when you opt for high end card, you don't have to change it.
