Hi guys. Need your opinion on my entry gaming build, based on digitalfoundry suggestion from their i3-6100 video review. This RIG will be used mainly for CAD Software and gaming (Witcher 3, Dragon Age etc.) I'm aiming for 1080p, no insane dual monitor 4K gaming etc for now, in fact I'm going to use my 1440x900 monitor for now. Below are the parts that I'm going to go with with justification.

NZXT S340 RM330 (Mainly for cosmetic purpose, also the space is sufficient in case I wanted to add some fans or watercooling my cpu)

MSI Z170A GAMING PRO RM695 (I got this recommendation from digitalfoundry article, from what I read its better to opt for z170 for some future proofing with skylake build and in case I wanted to SLI or upgrade my CPU)

Core i3-6100 RM500 (The performance are really good for entry gaming and when paired with 2666 speed RAM. also from digitalfoundry)

NH-L9I L TYPE LP CPU COOLER RM185 (Stock fan are loud)

KINGSTON D4 HYPER FURY 2666 (2x4GB) RM300 (For CAD software, I need the extra RAM and the 2666 is from digitalfoundry article as well)

MSI GTX950 2GD5 OC RM801 (price performance ratio, also from articles, I'm open for alternative but would prefer nvidia)

WD BLUE 1TB RM212

CM B500 500W 80PLUS POWER RM269 (This is where I think I could cut a little bit more, but I'm no expert, need input on this)

Total: RM3292

If it matters, you can refer to here for the digitalfoundry reference article.

Really appreciate your input. Thank you!

That's one of the worst builds i've ever seen.. shocking.gif doh.gif

Go with this instead.

Intel Core i5 6500 RM889
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 RM409
Zotac GTX970 Reference 4GB GDDR5 RM1399
Kingston Value RAM 8GB DDR4 2133MHz RM246
WD Caviar Blue 1TB RM225
FSP Hexa+ 550W RM189
Thermaltake Versa H25 RM139
Total:RM3496
Prices are from TechView.

Dunno what's your budget, so for 3.5K, you can go for that.

Around 3K, cut down GPU to Zotac GTX960 Single Fan 2GB GDDR5 RM819.

But the seller is saying about heat problems ? .. Would it be a problem to the rig ?
*
Don't listen to the seller. He/she's trying to get more $$$ from your pocket.

QUOTE(TristanX @ Nov 21 2015, 05:32 PM)
For some reason, i5-4460 is RM679 at Viewnet right now. It is cheap if you wanna spend extra for that. Worth the cash when comparing with newer i5 price.
*
hmm.gif It's showing as RM779 for me, price list is the 16th november update.

QUOTE(chikuera @ Nov 21 2015, 06:24 PM)
How about this?

Core i3-4150 -RM419
Asrock B85M-HDS motherboard - RM264
Kingston 8GB DDR3-1600 x1 - RM189
Leadtek GT730 2GB DDR3 -RM279
WD Blue 1TB hard disk - RM194
FSP Hexa+ 550W power supply - RM189
Thermaltake Versa H25 case -RM139

Total Rm1673  thumbup.gif

Again, I'm a noob in this kind of things..correct me if there is something wrong or not right  sweat.gif
*
That GPU is the weak point of the build. Don't expect to run The Witcher 3 on 1080p. Go with TristanX's or terence_nwb's suggestion. Parts these days are expensive due to GST & weakening of the currency. Before, an i5 + R9 270 below 2K was possible. doh.gif

QUOTE(reil @ Nov 24 2015, 12:13 AM)
Hi guys, I need your reccomendation for building my first pc biggrin.gif

[Budget] RM 5K
[Purpose] Mainly for gaming (want to play new games at high setting), Video editing, photoshop
[Hardwares that will be re-use] None
[Games & softwares that use frequently] sony vegas, photoshop, adobe AE, new games (fallout4, AC Syndicate, Battlefield)
[Personal preferences] intel i5, nvidia 970, if possible, can play new games with high setting within 3-4 years  tongue.gif
[Location] KL
I've done some research, and I am currently interested in these:

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (RM 1059)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler (RM 189)
Motherboard: Asus Z170-K ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (RM 657)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2800 Memory (RM 599)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (RM 469)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (RM 319)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card (RM 1899)
Case: Not Sure
Power Supply: SeaSonic G 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (RM 799)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer (RM 59)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM (64-bit) (RM 299)
Monitor: Samsung S22C350H 21.5" Monitor  (RM 399)

Total : RM 6747

...which is obviously out of budget  sweat.gif  So,
1. Do you have any suggestion to reduce the cost? Or better options?
2. Should I buy i5 6600K or 6600 only? Or other better cpu? and mobo. btw, I'm too lazy to OC
3. About the gpu, I'm torn between gtx970 and amd r9 390, which one performs better? Or other suggestion?
4. For psu, which one is better? Seasonic (above) or corsair AX 760W (rm667)? Or other suggestion? sweat.gif
5. Do I need m.2? what is it for? Is it really necessary?
6. Which case is awesome? biggrin.gif

Sorry for the questions sleep.gif|||
Thanks!!!
*
If you're not gonna OC, then no need to go with a unlocked i5 or i7. About the GPU, for a few games, NVidia GPUs have the advantage due to the lameGameworks. For your usage, going for NVidia is a better option.
Are you sure the G550 costs RM799? shocking.gif

Go for this.

Intel Core i7 6700 RM1362
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 RM424
Zotac GTX970 Reference 4GB RM1425
Kingston Value RAM 1x8GB DDR4 2133MHz RM239
WD Caviar Blue 1TB RM219
Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB RM379
Seasonic M12II Evo 620W 80+ Bronze Fully Modular RM369
Thermaltake Versa H25 RM135
Windows 10 Home OEM 64Bit RM299 - Not sure where you get the price.
Viewsonic VA2246 RM369
Total:RM5230
Prices of the CPU,MoBo and GPU are from Cycom@LYP and the rest are from Viewnet@LYP, unless stated.

Still overbudget, if you're fine going with Haswell:

Intel Core i7 4790 RM1349
MSI B85M-E45 RM296
Zotac GTX970 Reference 4GB RM1425
Kingston Value RAM 1x8GB DDR3 1600MHz RM189
WD Caviar Blue 1TB RM219
Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB RM379
Seasonic M12II Evo 620W 80+ Bronze Fully Modular RM369
Thermaltake Versa H25 RM135
Windows 10 Home OEM 64Bit RM299 - Not sure where you get the price.
Viewsonic VA2246 RM369
Total:RM5029
Price of the GPU is from Cycom@LYP and the rest are from Viewnet@LYP, unless stated.

Build as in assemble the rig for you?

If you buy all the parts from the same shop, i'm pretty sure free of charge. If not, maybe will be charged. hmm.gif

You can try Viewnet, Cycom, Jayacom.

The build suggestion stalkerz gave in your thread, the prices are from TechView. A few parts may not be available nor available at the same price, fyi.

Can recommend the cheapest 120GB & 240GB SSD and 8GB DDR4 RAM I can get?

So far I found:

Kingston RAM: 2x4GB - RM230 / 1x8GB - RM206
SSD: 120GB Samsung EVO RM300

I'd like to avoid the Kingston V300 as I read poor reviews about it's only slightly higher speed than HDDs.
*
DDR4 RAM priced at RM206? hmm.gif Good deal. Go with 1 stick.

Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB RM229(from TechView), i believe.

You bought Skylake processor, right?

can my R9 280x toxic fit into this mobo??
i think it needs 16 PCIE slot or smth..
*
Of course it can. Not 16 PCI-E slots lol, no motherboard has that many slots. It's the speed of the PCI-E slot. Every motherboard has at least 1 PCI-E 3.0/2.0 with x16 speed.

*
Yup, the casing supports ATX sized motherboards. So should fit.

Hi , i just saw this people selling....

i not sure if the item is consider old or latest? do it worth it do buy in RM1200?

Intel® Core™ i7-950 Processor
(8M Cache, 3.06 GHz, 4.80 GT/s Intel® QPI)
Rampage 3 Extreme
Corsair 2GB DDR3 1333Mhz X 3
EVGA GTX 580 1.5GB
Cooler Master Silent Pro M2 620w
Storm Scout Case with DVDRW

RM1200
*
Looks like a good deal to me. With 1.2K for a new rig, it performs worse than the build above.

It's best not to use DDR3 with Skylake CPUs.

Am I missing anything guys? I check Viewnet the Core i5-6400 3.10 speed - RM819. But Google said otherwise, it was at base clock 2.70 speed? Got 2 variant of i5-6400? hmm.gif
*
3.1GHz? hmm.gif I checked the specs on Intel's website, base frequency is 2.7GHz, max turbo frequency is 3.3GHz.

Well, could just be trying to lure customers. laugh.gif Since some people think the higher the speed the better it is.

Haish reading some of the builds here, all high end mid cost around 3k-ish.
Compare back ago high end mid will cost around 2.5k-ish.

Ringgit drop eh? Darn it
*
Before GST + weakening of the ringgit, Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 + GTX970 was possible. But now, nope. doh.gif

Is it true that I have to buy a third party cooler if I buy the i7-6700k? And will the FSP Hexa+ 550w be sufficient for the i7-6700k + a GTX970?
*
AFAIK, yup, you need to.

It's enough, but if you're gonna OC the CPU, i'd suggest getting a better PSU like the Seasonic M12II Evo 620W RM409;

I think my budget will be precisely Rm4k. Still wondering on which setup I should go for. Quite a lot of choices in my mind. Minus Rm1650 for the graphic card, I would have Rm2350 left for the processor, motherboard, power supply, and ram. Hmm
*
Processor + motherboard already eat up most, if not all, of the RM2350 sweat.gif

He can go for a used card if he don't mind it being 2nd hand.
I'm not really familiar with the "2nd hand market" though. You'll have to search for it in garage sales. sweat.gif

Just go with one of terence_nwb's or TristanX's suggestions.

Terence's build if you're overclocking, TristanX's build if you're not. Although i think the Haswell Xeons aren't in the market anymore.. hmm.gif

PRICES ARE OUTDATED

Still following and reading this thread, I notice whenerver someone asking for a spec suggestion..it will always intel as a processor..

May I know why ? is it Amd is not good enough or not worth for money ?

Thanks... biggrin.gif
*
The performance isn't good. Though some people go with AMD, probably because of the performance difference and how much it cost.

If AMD's next architecture, Zen, is gonna deliver, competition will heat up! brows.gif
