Hi guys,

my existing house has a air well in the middle with very good catchment of natural lights (from 3 sides of the air well in fact). I planned to remain the air well and to be used as dining area.

However, would need some opinion and experience on how ppl deal with high ceilings to install lights and fan.

Ceiling height: 15 ft

Fan options:
Normal/designer ceiling fan @ 14 ft drool.gif
Wall fan @ 8ft (but ugly) shakehead.gif

Light options:
4 pc Normal downlight @ 15 ft (but changing bulb etc will be problem and need high wattage to beam down) yawn.gif
Track light @ 10 ft (spotlight towards dining table but afraid not enough light to lit whole area)
Wall light (to be coupled with track light, shooting upwards at ceiling for overcast reflection)

Sorry cheapskate no budget hire ID for whole house, doing everything from scratch myself. Contractor has given opinion but would like to gather more from forumers icon_rolleyes.gif

consider the lights at side of wall, else u will have lights flicker due to ceiling fan, makes more economical sense if the bulb at wall, nearer to dining table, less amount needed, less power consumption.

Your airwell will be used as dining area and your ceiling (assume living room) next to this airwell/dining area is 15 feet? Your airwell/dining area is then totally open air??

10ft are quite ok, the fan can be extended, just that that pipe you need to order.

Oh ok understand.

My current living room ceiling is 15 feet. I use KDK (Bayu I think for) fan. Can get angin but not that strong. Nice fan got short rod, so less angin. Not nice design fan got longer rod, so better angin. Pros and cons. Best to find about 1.5 feet rod for ceiling fan. Mine was 1 feet I think.

For lights, choose those 6" downlights. I had 8 of them installed with the fan in the centre and also a chandelier too. Didnt light on the shadow when the fan is on cos my living room is quite spacious.

Show the fan/lighting shop your floor plan, they are able to advise too. I bought 1 or 2 units of downlights extra (just in case la) if needed, dont have to run out to buy satu biji again. Time more expensive unless nearby la.

i asked a few shops, they didn't really provide any opinion. Only say "depends on what you want la.. anything can be done..."

your 6" downlight install at the ceiling? I want to avoid the ceiling and install at wall, not a very big area, at most 10'(W)x'10'(L)x15'(H)

I thought of that. That's why I got a 14ft Ladder. Just make sure you got space to store the ladder thumbup.gif
