Singtel macam yoyo, up down up down between 3.7-3.74

result releasing on 18th May before trade

My SGX portfolio consisting of mostly bluechip is underperforming most of the market.
Most of the gain are from forex gain. Better invest in US, HK. Really waste of time only.

whats in your portfolio?

if blue chip banking stocks up many.. how can still underperforming?
*
Only banking is up, the rest of the sector are either idle or down (eg telco, transportation, postal). Anyway banking has been down for a while due to O&G writedown.
Overall still profit, but it is when compare to other market portfolio (Bursa, US), it is really a laggard. Going to aggressively reduce my SGX portfolio

You ll noticed that the so called bluechip in SGX are very cyclical. It can fall like sharp knife, a 30-50% drop is quite common among its bluechip. There are many example like DBS, UOB, OCBC, GENTING SG, KEPPEL, SEMBCORP, SINGPOST, STARHUB, M1. In my opinion SGX is a difficult market to make money for long term investment. If you think its safe to buy SGX bluechip, think again.

You need to know that US is because of trump. Don't you think it's too late? He haven't even do anything he promise. Yes no market can replicate what the US did (making double digit returns within such short perido)
Regarding bursa. it's because of election is coming.

I think if US market dive, SGX and the rest of the world will follow suit.

Hmm,... you have provided very good insights there, bro,... what you said is quite possible. My experiences :-

1) My REITs and trusts are flying high, not only for the ones I bought earlier, but also for the ones I chose recently.
2) My Singpost died, I sold away back in February,... to me, not worth holding anymore.
3) My Starhub is also in the red, even though I bought early many yrs ago, but the divvies I collected over the yrs would cover the losses. Starhub is still giving out good dvds, but need to watch its Mobile earnings closely, and its Fixed Enterprise progress.
4) My Keppel was avraged down to a good price, hence in the green now. But you're right - the price dropped and the dvds got cut badly !

Yeah,.... from a quick observation and study of the above experiences, you are RIGHT !

Spot on, only REIT is performing well. But high volatility do have it positive side. Singapore blue chip are not mean to be keep for long term, you must know when to exit when its high and buy in at low. Even with high dividend, over long term it is still under perform most of the market if you just hold passively.

Luckily I sold at 1.55 based on my own analyst that earning has been stagnating for long but still trading at high PE 30-40.

Its really very difficult to make money buying SGX stock. Even though the STI index is trading are near record high, the index is control by a few company - DBS, OCBC, UOB, Singtel, and the Jardine conglomerate hold more than 50% weightage. While most of medium and small company are spiraling downward. The only hope is its REIT, other than that the rest are hopeless.

But most US stocks go up across the board. SGX only the selected few large cap & REIT is up. The rest mostly under perform.

I m wondering how is the portfolio performance of most SGX investor here.

Reason is although the STI index is at near record high, it is supported mainly by its 3 banks, the Jardine conglomerate and REITS. The rest of the stocks really perform quite badly. bangwall.gif bangwall.gif bangwall.gif

There are a long list of companies (mostly so called bluechip) that perform badly....
Singpost, Comfortdelgro, SIA Eng, Raffles Med, SPH, Starhub, M1, Keppel, Sembcorp, Sembcorp Marine, Ezion....the list goes on. sad.gif

my un realized P&L + Div = 19%
unrealised P&l + dIV + closed position = 26%

last month was 19% the increase is  because of my semi-con counters that appreciate fast.

i am 60% in reits; 18% in elect & tec..

to grow capital still need to put in the effort to buy and sell whenever....
*
That is quite impressive compare to my SGX portfolio which is near 0% gain this year. I still profit overall.
Whereas my US portfolio is performing very well, 35% gain this year alone.

Don't waste your time on SG stock, just invest in US better. When US sneeze, SG stocks will not be spared one. They will go down fast and take ages to climb back up. You may think their company are better managed, but in reality alot of corporate mismanagement happen in their large corporation as well, KEPPEL , SINGPOST to name a few. This is coupled with poor/slow growth among its blue chip company.

That's true regarding US sneeze. But are you willing to
1) donate 30% of your dividend to US govt for no reason?
2) invest in US when is at a all time High?
*
1) Invest in growth stock then u no need to worry about the dividend taxation.
2) Heard of "Don't time the market"? And then again invest in SG stock will not be safe either, when US sneeze....

Ah I see. You are the type of buy low sell high. No wonder you hate the SG market. Too slow and not much growth.

If want to make fast money,  HK market and crypto is fast moving.

Great another record low from my SG portfolio of so called blue chip stock. The STI index at near record high is pushed up only by a few heavyweight stock like DBS, OCBC, UOB & KEPPEL. The rest (80%) performed terribly. Avoid at all cost.

SGX is full of non-performing company like Singtel, Singpost, SingMyanmar. Anything that begin with Sing should be avoid like plague.

The SGX keeps reinventing itself to cater to the mkt. She knows that there re strong challenges out there,... an excerpt from the report in the link below :-

"To be a financial market, we need to offer more products and be as comprehensive as possible."

https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/stocks/sgx...qualifying-ipos
Let's see how things turn out in the next 5 to 10 years,....

SGX is full of lousy under performed counters. Another 10 years also will be the same. I had keep reducing on my SG holding and shift to US or MY market.
