Currently i'm using Gigabyte 9600pro with its default heatsink.

But i found a small fan which spin as fast as 5,273RPM is a culprit of unbearable noise which disturb me when i want to study or sleep (need to open the pc 24/7 for torrent)

I want to ask, is it possible for me to replace the heatsink .. maybe to fanless type? (is it possible without damaging the card due to high temperature?)

1. What kind of heatsink i must search which is compatible with this old card?

2. How to install? I don't have a guts to install it.

FYI, i don't use this card for overclock, instead i always downclock it to reduce fan speed.. biggrin.gif

Guide me please.

Thanks.

u can replace the heatsink..recommends one with fan...
to install, there are some pins under the heatsink (like the processor fan), remove them and you put the new one there...but do it carefully to prevent damage to your gpu..

one think which concern me is all GPU cooler is suitable with all card or not?

Is it involve anything like socket etc like what happen on CPU heatsink?

I remember my old days where i bought P4 heatsink just to be found that heatsink cannot be attached because at that time i thought all cou heatsink is the same...

Anybody can confirm this?

Thanks.

Different PCB board has vary design of heatsink mounting layouts ..

therefore not all cooler can be mount on each card ......

must check precisely whenever getting any after market cooler ...

basically thermalright HR-03 can run passively ......yet perform well....

or Coolermaster Viva for lower profile card cooling....

some heatsinks u should consider...

1/ Thermalright HR-03 as mentioned by doom
2/ 1 of the Zalman VGA coolers (id suggest staying away from the fatality series. i have one and at full speed its friggin noisy!)
3/ Artic Silencer coolers.
4/ Some of the options in bulk section like the Evercool
5/ Uglyvamp has a fanless VGA heatsink which is shaped like the Zalman VF700 series. only its fanless

regardless which cooler as long as it is passive cooling ... it would required to have spacious casing and good airflow to keep it cool....

@madman

Syloe's right...

No need to buy all those expensive heatsinks as you're 9600 is not hot compared to all those X1xxx series...

Evercool VC-RF is enough... wink.gif

But able to own so many cooler and nice rig as well...

until now also i haven't got the chance to taste the power of Asus premium mobo...

hehe ... just kidding ....

back to the topic ...that evercool cooler is nice and affordable..

however the mounting is a bit touch for new user and sometimes would caused unexpected incompatibility ...

Cycom called me yesterday that the motherboard will be back with them next week...

I'm just hoping that will be true...

Coz if not, i have to buy "hui_ping" ABIT AW8D MAX then...

I really want to try that ASUS P5WD2-E Premium board, but also interested in trying AW8D MAX, not sure which one to grab. rclxub.gif

But, i'm a little worried about the ABIT AW8D MAX motherboard features, it doesn't use 8pin power instead it's using 4 pin, while all other Intel 975X chipset built motherboard uses 8pin power... sweat.gif
