So my kindergarten teacher friend asked my if I can be the photographer for her kindergarten's graduation in November, and asked how much should I charge.

The problem is, I am a total amateur in this. I'm the type of guy that sees a pic taken by something like Moto G and says "hmm not bad". I do happen to own a DSLR (a Sony Alpha something) that my dad owned and gave to us. Obviously she asked me because she want it for cheap, but I just don't know how much to charge (or how to be a photog for this kinds of event, actually). I just said RM100 offhand from a quick-Googling for how much a photographer charge for this kinds of events and then I divide by half (because I am really amateur at this...)

So in these two months I'm gonna try to learn as much as I can about photography, and probably stick with my charge. You guys got any opinions?

Well, there's always a start in everything thumbup.gif
At least you have a DSLR laugh.gif

What will you be shooting basically? If you will be covering outdoor activities (out in the sun), then taking shots should be fairly simple and straightforward.
However, if you are going to shoot indoor shots, then it will be challenging, if not too much for an amateur cry.gif

Lesser light will make your shutter speed lower, causing more camera movement induced shakes. Pushing your ISO higher to counter the shakes will cause more noise.

Hey guys, sorry for the late update, got caught up in a lot of matters and haven't had the chances. The event is over, and I think I did pretty well for myself. Got RM150 for it, not complaining. I'm a total amateur anyway.

Would love to, but unfortunately it is a private event at a private property so I don't have the permissions sad.gif

All I can say is that it is in an auditorium with kinda bad lighting. Most of the photo I took using just the Superior Auto mode in my camera didn't look quite good in my opinion. I have to bump the ISO a little bit for some photos, at the expense of some noise.

I had a great experience overall. I would love to have more opportunities taking photos and messing with the settings a little bit more.

Thank goodness I don't have to edit these photos...

Ask first:

1) Indoor or outdoor? If outdoor, take it
2) Formal convo photo or casual one? If formal, you need that 'convo backdrop' and printer as well!

So if it outdoor & casual, RM100 will also do good. But if you really honest of your capability and just want to learn, take it for free so there is no party get angered
