QUOTE(Hansel @ Apr 28 2016, 07:09 PM) Well,... I would think this commands our attention,.. look at your USD holdings. Where do you park them ? In the foreign currency account earning peanuts or nothing ? This is one instrument that you can go into, bro,...... Rather than hold-on to the USD cash, hoping to convert back into the MYR after it strengthened. I have been saying this all this while,... what do you think ? I believe this is a good way in keeping your usd. I might wan to go in some. got to wait till next mth and see. are u going to buy the ipo now? I have not browsed abt which US counters to invest. maybe this is an opportunity also. Bro Avfan got shared some ETF counters but I m still thinking whether to go in or not. U got any US counters that you prefer. This post has been edited by prince_mk: Apr 28 2016, 07:22 PM

QUOTE(Hansel @ Apr 28 2016, 07:56 PM) Prince, you are a very objective man,... you out in good effort in what you set out to do, I admire that. No, I'm not going to dive-in yet,...I'll study this REIT first. US counters - I go mostly into oil trusts and yielding stocks. I invest using my brokerage account in the US. Hansel, too many stocks. any blog / forum that you refer on US stocks? i m really got to do more reading even after office hour. hmmmmm...if the dividend is so attractive, what are we doing in Sg reits ? for instance : American Capital Agency Corp AGNC — 20.4% Yield Southern Copper Corp SCCO — 8.8% Yield NuStar Energy L.P. NS — 7.9% Yield This post has been edited by prince_mk: Apr 28 2016, 09:23 PM

QUOTE(Hansel @ Apr 28 2016, 10:53 PM) Very good, David,... exactly, Prince,... whatever dividend you earn will be tax-withheld 30% upon payout by the company. Your brokerage will automatically tax-deduct this amount from the payout. Just imagine if you are earning a yield of 7.5%, after deducting 30%, you will only be able to get 5.25% only, to me, that's not worth it. You need to have some investing strategies to lower this amount of Withholding Tax. Then only will your investments be viable. Hansel, We are keen to have a coffee session with u in KL get some insights on US market for begineer level. This post has been edited by prince_mk: Apr 29 2016, 07:51 AM

QUOTE(davidcch07 @ Apr 28 2016, 10:21 PM) SGX got few of them... be honest. You got a lot cash then only talk about usa market.... SG market actually enough for me. David I believe we are retail investors here. Diversification of investment is essential for youngsters like us. Moreover we can invest as little as 100 units in US market. No harm giving a try. And also it is an instrument for me to keep USD as quoted by Bro Hansel. Win win situation. And perhaps u may look at US ETF too which is more diversified manner. http://www.etf.com/QQQThis post has been edited by prince_mk: Apr 29 2016, 08:51 AM

QUOTE(davidcch07 @ Apr 29 2016, 09:05 AM) Prince, I rather buy more unit at SG stock than US market. Give you example. 1. Buy SG stock you can get 10,000 share then dividend yield 7% = how much you get? 2. Buy US Stock you only can get 100 share share then dividend = how much you get? Your choice David In this case we need an explantion frm Hansel. I bought 1 time focusing merely on cap appreciation. Once up at target price, I sold off and lock d profit. Btw what Sg stocks have u started with? OCBC is a good choice now.

QUOTE(Hansel @ Apr 29 2016, 12:48 PM) To make a long story short :- 1) Can buy USD-denominated Stocks and REITs in the SGX to help you invest your USD Cash. 2) If buying stocks listed in The US, it's better to go for capital appreciation rather than dividend because of the 30% withholding tax imposed. 3) When I say USD-denominated Stocks and REITs, I meant to say stocks and REITs listed in the SGX which are traded in and 'dividend-paid' in the USD, not the SGD. Kindly do not be confused between USD-denominated Stocks & REITs and US Stocks & REITs. Ok will do some survey this evening

David, fyi, some of us here are earning RM and keep changing SGD to invest in SGX market. and the exchange was not favourable to us most of time. Hope you understand us. But you are fortunate to have a job in Sg. Envy you. This post has been edited by prince_mk: Apr 29 2016, 09:12 PM
