i was thinking the same thing recently ..
because my current car headunit actually can control the middle display panel ( for those time date bla bla bla ... )
and i want to the reverse camera and GPS working ..
so i wonder can install another motorized player but the audio is from the new player ..
the rest remain the same ...
power wise .. tap from the old player ? or need to get a new source from fuse box ?

If the dash opening is double-din and both units are single-din, there should be no problem in fitting them both into the opening.

To prevent both units being connected to the speakers at the same time, the easiest way is probably to simply "parallel" all of the connections EXCEPT 12V+ switched. Run 12V+ switched through a single-pole-double-throw (SPDT) switch (toggle or rocker).

For the most professional (and reliable) installation, 3 wiring harnesses would be required. You'll get 2 with your new cassette and CD units. The other one is a standard vehicle-specific wiring harness that fits your vehicle (if your current unit is aftermarket, you may already have that one too). If you want to operate the radios in both units, you'll also need an antenna "Y" adapter with appropriate plugs for each unit.

All 3 wiring harnesses would need to be spliced together color-for-color except for RED. The red wires would connect to switch terminals: 1) RED- from standard vehicle-specific wiring harness - switch common terminal (usually center); 2) RED - from reverse wiring harness (stock cassette receiver) - switch bottom terminal; 3) RED - from new CD unit wiring harness - switch top terminal.

this is the best answer i can get from Yahoo! Answers which is the same as what i was thinking..to use the switch.. thumbup.gif
