May I know any reason U had to replace the timing chain? 70k KM seems too low for the timing chain.

That is sad. u have to use it 1 time only?or thers an interval for it? I guess we better do it as well as preventive maintenance.

Hi all, would like to check if anyone experiencing whistle sound from the front driver wheel when turning the wheel? It is very obvious if in basement parking... when to SC and they said it is common as most of the car has it. But my friend who own the same model doesn't encounter it which make me feel odd.. appreciate you advice on it. Many thanks

Just before I bought my 408, had done a lot of research on this engine. Was glad to note EP6CDTM (408THP engine) carries 8 mods addressing reliability issues found on the older Prince. All issues you mentioned have been successfully addressed. The following are the mods:

1) Engine tuned to run on RON 87 petrol
2) Remapped ECU
3) New designed piston with lower compression
4) New designed catalyzer.
5) New engine oil filter housing with heat exchanger
6) New turbo charger
7) New fuel tank gauge unit with lower pressure pump to handle lower grade petrol.
8) A fuel filter to cater for hash atmospheric condition ( third world country)

We've had a few HPFP defects. I believe these were qc issues as this engine carries the modified HPFP. I'm sure you know, qc is not a 100% check. These were possibly those which slipped through the net. No occurrence of failure after replacement. Note, even a fuel filter is added on this engine, to cater for our contaminated atmospheric condition.

Turbos are redesigned, more than a 100 owners registered here in this forum. More than 10,000 postings to date. Not a single complaint on turbo. Below are photos fractured turbo on older Prince. Turbo charger technology is constantly evolving. They are certainly much more reliable now.
 
Timing chain and chain guide were modified earlier to the introduction of EP6CDTM. Present line up of Prince 1.6THP - EP6FDT & EP6FTDM have been further refined to Euro 6 emission standards. Now that Euro 5 diesels are in Malaysia, I hope we are offered more diesel engine variants soon.

Facelift 308/508 in Malaysia are Euro 6 Prince engines. I believe we'll see more applications of this reliable Prince here in the future.

The culprit to this problem is the tensioner. After a while in service, the tensioner does start to slack. That noise is caused by the timing chain tensioner failing to hold enough tension on the timing chain upon startup.  What you are hearing is the timing chain literally slapping around inside the motor until the tensioner builds up enough pressure to hold the chain tight.

Not trying to frighten anyone, but this is a common problem with all timing chain engines. Even the mighty reliable Honda and Toyota have it.

I feel in trying to save a few bucks, ppl who have had timing chain problems may have skipped the scheduled major service.

Therefore it is very important to stick to Peugeot major service schedules. The tensioner is replaced at this service. Upon start up if the sound goes away in a few seconds,then your timing chain is in good shape.

My steering "hiss! hiss!" sound is becoming very obvious , its louder! and I have the feeling of harder steer.
especially while parking the car or driving slow while steering. I believe most of owners here have the "hiss" sound, rite? is this normal? or any1 had it replaced or repaired because of this?

I also think it may be fuel or fuel pump related. Although the failure is intermittent, I'm surprised the SC is not able to identify the defect from the log. You may want to try Balakong.

It could be an ECU problem also, but quite rare. ECU is the heart of the complete engine operation, from stat up to shut down. So far, only bro vknight had ECU changed. Keep us posted, tq & hope yr car gets fixed soon!

Good to hear your problem solved. As I predicted, it wasn't carbon deposits! The cost of repair is reasonable. Is this an authorised service centre. Was the repair claimed under warranty.

Today my 408T encountered sudden power loss for a while n check engine light pop up including the error msg on MFD screen " Engine Fault Repair Needed"......

After a while, everything become normal, but error msg still there....

Curious what prob is this......

I nvr drive till my fuel tank trigger empty warning....but donnu abt previous owner.....scary since i m going to cameron next month....

But all the while i m using Ron95..sometimes mix with ron97...last i refuel with ron97 at kuala kangsar petron.....till nw nvr refuel.....

hahaha...if u don't care about the warranty for certain part..go for 3th party..or maybe after the 3th year.
most of the owner i know say fucked the warrranty after 3th year....most of them mood gao gao..remap...but still we closed one eye for them...  

this closed one eye only applies in my sc ....XDDD....other may depends on your own sc.

hahahaha.....it is another name for RECALL la.....we put it in another words so that ALL the owner don't have panic attack and start sending in the car at the same moment...later world war 3.
