May I know any reason U had to replace the timing chain? 70k KM seems too low for the timing chain.

The engine was sound like diesel engine while driving. According to the technician, the chain was knocking against the cover and cannot be repair. Unfortunately that mine was just over 3 yrs and therefore no longer covered under warranty.

I was also being told to do the engine decarb coz the carbon buildup was quite bad. They mentioned the enhanced version of 408T engine does not really fixed the carbo build up problem but somehow delaying the buildup. Eventually it's still happened for all GDI engine.

I was charged for a can of additive (RM196.00) to be added in during my next full tank fuel pump.

That is sad. u have to use it 1 time only?or thers an interval for it? I guess we better do it as well as preventive maintenance.

it's every 8000KM if I'm not mistaken.. Anyone tried Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus?

Hi all, would like to check if anyone experiencing whistle sound from the front driver wheel when turning the wheel? It is very obvious if in basement parking... when to SC and they said it is common as most of the car has it. But my friend who own the same model doesn't encounter it which make me feel odd.. appreciate you advice on it. Many thanks
*
Think it's from the steering instead of wheel.. I've been bugged with this issue since day 1 and non of the visited workshop can solve this issue. Anyone got it fixed?

Tq for the highlights on Prince engine problems.

Just before I bought my 408, had done a lot of research on this engine. Was glad to note EP6CDTM (408THP engine) carries 8 mods addressing reliability issues found on the older Prince. All issues you mentioned have been successfully addressed. The following are the mods:

1) Engine tuned to run on RON 87 petrol
2) Remapped ECU
3) New designed piston with lower compression
4) New designed catalyzer.
5) New engine oil filter housing with heat exchanger
6) New turbo charger
7) New fuel tank gauge unit with lower pressure pump to handle lower grade petrol.
8) A fuel filter to cater for hash atmospheric condition ( third world country)

We've had a few HPFP defects. I believe these were qc issues as this engine carries the modified HPFP. I'm sure you know, qc is not a 100% check. These were possibly those which slipped through the net. No occurrence of failure after replacement. Note, even a fuel filter is added on this engine, to cater for our contaminated atmospheric condition.

Turbos are redesigned, more than a 100 owners registered here in this forum. More than 10,000 postings to date. Not a single complaint on turbo. Below are photos fractured turbo on older Prince. Turbo charger technology is constantly evolving. They are certainly much more reliable now.

Timing chain and chain guide were modified earlier to the introduction of EP6CDTM. Present line up of Prince 1.6THP - EP6FDT & EP6FTDM have been further refined to Euro 6 emission standards. Now that Euro 5 diesels are in Malaysia, I hope we are offered more diesel engine variants soon.

Facelift 308/508 in Malaysia are Euro 6 Prince engines. I believe we'll see more applications of this reliable Prince here in the future.
*
I doubt they have done much mod to timing chain and guide. The service center mentioned there's been a few claims prior to mine. I was the unlucky one as it happened after my warranty.

The culprit to this problem is the tensioner. After a while in service, the tensioner does start to slack. That noise is caused by the timing chain tensioner failing to hold enough tension on the timing chain upon startup.  What you are hearing is the timing chain literally slapping around inside the motor until the tensioner builds up enough pressure to hold the chain tight.

Not trying to frighten anyone, but this is a common problem with all timing chain engines. Even the mighty reliable Honda and Toyota have it.

I feel in trying to save a few bucks, ppl who have had timing chain problems may have skipped the scheduled major service.

Therefore it is very important to stick to Peugeot major service schedules. The tensioner is replaced at this service. Upon start up if the sound goes away in a few seconds, then your timing chain is in good shape.

Thanks Skyjack for the useful info. Much appreciated.

After the timing chain replacement, I'm hearing quite a loud chain rotating sound when I drive the car in low speed while temp is below 90c. I'll take the car back to service center again and hopefully not another 2 weeks stall in workshop.

My steering "hiss! hiss!" sound is becoming very obvious , its louder! and I have the feeling of harder steer.
especially while parking the car or driving slow while steering. I believe most of owners here have the "hiss" sound, rite? is this normal? or any1 had it replaced or repaired because of this? icon_question.gif

I'm having the same problem for quite a while now and non of the SC visited can do much about it. I'm thinking of sending it to an independent specialist for advises..

I also think it may be fuel or fuel pump related. Although the failure is intermittent, I'm surprised the SC is not able to identify the defect from the log. You may want to try Balakong.
*
I was having the same problem yesterday while driving. Totally lost the turbo power in sudden and struggling to climb up hill. My RPM went up to 6k or 7k while driving from idle. Except mine comes with error shown "Engine fault. Repair needed". Tried stop start the car but the error still persist.
Strange enough that I tried again this morning and no more error and the power came back to normal. I'll drive to Kajang SC for a diagnose tomorrow.
I realized that quite numbers of 308 and 3008 owners had the same issue due to various factor.

It could be an ECU problem also, but quite rare. ECU is the heart of the complete engine operation, from stat up to shut down. So far, only bro vknight had ECU changed. Keep us posted, tq & hope yr car gets fixed soon!

Alas, SC at Kajang and Balakong all closed today due to Selangor public holiday..

Same thing happened to a friend who owned 3008. It was diagnosed with issue of carbon buildup in engine. Everything went back to normal after decarb..

Anyone done the decarb for their 408 turbo?

Bro did you call SC Kajang at 03-8741 9088, 9188 or 9288 ??

We're not closed today. Even Last Friday open also. LOLZ
*
Sorry,, my mistake. I assume all SC in S'gor should be the same since the Nasim Balakong was closed. Should have called.

Anyway, I visited the MN Otomobile at Kajang this morning and got it sorted out. It was the faulty turbo regulation electrovalve that caused the error and lost of power. Diagnosis took about 2 hours and part changed within 5 mins.

I must say the front desk staffs and mechanics are well trained, friendly and helpful. I'll be there again during my next service. Kudos to MN Otomobile.
Bye bye Balakong Nasim.

Most important part. Total damage = RM567.52 (parts) + RM66.78 (labor) inclusive of GST.

By the way, saw this promo while at SC.

Good to hear your problem solved. As I predicted, it wasn't carbon deposits! The cost of repair is reasonable. Is this an authorised service centre. Was the repair claimed under warranty.

If it is a independent workshop, pls post address & contact. Will come in handy, since the appear competent!
*
It's an authorized SC. I have to pay since it's out of my 3 years warranty coverage. But still reasonable.

Myabe bro Lucifal can share more details of the SC.

It could be the faulty turbo regulation electrovalve. I've the the same issue like yours earlier and was diagnosed with electrovalve faulty.

I'm at Kajang SC this morning for my recurring timing chain issue which was changed at Nasim balakong Oct last year The "engine error" code popped up again when I had a hard right turn and engine rough while accelerates. Hope they can help to fix this issue once and for all.

By the way, I checked with the front desk about the recall or product enhancement program. They said no instruction has been given about this recall and they r not aware of this.

Perhaps someone can help to enlighten me of which SC in KL or S'gor area that has started the program?

Thanks..

I've 4 items under the enhancement program namely;-

1) Timing
2) Breather hose - Labour (whatever it means)
3) Oil Pump Solenoid
4) Turbo Electric Coolant Pump

My car batch was from end 2012.

My dilemma now is I've replaced my timing chain at my own cost earlier, wondering if I can reclaim my $$? I think the answer is "dream on"..

Comrades,,

Has anyone among 408T owners changed their suspension (lower arm + absorber)?

The tyre mechanic told me there's a crack at lower arm bush due to weak absorber as he claimed. (Not sure how true this is). He advised to change the lower arm + absorber (OEM German made absorber + ori lower arm) at about RM2.5K.

Advice from all sifus is needed here.

Thanks.. :-)
