Change the PSU to either M12II EVO or Leadex Silver, S12II isn't modular, he wants a modular PSU.

Recommend me a good & reliable HDD? Faster version if possible, 1TB/2TB. Thanks!
*
If you want faster version then go for 7200 RPM one like Seagate Barracuda.

Is it worth it going for the WD Black? 1TB same price as Blue 2TB.
*
Black is also 7200 RPM, but warranty is longer, I won't recommend you to get Black unless you have money to burn.

And any Blue > 1TB is actually Green re-brand, meaning it is only 5900 RPM (max), Seagate Barracuda's 7200RPM is definitely faster at similar price point.

Hi Sifu,

Is the speed ok for a 5.2k rpm HDD to be used for running games?
Because I think my 3TB WD Blue hdd is a 5.2k rpm one due to shopkeeper dont have the stock for the 7.2k Seagate Barracuda...  doh.gif

though they told me it is 7.2k rpm  doh.gif  doh.gif
*
No problem, just loading time will be a bit longer than 7200 RPM one.

And any Blue > 1TB is actually Green re-brand, meaning it is only 5900 RPM (max).

I see. Now I get it. I will go for the Seagate. Not that expensive too. Thanks bro!

What about those hybrid drives? Any idea? Should I go for a fast 500gb HDD for my games and a normal 1-2TB for my media files?
*
Hybrid drive as in SSHD? I have bad experience with it, speed is almost similar to normal HDD to me.

Normal 7200 RPM HDD is enough for games nowadays unless you want super fast then prepare your wallet for SSD.

As for media files like song, video, movie then 5xxx RPM one is fine, but transfer time will be longer.

But then by looking at the current HDD price, the difference between 5xxx RPM and 7200 RPM drive is pretty small, so no point to invest in slower drive right? tongue.gif

Finally decided for below spec include assembly.

Intel Core i5 6500
Asrock B150M-HDV
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM
WD Blue 1TB HDD
FSP Hexa+ 550W
Enermax Thorex

2100 is it acceptable? (penang)
*
The mobo you choose only got 2 RAM slots, if you can, switch to MSI B150M Bazooka D4 or Gigabyte B150M D3H, both 4 slots and price is around the same.

guys, im about to build a new rig
pls recommend me spec that i can get with budget RM3k (CPU only)

main usage - video/photo editting , browsing , movie

thanks
*
Since you didn't mention which video editing software you are using, so I am not going to include a dedicated GPU for hardware acceleration purpose since the iGPU of Skylake CPU is almost equal to the performance of GT740 (except the presence of CUDA).

Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1369
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 - RM 399
Corsair 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 400
Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB SSD - RM 229
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 400W - RM 155
Deepcool Tesseract - RM 139

Total: RM 2906 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

If you want CUDA as the hardware accelerator for the video editing software (if and only if the software supports it) which speeds up the process, you can drop the SSD and get a GT740/GTX750 etc.

asrock around rm350.
msi cost me 400++ at my area.
im ok with 2 ram slot.
*
Oh I see, the ASRock mobo is priced nearly RM 400 in KL/KV area.

hihi need help:
should i upgrade my mobo too:GA-B85M-D3H or is it better to save the money for a ssd.
which will give me better performance. Note: i have limited budjet.

SPECS: I3 4150/ asrock h81m vg4/ r7 250x / 1gb sshd /12gb 1600 ram(lol)/

Help pls.TQVM  nod.gif  nod.gif  nod.gif

Mobo upgrade won't improve performance.

What makes you want to upgrade? Bad FPS in games? If yes then you need to upgrade your GPU instead, R7 250X is pretty low end.

*
You want to make your PC faster but you didn't mention which part is slow and not satisfying you, so I assume is boot time.

If yes, get a SSD, your CPU is fast enough for CS:GO and your current mobo doesn't slow down any components significantly too.

Hi all, need some advise due to I want to get a CM Elite 130 ITX case.

I wonder that will all kinds of motherboard can fit to it? Anything/ Suggestion that I need to take note?

Thanks in advance.
*
Only mITX mobo can fit into the case, you need to take note on the clearance too when you opt for mITX build especially GPU and PSU length, some mITX is really small and can only fit SFX PSU, but CM Elite 130 is pretty large so hardware choice is still quite wide.

QUOTE(ocm1984 @ Jan 3 2016, 08:42 AM)
Dear sifus, I have the fund to build new gaming rig but is it worth to wait for both Nvidia and AMD new generation GPUs to be revealed by this year??

By the ways, I might need to upgrade my RAM in my current PC.
My default Dell XPS PSU is only 460W.
Currently using Asus Strix GTX 960
MOBO: Intel Desktop Motherboard LGA1155

If I want to upgrade the RAM to Kingston 8GB HyperX FURY 1600Mhz x2 for 16GB, can my PSU or MOBO handle it?
Any other suggestion for RAM other than Kingston Fury series.

Thanks ya..
*
You didn't mention the specific mobo model but LGA1155 is using DDR3 1333MHz by default (most of them) so the new RAM will mostly run at 1333MHz even if you buy 1600MHz.

RAM doesn't consume much power so no need change a new PSU if only upgrade RAM.

You can look for GSKill/Corsair also, but please be noted performance RAM won't improve performance by a significant margin, they are very expensive so just buy what you can afford, if your mobo doesn't support RAM overclocking, getting any RAM with speed more than what your mobo can support is just a waste.

As for GPU, no confirmation date on Pascal and Polaris (rumor) yet, since you are using GTX960 which isn't far away from current technology, I don't see any reason why don't wait.

Thanks for the reply, sifu..

I just attached the detail of my MOBO. Can supports 1600 Mhz RAM?
This PC is the factory build by DELL I bought by 2012, I changed THE GPU last year.
I would like to withhold my new gaming PC rig build and looks for the new GPUs this year..
*
Can you switch to RAM details instead because this page doesn't show any detail about RAM speed nor mobo model.

Alright your current RAM is 1600MHz also, so no issue to run new RAM with speed of 1600MHz.

You are running dual channel now, so 800MHz x 2 = 1600MHz.

Oh, the calculation is like that..  thumbup.gif

Sifu, which means I buy 2x 8GB 800Mhz RAM is sufficient to achieve 1600 Mhz, not necessary to buy 2x 8GB 1600Mhz RAM?
*
If you buy 2 x 8GB 800MHz and run them in dual channel mode, you will get 800MHz also with each RAM runs at 400MHz respectively.

Build based on Dota 2 and CS:GO, if you are really interested to play other games, then you can consider upgrading the CPU to i5 or GPU to GTX960 for better performance.

Intel Core i3 6100 - RM 499
Gigabyte B150M-D3H - RM 439
GSKill NT 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 249

Hello guys, think to upgrade my PC. Below are my current rigs, any suggesiton to upgrade what first?

INTEL CORE I5-4460
ECS H81H3-M4
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
Zotac GTX960 2GB GDDR5
HDD 1TB
FSP HEXA+ 550W
*
What makes you feel like want to upgrade? Not satisfied with gaming performance? Slow in booting?

I will go for SSD first, other parts are quite decent for gaming.
