Malaysia to Help Australia in Islamic State Fight

user posted image

QUOTE
Malaysia will send experts next year to assist Australia in fighting terrorism amid the rising threat of the Islamic State (IS), the country’s deputy prime minister said yesterday.

Speaking to reporters following a courtesy call from Australia’s Minister for Justice Michael Keenan, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also home minister, said Malaysia had offered to send its experts to Australia in February to conduct the training of trainers (ToT) in a bid to extend its own experience with rehabilitation. ToT programs are typically designed to equip practitioners with skills that they can then extend to others.

“Through the ToT, Malaysia will also extend its own experience in rehabilitation efforts undertaken here to be implemented in Australia,” Zahid said according to Malaysia’s national news agency Bernama.

Zahid said that this was a reaction to the rising terrorist threat that Australia faces from both its residents coming from the Middle East as well as immigrants entering the country. Keenan, who was sworn in as the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on Counterterrorism in May, said last month that Australian authorities had foiled six terror attacks since September last year, when the nation’s security alert was raised to high.

The experts Malaysia would send to Australia, Zahid said, would consist of university lecturers as well as individuals from the Royal Malaysian Police, the Prisons Department, the Malaysia’s Islamic Development Department (Jakim).

What It Looks Like to Load and Fire Inside an Abrams Tank

user posted image

Ever wondered what it looks like inside an Abrams tank when the main gun is fired? A GoPro video from the perspective of the tank's loader shows the action in the cramped space of the turret.

In the video, the tank loader picks up a blue-labeled M831A1 TP-T, or Target Practice Tracer round, loads it into the breech, and closes the breech. The tank commander, to his right, gives the order to fire. Out of sight, the gunner fires the gun and the breech block slides backward—straight toward the camera—ejecting the casing.

The American M1 Abrams tank is one of the last tanks to have a human main gun loader. All other tanks, including the new Russian T-14 Armata tank, have mechanical loaders. Mechanical loaders take up less volume inside a tank than a human being, meaning tanks can be made smaller. Mechanical loaders also don't have to be paid—an important consideration in volunteer armies—and cutting personnel costs by 25 percent in tank units is a very attractive proposition.

That doesn't mean human loaders don't have their advantages. The French LeClerc main battle tank has an autoloader that can load 12 rounds a minute, or one every five seconds. That may sound fast, but human loaders are actually faster—skilled U.S. Army tank loaders can load the gun in three seconds, and in the first Gulf War, an M1 Abrams tank destroyed three enemy vehicles in five seconds.

Tank crews are also useful in other roles. The more crew around to do tank maintenance and upkeep the better. During lulls in combat, a four man tank can still have one man outside the tank, keeping watch, while the rest of the crew can still man all the tank's essential functions. A three man tank will have to send the gunner, driver, or commander outside—meaning the tank either can't shoot, can't move, or the commander can't quickly issue commands to the crew.

American tankers have a suspicion of tanks that don't have human loaders. During the Cold War, it was rumored that the automatic loader on a Soviet T-72 tank would occasionally mistake a tanker's arm for a main gun round and attempt to feed it into the gun. And during the development of the XM-8 Armored Gun System, the tank's autoloader was derided for jamming while ejecting the round outside the turret, necessitating a crew member getting out of the tank and expose himself to enemy fire in order to clear the jam.

Did a blind Bulgarian clairvoyant predict the rise of ISIS?

user posted image

QUOTE
A Bulgarian clairvoyant who died 20 years ago warned of the rise of ISIS by claiming there would be a 'great Muslim war' in 2016, it has been reported.

Baba Vanga died in 1996 at the age of 85 and was known as the 'Nostradamus of the Balkans' because of her success rate which was supposedly as high as 85 per cent.

The blind pensioner, who has previously been credited with predicting the 9/11 terror attacks and the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004, warned of an invasion of Europe by Muslim extremists next year.

Vanga is said to have made hundreds of predictions in her lifetime, including that there would be a 'great Muslim war' which would start with the Arab Spring in 2010.

She predicted it would take place in Syria and would come to a conclusion in 2043 with the establishment of a caliphate with Rome at its centre, News.com.au reports.

This Is The Navy's New Zumwalt-Class Destroyer Out At Sea For The Very First Time

QUOTE
Pre-Commissioning Unit Zumwalt, soon to be known as the USS Zumwalt, is the United States Navy’s newest and most advanced surface warfare ship. It’s almost an experiment in its own right, with only three ships planned, only 60 percent of the crew of a regular destroyer, and enough power to feed railguns and lasers that don’t even exist yet. Here it is on its first sea trials today, and just look at it.

The Zumwalt left the Bath Iron Works shipbuilding facility on the Kennebec river in Maine, like a slab-sided techno-iceberg from the future being pushed along the calm waters by staid, antiquated-looking tugboats.

UAE conspiring to end Tunisia's fledgling democracy: Source

user posted image

QUOTE
The United Arab Emirates is seeking to end Tunisia’s democratic transition and return the country to authoritarian rule, according to details of a meeting between top military officials from the Gulf state and Algeria.

The latest revelations, from a high-level Tunisian source, come after Middle East Eye reported that the UAE had threatened to destabilise Tunisia because President Beji Caid Essebsi rebuffed an approach from Abu Dhabi to repress Tunisian Islamist movement Ennahda.

The high-level source told MEE on condition of anonymity that UAE made its intentions known when the respective heads of the Algerian and Emirati armed forces met at the Dubai air show on 9 November.

Chief of Staff for the UAE Armed Forces Lieutenant General Hamad Mohammed Thani al-Rumaithi told Algeria’s military head Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaid Salah: “Soon the ‘Obama experiment’ will be finally dealt with permanently and we can go back to business as usual.”

Syrian Army and Hezbollah Advance in Southern Aleppo as the Islamist Rebels Struggle to Halt the Onslaught

user posted image

Over the last 24 hours in the Aleppo Governorate’s southern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 43rd, 82nd, and 155th Brigades of the 4th Mechanized Division – in coordination with Hezbollah, Harakat Al-Nujaba (Iraqi paramilitary), and the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Aleppo City – have captured and reclaimed several villages from the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki, and Liwaa Suqour Al-Sham after a day filled with violent firefights.

On Monday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division and their allies advanced towards the Islamist rebels main supply route along the Aleppo-Damascus Highway (M-5 Highway), capturing the villages of Zeitan and Al-Qa’layjiyah after Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki retreated towards the strategic town of Al-Zorba.

Following the capture of Zeitan and Al-Qa’layjiyah near the strategic towns of Al-Zorba and Khan Touman, the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division and their allies imposed full control over the contested villages of Khalsah and Al-Hamra; this powerful assault resulted in the death of several enemy combatants and the capture of 4 fighters from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Jabhat Al-Nusra.

With the capture of the aforementioned villages, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies are now in position to strike the town of Al-Zorba along the Aleppo-Damascus Highway; this leaves the Islamist rebels in a dire position to protect their main supply route to the provincial capital of the Aleppo Governorate.

However, before the Syrian Armed Forces launch a large-scale assault on Al-Zorba, they will need to secure the village of Burnah, which is situated directly north of Tal Al-‘Eiss – Hezbollah and the SAA’s 43rd Brigade control 80 percent of the village.

Turkey inserted its commandos into border regions of Syria inhabited by Turkmens, while Russian Air-force started hammering their positions immediately.

Russian bombers in this operation were escorted by nine Su-34 fighter jets, that flew along Syria-Turkey border.

Turkey scrambled F-16 , but their pilots didn’t even dare to interfere with bombing of their own on the ground, reports online portal Fakti.

ISIS loses ground: Iraq military recaptures neighborhood outside Ramadi

Iraqi troops on Tuesday retook a neighborhood on the outskirts of Ramadi, a provincial capital west of Baghdad that was captured by the Islamic State group earlier this year, officials told The Associated Press.

The retaking of the area comes just over a week after Iraqi forces announced the capture of the Palestine Bridge, completing the encirclement of the city.

ISIS captured Ramadi in May, dealing the biggest blow to Iraqi forces since the fall of Mosul nearly a year before. The government soon announced a counter-offensive, but progress has been sluggish.

Officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to brief the press.

How the military is designing new tactical gear for female soldiers

user posted image

QUOTE
A tactical vest designed to protect a man’s torso is likely to fit a woman poorly, and to make it difficult for her to crouch and aim a rifle. Body armor meant to protect a man’s lower body from shockwaves and shrapnel won’t do the same for a woman.

The military branches have anticipated this problem for a while, and some have already begun redesigning gear to fit a wider range of body types.

The Army, which has allowed women to serve in combat roles since 2013, issued a female version of the Improved Outer Tactical Vest in Afghanistan the year before. The new vest has a tapered construction, better shoulder and waist adjustability, and a redesigned collar that won’t get caught in longer hair.

The redesigns extend to next-generation military gear, too, including the prototype Soldier Protection System (SPS) being developed by DARPA, the Army, and eight commercial partners including 3M subsidiary Ceradyne. The SPS is a full suit of hardened body armor that will better protect soldiers from bullets, sharp objects, and even fires. It will also include sensors that can monitor soldiers’ health in real time, and combat eyewear that can transition from outdoor to indoor mode in under a second.

The Army is working with its partners to develop male and female versions of the SPS, re-sizing components as necessary and even using lasers to measure precise details, according to Nick Stockton at Wired. The final SPS, which is expected to enter production in 2016, will fit 94 percent of male and female soldiers – everyone except for those with very large or very small frames.

IS TURKISH SUDDEN BATTLE TANK ATTACK ON S-400 A POSSIBILITY?

user posted image

QUOTE
Turkish troops could make a rapid rush with the tanks to the area of Russian S-400 air defense systems and overtake it,” said a former Russian journalist Yevgeny Kiselyov on the of radio station “UkrLife”, who’s been working in recent years in Ukraine.

According to him, Hmeymim airport is only three hours by tank away from Turkish border “Scenario that these missiles would fall into the hands of Turkey, who at any moment can make a sudden move into the Syrian territory is quiet possible,” — shared his fantasies Kiselev. Perhaps such “hypotheses” of political defector wouldn’t be worth considering, if the recent events in Syria haven’t shown how suddenly and dramatically situation can develop. How much it affects the most different reasons. Once Turkey crossed a red line, knocking Russian bomber out of the sky, no one can guarantee that she won’t try to do it again.
QUOTE
One shouldn’t be afraid of the Turkish rapid tank rush, — says the President of the Academy of geopolitical problems Leonid Ivashov. — It is hardly possible. But you have to be ready for everything. It is necessary to continue support Syrian army with equipment and weapons. In some most important sectors, perhaps we should place our land forces. But only in order to introduce them into battle as a last measure, also for defense of strategic objects, such as S-400 missile system.

Additionally, it is necessary now (although it should’ve been done before) to make an official statement to the Turkish leadership that we reserve the right to answer any Turkish armed provocations.

But if we are talking about direct military invasion by Turkish troops in Syrian territory, President Erdogan needs to be reminded that nobody cancelled the Treaty of friendship and mutual assistance between the Soviet Union and Syria of 1980. In the case of third party aggression against Syria, we not only can, but even are obliged to respond in defense of an ally. And we’ll conduct accordingly.

It is now necessary to augment our naval force in the Black sea and near the borders of Turkey. That is, to respond to provocations not only with economic and diplomatic measures, but also with a serious military preparations.

— However, Turkey is a NATO member. Could’ve Russian actions against her on behalf of Syria mark the beginning of the Third World War?

— After the incident with the downed Russian bomber the Alliance in fact, denied Turkey support. Alliance’s top brass treat Russia-Turkey relations as a matter outside of “NATO’s business”.

Russia strikes ISIS targets in Syria from sub in Mediterranean for first time (VIDEO)

user posted image

Russia has, for the first time, targeted Islamic State targets in Syria with Kalibr land-attack cruise missiles launched from a submarine in the Mediterranean Sea, according to Russia’s Defense Minister.

The 3M-54 Kalibr missiles were launched from the Kilo-class diesel-electric submarine “Rostov-on-Don”, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.

Russia’s warships based in the Caspian and Mediterranean seas launched similar missiles targeting Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) positions in late November. This is the first time that Russia has targeted IS in Syria from a submarine.

“[The missiles] targeted two major terrorist positions in the territory of Raqqa,” he said.

“We can say with absolute confidence that significant damage has been inflicted upon ammunition warehouses and a mine production plant, as well as the oil infrastructure.”

US Army Tests Venom System to Kill Drones at Maneuvers - Northrop Grumman

user posted image

The US Army’s new Venom detection and tracking system to destroy drones has been successfully demonstrated at military maneuvers, defense contractor Northrop Grumman said in a press release on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Venom is a ground-based targeting system that incorporates Northrop Grumman's Lightweight Laser Designator Rangefinder to provide target designation for delivery of precision-guided munitions.

"At the Army Maneuver-Fires Integrated Experiment (MFIX) held at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Northrop Grumman's Venom demonstrated the ability to identify and track small unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and to provide accurate targeting data while on the move," the release stated.

In the test, the Venom system supported counter-drone functions from two vehicles, providing precision target coordinates for fire support then locked onto and tracked low-flying, small unmanned aircraft, the release added.

The US is building a new advanced missile defense system — and Iran could be one reason why

user posted image

QUOTE
On Tuesday, Reuters reported that Iran “tested a liquid-fueled missile … capable of carrying a nuclear warhead” last month, citing two anonymous US officials.

The test would mark Iran’s second illicit ballistic-missile launch since the landmark nuclear deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was reached between Iran and a US-led group of six countries earlier this year.

Iran also tested a long-range, nuclear-capable Emad-class missile in October.
QUOTE
According to Space News, the MKV fills a gap in US missile defense capabilities. In one possible attack scenario, an adversary would launch warheads along with decoys meant to fool existing defense systems.

An MVA is supposed to be capable of destroying both the decoy and the actual warhead. It’s also possible an adversary would launch multiple missile salvos specifically meant to fool US missile defense that an MKV would still be capable of intercepting.

In his March 2015 testimony, Syring touted the benefits of the MKV, claiming it would “revolutionize” US missile defense. He also identified Iran as one country pursuing the kinds of capabilities that the MKV is almost purpose-built to counter.

“Iran … has publicly demonstrated the ability to launch simultaneous salvos of multiple rockets and missiles,” Syring said.

‘Four Lions’ Reminds Us to Laugh at Extremists

The terrorists gather in a small house in Sheffield to discuss their plot. Fasail pitches his first. “My plan is, right, to put a bomb on a crow and fly it into one of them towers full of Jews and slags.”

Barry, a startlingly white and fanatical recent convert, has a better plan. He wants to blow up the local mosque. “We go in dressed like kuffar,” he explains. “They think it’s the unbelievers attacking so all the Muslims rise up and fight back. Stoke things up proper big time, fast-track the final days. Total war.”

Fasail hates the plan. His dad goes to that mosque. “Has your dad ever bought a Jaffa orange?” Barry asks. Fasail admits he has one or twice.

“Right, he’s buying nukes for Israel bro. He’s a Jew,” Barry explains.

U.S. Says Russia—Not Coalition Forces—Accidentally Bombed Syrian Allies

user posted image

QUOTE
The US countered claiming that a Russian bomber—likely a Tu-22 Backfire bomber—was responsible for the attack. The Tu-22, a swing-wing strategic bomber, has been conducting attacks in Syria for the past month.

Unlike other Russian bombers, the Tu-22 is unable to drop so-called "smart" ordnance, which uses various types of tech to guide itself in air towards the target. Instead, the Tu-22 deploys regular "dumb" bombs, World-War II style.

Listen To The Threat You'll Hear If You Screw With British Airspace

Start flying around the United Kingdom without telling anyone where you're going, and you'll get a stern talking-to. Ignore the stern talking-to, and you'll see some fighter jets off your wing. Ignore them, and this might be the last thing you'll hear before you get blown out of the sky.

Local denizens of Kent, in eastern England, heard a spine-rattling bang yesterday from two Eurofighter Typhoons racing over the British landscape. They were headed to intercept a Latvian An-26 cargo plane which had stopped responding to British air traffic controllers, according to the BBC:

China Decries US P-8 Deployment in Singapore as 'Regional Militarization'

user posted image

QUOTE
China was none too happy with the agreement. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told reporters that “the overall situation in the South China Sea is peaceful and stable,” just as regional countries want. “Against a backdrop as such, is military deployment and regional militarization by the U.S. in line with the aspiration shared by countries in the region?” Hua asked. She immediately answered the question on China’s behalf: “In our point of view, it goes against the common and long-term interests of countries in the region.”

It’s interesting that Hua takes the United States to task for “regional militarization” without laying any blame on Singapore, which agreed to host the U.S. deployment of a P-8 surveillance aircraft (and already hosts U.S. littoral combat ships). After all, Chinese President Xi Jinping was in Singapore for a state visit just a month ago. Chinese officials, hoping to smooth relationships damaged by the South China Sea disputes, cited the friendly China-Singapore relationship as a potential model for China-ASEAN ties. That adds an extra twist to the announcement made this week, during Singapore Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen’s visit to Washington, D.C.

INTERNATIONAL MILITARY REVIEW – SYRIA-IRAQ BATTLESPACE, DEC. 8, 2015

ISIS militants launched a full-scale offensive on the villages of Ayyash and Bgelia after the US-led ‘anti-ISIS’ coalition’s airstrikes against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in this area. On Sunday, the US-led ‘anti-ISIS’ coalition poundend the Syrian Arab Army’s positions in the province of Deir Ezzor. 1 soldier was killed and half dozen others were wounded. According to the reports, the military camp belongs to the SAA’s 137th Artillery Brigade in the village of ‘Ayyash was a main target of the US warplanes.

On Monday, the SAA launched an offensive in Jabal Al-Akrad and took control of Burj Al-Qasab. several It allowed the pro-government forces to capture several key locations earlier controlled by Al-Nusra, the Free Syrian Army and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham in the Latakia province. They are the village of ‘Ikko located near the town of Kabani, and the villages of Bouz Al-Khirbat, Beit Fares, and Al-Mughayriyah. It allows the SAA and its allies to advance on Kabani.

On December 7, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi reiterated the withdrawl of Turkish troops from northern Iraq within 24 hours. Turkey were invited by the Kurdish Regional Government, with no coordination or communication with Baghdad. It has since said it will replace existing troops in Iraq that number a few hundred, with as many as 2000 soldiers. The Iraqi security forces and the Shi’ite militias are overstretched with their fight against ISIS and they have little presence in this Peshmerga controlled area. It can only be speculated that how Iraq will respond to the Turkish invasion once the 24 hour ultimatum expires.

The Kuwaiti al-Rai news website quoted an informed diplomat as saying that the US is attempting to gather the forces called by Washington as moderate opposition in one region to create a foothold for the militants’ further expansion in Syria. According to the report, US-supported militants have entered Southwestern Syria which shares borders with Jordan. The reports were rejected by Amman.

SouthFront: Analysis & Intelligence remembers when Russia started air raids on terrorists in Syria over two months ago, some 3,000 terrorists escaped through the border with Jordan. Earlier in May, US defense officials said that at least 400 US military military advicers were ready in Turkey and Jordan to start training of over 3,000 anti-Syria militants to join fight against the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

The flight recorder of the Russian Su-24 recently downed by Turkey in Syria has been recovered and presented to President Putin, who said it must be opened in the presence of international experts to reveal truth about the treacherous “stab in the back.”

Shoigu said that Russia has been actively conducting operations on Syrian territory, where the Russian Su-24 pilot was “gunned down” by Turkmen militants after he had ejected from the plane.

TEHRAN, December 8. /TASS/. Iran intends to buy the T-90 tanks from Russia, Commander of the Iranian Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said in an interview to local reporters on Tuesday.

"Our ties with Russia in the field of equipment supply are established, and we have on our agenda the purchase of T-90 tanks," Pourdastan told reporters on Tuesday, quoted by the Tasnim news agency. He expressed the hope that the corresponding contracts will be concluded and Iranian experts will go to Russia to acquire the experience of operation of this modern equipment.

Iranian experts will make a trip to Russia to sign the related contracts with Russians, the Iranian commander stressed, adding, however, that no such contract has been signed yet. "We will tap into the capacities of any country for the improvement of our capabilities," Pourdastan said.
