QUOTE(Rhadykall @ Apr 4 2016, 02:18 PM) Lol MMU must've done a really good job with the renovations. Previously no one would expect to see this sort of comment about the hostels. Lol yeah, raised my eyebrow too

QUOTE(onlysam @ Apr 6 2016, 01:00 PM) i heard from src it is true, now hostel internet is shit , u need to pay extra to get ur own connection From what i hear, internet is shitty because of too many 'unnecessary' activities which affected other students. So with this new thingy, you want high internet for your own activity, pay up and dont hog the line.

QUOTE(Rhadykall @ Apr 6 2016, 05:22 PM) But to be fair, they should also implement a cap right? Can't punish all for the fault of some. If they can implement variable speed based on port they should be able to monitor usage at individual port level. Think of it this way; same fees, previously you get to enjoy 10Mbps, now you have to fork out few hundreds more. On what grounds? On the grounds that other people hog the line. From what I see, the direction taken shows this is more of a business oriented decision. not my say whether it is fair or not as I am not affected. what is the max speed without charges? once anything is outsourced, it becomes a business venture dy..so the company will sure want to reap profits..so students who are affected need to raise a complaint. At the same time, they need to ensure that they dont hog the line for their activities.

QUOTE(Rhadykall @ Apr 6 2016, 05:32 PM) Which is why the bare minimum which should've been taken care of is the same infra as before should remain. Anything extra should be the one that is subject to the premium package being offered. From this itself it can be deduced that the fairness factor isn't there. what is the min speed without charge? i would like to know what are the infrastructures that the company has installed to warrant the charges

QUOTE(Rhadykall @ Apr 6 2016, 06:16 PM) I think this question onlysam would be able to answer since he said now is like crap so he must have a previous baseline he used to compare haha I've only stayed in the hostel during the 2nd last semester for like 3 days a week when I had to travel back and forth between Cyberjaya-Melaka campus. Just used the connection for normal surfing so I didn't feel it was bad then. I even used my Macbook to tether the line as my phone reception was lousy SRC no action?

QUOTE(McDermott @ Apr 6 2016, 06:35 PM) I mean what is the max speed on the book foc? Anyway download speed 3.5 M still sufficient for normal usage as a student, no? QUOTE(McDermott @ Apr 6 2016, 06:43 PM) This is what they post in FB. I'm not sure what "necessary steps" they will take. Dear Cyberjaya Campus students We received complains about the recent hostel internet fee/connection. We have contacted the STAD hostel repesentative and necessary steps has begun.. Do bear with us and keep us updated on any report regarding this.. Thanks SRC Cyberjaya

QUOTE(McDermott @ Apr 6 2016, 06:56 PM) For me i more prefer 5M speed. Now, sometimes watching youtube will lag even in 480p. 5M should be sufficient for 480p

QUOTE(odnilafaw @ Apr 6 2016, 09:54 PM) that is Mbps, so roughly around 100~200KBps. (It's slow I assure you) Can't even stream youtube at 480p without having to wait for minutes. Students are complaining because the price is rather expensive for a hostel. If we are talking about apartments people wouldn't mind at all. I think what SRC should do is to nego for a good acceptable speed with FOC fee. Anything higher can be chargeable. What constitute a good acceptable rate, they have to do some work

QUOTE(odnilafaw @ Apr 6 2016, 11:16 PM) ops what I mean by "the price is rather expensive for a hostel" because if I'm not wrong they are going to increase the monthly hostel's fee from RM196 (2nd floor) to RM250(for all floors) , internet is not inclusive. so yeah, RM250 + RM50/monthly (depends on what students opted for subscription rate) for living in a on-campus hostel? Definitely expensive. bad news

QUOTE(wordsmart @ Apr 12 2016, 11:19 PM) Could you suggest some good apartments or other accommodation places? Good as in reasonably priced, location wise(not far from MMU) , cleanliness and basic amenities like kitchen and etc.. I am not driving to MMU or in Melaka. So, I might have to walk to class for the first few weeks. Could you suggest the nearest housing area ar apartments? However, I might 'carpool' with my future coursemates. Thanks(in advance) for assisting! The near ones are Ixora and Emerald Park, no comment on whether they are good or not as have no experience. Other choices are landed houses owned by individuals, rent out to students.
