my rig

GeForce GT620
i3 2120 3.30GHz
Gigabyte H61M-S2P
4gb RAM
GIgabyte 420W
23inch monitor.

guys, i wanted to change my GPU.
is it possible to get some better GPU compatible with my rig above?
i need full resolution 1900x1080(max setting) ; DOTA2...

is sapphire r7 250 boost RM 349 good?
or sapphire r7 250x RM 379

If you can spare another RM 100, go for GTX750, new Reborn client requires better GPU actually even though Valve did say they made optimization for low end GPU.

hi,

i did some homework myself but im totally new in building a pc so i need some help.

background. i have leftover msi gtx 660, corsair vx450w, ssd 256gb, monitor 1x, pc tower 1x.

i would like to complete a pctower with 2-3k. so the elephant in the room is, skylake or not? skylake processors come with similar power/price as their predecessor however their compatible motherboard cost more because of compatibility to ddr4.

comparing price on jayacom's pricelist, with low 2ks i can hit 4790 or 6600. nearing 3k i can get 6700. is it true?

i will be expecting to buy a cpu, motherboard (z97 or z170), 8gb ram (ddr3/4), perhaps a 500gb hdd. can someone come up with suggested build?

edit: i should include the purpose of this pc. nothing intensive, i just want a troublefree experience using computer. i'm too busy/old for trendy games already.

i5 is enough for your usage.

You stated Z97/Z170 so I assume you know the reason by going Z series board, so with 2k you cannot get 4790K, 4790K leftover stock should be around RM 1350 + decent Z97 board RM 650 + 8GB DDR3 RM 200 is more than 2k already.

My personal recommendation is,

Intel Core i5 6500 + H170/B150 + 8GB DDR4

This will cost you roughly 1.7k which is sufficient for your usage.

My computer is sorta 'dying' after being overclocked for a few years (3 years). No BSOD, just power off intermittently. Resetting to defaults used to work but no longer. Could be faulty PSU, but anyway feel like moving on...

It is an old LGA 1156 (i7 870).

I have the following :-
1. RAM - Mushkin 8.0GB DDR3
2. GPU - Gainward GTX 970
3. Sound Card - Asus Xonar Phoebus
4. Optical Drive
5. SSDs - 1x 250Gb Samsung 840 & 1x 500Gb Samsung 850, running Win 8.1 Pro 64bit

I need :-
1. Good 'gaming' case preferably
2. CPU
3. PSU
4. Mainboard

Budget : - Less than RM2k

Can I go for Skylake? tongue.gif

You can't reuse DDR3 RAM properly if you go for Skylake, also it is a budget killer.

I see.. I did a quick run through of Skylake components (LGA 1151 Mobo, CPU, DDR4) and it seems to cost a lot more $$$ than I expected.

Oh well, have to change my PSU then and see if it works.

My current PSU is a Cooler Master GX 650W - any good PSU recommendations? Was thinking of getting another CM (or Corsair).

Hey guys, recommendation for a low-end desktop good enough to run LoL/Dota2/CSGO for cybercafe usage. Let's put budget at around RM1200~1500. Possible? biggrin.gif

Get Seasonic, what Seasonic offers in their PSU is much better in terms of internal components than CM/Corsair's PSU at same price range (for low/mid end PSU).

Include monitor? If yes then nope, budget too low, you will end up with a rig that can run those games at between 30 - 60 FPS only, not really enjoyable for your customers unless they don't care about it.

This build cannot guarantee stable 60 FPS so you can imagine what will happen if budget is < 1.5K.

Intel Pentium G3250 - RM 229
ASRock H81M-VG4 - RM 219
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 189
Sapphire R7 250 2GB GDDR5 - RM 349
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 219
FSP Hexa+ 400W - RM 129
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 149
BenQ GW2255 - RM 379
Logitech MK100 Wired Combo - RM 49

Total: RM 1911 (Viewnet price inclusive of GST)

Will use Haswell (4th gen) instead of Skylake (6th gen) due to budget limitation.

Intel Core i5 4460 - RM 785
Asus H81M-K - RM 229
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM - RM 220
Gainward GTX960 2GB GDDR5 Reference - RM 799
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 225
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 139

Total: RM 2586 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

The difference is obvious, 1GB vs 2GB. If you have spare money for 2GB, go for it. Dota 2 Reborn client max settings on 1080p takes nearly 1GB VRAM nowadays, so 2GB is more future proof just in case Valve update the graphics again next time.

As for RAM, value RAM will do, your current RAM is which model?

Either open the case and check the RAM model or download something like CPU-Z, sometimes CPU-Z won't provide full RAM info.
