Guys, this is my current setup built in lowyat 3 years back:

i3 3220
MSI b75MA-P45
Kingston 4gb 1333mhz budget ram
1TB WD caviar blue HDD
Sapphire HD7850 2GB
FSP 500W hexa series

Currently I am considering to upgrade the proc, RAM and GPU. Probably upgrade the RAM too. GPU I'm eyeing on the GTX970 for gaming purposes. Any idea for the cpu? probably i5 4690k but i don't oc. RAM probably upgrade to 8GB performance RAM. Ideas? Is my current PSU able to support it?
*
Budget for the upgrade?

If you don't oc why spend the extra bucks for the "K" CPU? rclxub.gif

Not sure how far your 2K+ can go tongue.gif

With newest Skylake platform + GTX 970,

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 875
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 - RM 409
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM - RM 289
Zotac GTX970 4GB GDDR5 Reference - RM 1350

If don't care what CPU gen you can get (just want the cheapest),

Intel Core i5 4460 - RM 810
Asus H81M-K - RM 229
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM - RM 220
Zotac GTX970 4GB GDDR5 Reference - RM 1350

Sell your old parts to make some funds for this upgrade if you can nod.gif

PSU can reuse, can consider upgrade also if need more headroom for future hardware extension/upgrade etc.

Can i not upgrade the mobo? tongue.gif or my mobo wont be able to support GTX970?

If you don't want change mobo, then you need to stick with your current processor because new processor won't fit in old mobo due to different socket.

But I still can upgrade to i5/i7 haswell proc with 1150 socket right?  drool.gif like the i5 4460 that you suggested.
*
Your current mobo is this one right? MSI B75MA-P45

If yes, then you cannot upgrade to Haswell without changing mobo, your mobo is using LGA1155 socket, Haswell is LGA1150, Skylake is LGA1151.

Looking to get a new gaming PC and I would really appreciate any help!

[Budget] RM3500-RM4000, including Windows license

[Purpose] Gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Monitor, keyboard, mouse, external DVD drive

[Monitor resolution] 1920 x 1080

[Games & softwares that are used frequently] I plan to play Fallout 4 and Assassins Creed Syndicate when they are released + all the latest games at 30fps minimum

[Personal preferences] I would prefer an Intel + Nvidia build and for the build to be easily upgradeable as I may be upgrading this build a few years later with a better graphics card, etc. I would also prefer not to overclock the PC whenever possible.

Secondly, I'm not confident in building the PC. How much would it cost if I ask someone to build it for me at the shop?

Thanks a lot!
*
Which Windows version are you going to get? I ask this because price is different for each version.

Thanks so much! Unfortunately, I don't live near Pandan Jaya. D: Is there any chance that a shop at Low Yat Plaza can build it for me? Also, will the rig need a Wifi Card for wireless access? I download my games via Steam.
*
Price of Windows OS in Lowyat Plaza is horribly expensive, Windows 7 Home Premium OEM key costs RM 435.

Garage Sales section also got sellers selling cheap Windows key, you can check it out, but beware of counterfeit key.

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 864
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 - RM 424
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 212
Zotac GTX970 4GB GDDR5 Reference - RM 1425
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 207
Seasonic S12II 620W - RM 285
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 170
Windows 7 Home Premium OEM - RM 435

Total: RM 4022 (Cycom price inclusive of GST)

Idealtech can ship the rig for you for free, if you are ok with shipping then you can consider them, pretty good after sales service.

Thanks! But wouldn't getting a 6600k plus an z170 motherboard be equivalent to getting an 6700? And also get more performance.
*
Many people think that the extra "K" will give them significant boosts in game/or equivalent to an i7. Nope, i7 is i7, i7 comes with extra 4 threads that i5 will never have due to lack of hyperthreading.

If the game is utilizing the extra virtual core/thread, then an overclocked i5 will not yield the same performance as an i7. But for now, i5 and i7 will give almost identical performance in games with slight performance advantage in i7 because the current games in the market are mostly still not coded to utilize the extra threads of i7.

But now i am using Intel Core i7-2600 on my current pc.

My current pc
: Intel Core i7-2600
Foxconn H67M
1 x 4GB, 2 x 2GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6670
500GB HHD
FSP Hexa 500W

Can i just remain my i7  processor and just upgrade all another components(mobo, ram, gpu etc), or is it too old to upgrade anymore??? rclxub.gif
*
You didn't state what to reuse (except the monitor) at first so we all thought you are getting a new rig instead laugh.gif

If you choose to keep using your current processor, then mobo and RAM can also be reuse, no need to change because you can't find any new suitable mobo (LGA1155 socket) now.

Since your monitor is 720p, gaming requirements are much lower, but I will just include a decent 1080p gaming capable GPU so you can just upgrade to 1080p monitor next time.

Zotac GTX970 4GB GDDR5 ZT-90101-10P - RM 1479
Liteon S900 256GB SSD - RM 409

Total: RM 1888 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

PSU can keep also but if you want more headroom for future upgrade, you can get Seasonic M12II EVO 620W (RM 409, modular cables) or Seasonic S12II 620W (RM 349, non modular cables).

parts [something interchangeable that i can upgrade later on] hmm.gif

resolution [highest possible]

preferences [friend used msi, says pretty good, though i used nvidia, and its k. whatever works best]

[im in ipoh now, but i has a sis that could get me the stuff in kl]

im still saving up for it though so i expect to be able to have it in early 2016,like jan or feb, probably.
if theres a store suggestion, that can do it cheaps, its appreciated cause im kinda busy with work.
preferably a store with epic cable management skills.

Resolution highest possible? Like 4K or even 5K? I hope you are just looking for FHD (1080p) for now. Those 4K/5K resolution aren't easy to drive by current hardware at the moment.

Nvidia is the company who creates/develops the GPU, MSI is the manufacturer, what your friend is using might be a nvidia/AMD GPU but it is manufactured by MSI.

Come back and ask again in early 2016 when you are ready to buy because price and hardware choice will be different.

aaaight, ill come back later.  thumbup.gif
though, can i get a suggestion of what to expect? like price wise? whistling.gif , so i can you know, scrape some money up.
i think his is amd, im looking for a 1080p ish well, anything alright budgetwise, cause i used some regular monitor and colors came out different. it seems.
*
I think by early 2016, all Haswell (4th gen) stock will be gone so I'll just use Skylake (6th gen) instead.

I hope you can increase your budget because 2.5K budget with monitor included makes the specs look awful. 24 inch 1080p monitor is nearly RM 500 nowadays, imagine you only left 2K, which is seriously not enough to build a decent rig for your usage (work + gaming).

This is just the basic specs that is recommended for your usage, if possible, opt for i7 for faster rendering.

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 855
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 - RM 409

Here's what I bought

Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM
MSI GTX750 2GB GDDR5 OC
Liteon S900 128GB SSD
WD Blue 1TB HDD
FSP Hexa+ 550W
Cooler Master N200

For the monitor,May I know is it worth to top up RM30 to get BenQ GW2255HM(RM420)? or any alternative would be a better choice?
*
If you are comparing GW2255 and GW2255HM, then it depends on your requirements, HM version added HDMI connection and speaker, if you need them then it is a pretty good deal.

If you are looking for something below RM 400, then BenQ GW2255 (without HM) is one of the best choices, if you want 24 inch, then prepare at least RM 500.

Could add extra 500 and maybe push it to 1k for the monitors.

If you need thin bezel for multi monitor setup, Dell U2414H is a great choice but it will cost you 1k just for 1 unit.

CPU is enough to drive new games, GPU upgrade is more ideal.

You can get a GTX970 with your budget.
