- User Guide
UH720 operating with USB port white LED indications when a USB device is connected to the specific port
Do note the USB hub would be feel a little warm due to the 5V voltage regulator is located inside the hub itself, providing around a recommended max of 8 Amp aggregate current for all connected device (theoretical max should be around 9.6A)
I tried to find the screw to open the hub (to check the internals),but couldn’t find any even after removing its rubber feet
The UH720 USB hub is based on VL812 which is a 4-port USB 3.0 hub controller, thus the USB hub requires 2 VL812 chip to achieve 7-ports (2nd VL812’s upstream is connected to the 1st VL812’s downstream port)
Chipset datasheet: http://www.datasheetspdf.com/PDF/VL812/850925/1
VL812 data sheet state that the ports are CDP (charging downstream port) capable of providing up to 1.5A while data transfer is still available.(not tested due to the lack of >500mA capable multimeter)
USB 3.0 speed test
Tested a WD My Passport Ultra with/without the UH720 hub, speed different is quite noticeable
USB speed test with UH720 hub | USB speed test directly with Macbook air USB port |
Conclusion
The UH720 is just as advertised,high-speed transfer and charging port with good quality cables and power adapter. Although the transfer speed was a little slower on the hub, the UH720 hub is a very good buy if you are looking for a USB3.0 hub
