Looks like the Indonesian Army new Leopard 2RI tanks are equipped with an optic camera (maybe for the driver) on the front armor as seen from this two photos below:

Similar optic camera can be seen on the Leopard 2A7:

It's more similar with Revolution version shown in Eurosatory 2014

A bit disappointing that it isn't the same with the one displayed on IndoDefence 2012

I was referring to the optic camera on the front center armor.

Never seen those kind of optic camera on the Singaporean Leopard 2SG.

It seems TNI-AD Leopard 2RI tank is based from the first MBT Revolution prototype. The turret has a similar design to the Leopard 2RI.

cant wait to see su-35 in tni-au camo when its materialize

Indonesia need to modernize it's outdated military equipment to cover it's vast island territory.

Anyway the plan procurement of 9 AW-101 (3 VVIP + 6 Utility) are for the Indonesian Air Force while the Indonesian Army is negotiating with Boeing for four CH-47F Chinook.

There is not yet any signing for the Su-35 contract. Recent news was that the Indonesian Defence Minister has officially approved & signed the Su-35 purchase document that have been submitted by the Indoensian Air Force.

Singapore awards Lockheed Martin F-16 upgrade contract

Jon Grevatt, Bangkok - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly
01 December 2015

Lockheed Martin is to upgrade the RSAF F-16 fleet in a contract valued at USD914 million. Source: IHS/Patrick Allen

Lockheed Martin has been awarded a USD914 million contract to upgrade the Republic of Singapore Air Force's (RSAF's) F-16C/D Fighting Falcon aircraft, the US Department of Defense (DoD) announced on 1 December.

The DoD said that the fixed-price incentive and cost-plus contract, awarded under the US Foreign Military Sale (FMS) mechanism, is expected to be complete by June 2023. It added that the contract is the result of a sole-source acquisition managed by the United States Air Force's Life Cycle Management Center.

The DoD did not elaborate on the work to be included as part of the contract and the Singapore Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) said it was not planning to issue any statements about the contract award.

However, a DoD statement published in May announcing the USD130 million FMS sale of equipment to support the F-16 upgrade said the programme included the provision of 50 joint helmet-mounted cueing systems, 90 AN/APX-126 advanced identification friend or foe devices, and 150 LAU-129 missile launchers. Also included are 10 MK-82 500 lb and 3 MK-84 2000 lb inert bombs and kits for Joint Direct Attack Munitions.

A factsheet published by MINDEF in June said that the upgrade will also include the installation of an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, although this was not included in the list of equipment announced by the DoD in May. IHS Jane's has previously reported that the AESA radar requested by Singapore is the Northrop Grumman AN/APG-83 Scalable Agile Beam Radar.

The RSAF operates 20 F-16C and 40 F-16D Block 52/52+ platforms, which were acquired from the late 1990s.

Aselsan to develop AKKOR Active Protection System for Turkish Altay main battle tank

Leading Turkish defense company Aselsan has announced it signed an agreement regarding the “Active Protection System Development Project,” dubbed AKKOR, for the Turkish Land Forces with the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM), valued at 54 million euros.

The delivery of the Active Protection Systems, which will be developed and produced by Aselsan, will be made in 2020, added the company in a written statement to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) on Nov. 30.

This system will be used in Turkey’s local tank, the Altay, as reported by Anadolu Agency.

The project will include design, development, testing and qualification and production of two Prototype-1 prototypes and two Prototype-2 prototypes with delivery of the prototypes to SSM.

The AKKOR system will provide a complete protection shield and will have the capacity of perceiving any threats immediately through its high-technology radar systems. Each radar sensor continuously scans a 100-degree arc, creating a full 360 degree detection capability with some overlap.

President Jokowi rejects new helicopter purchase

Kamis, 3 Desember 2015 19:23 WIB - 0 Views

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has decided to reject the proposed purchase of a helicopter as its price is too high in view of the current financial conditions.

Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said on Thursday that the President has rejected the proposed purchase of the helicopter as the existing helicopter can still be used.

The Indonesian government had earlier reported that it was still studying a plan to buy a helicopter for the President.

"I do not want to speculate. But, we will see whether the existing presidential helicopter needs to be replaced or not," Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan said on Sunday after seeing off President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana, who were leaving for a visit to Paris, France.

The plan will be discussed again when the President returns after attending the Paris Climate Change Conference next week.

The media had earlier reported that Indonesian Air Force will buy three helicopters for very very important persons (VVIPs) under the 2015-2019 Air Force strategic plan.

"For the time being, we will use the strategic planning budget to buy three helicopters for the VVIP Air Squadron," stated Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Agus Supriatna at a gathering with the media at the Wisma Angkasa building in South Jakarta on Nov. 24.

He emphasized that the purchase of the VVIP helicopters for the President, Vice President, state officials, and guests of the country will prioritize safety and comfort.

The plan to buy the three AW101 modern and sophisticated helicopters is purely the result of a study conducted by the VVIP Air Squadron, which was further evaluated by the Military (TNI) Headquarters.

"This is the result of our study, and after a thorough assessment, I decided to buy the VVIP helicopters," the Air Force Chief of Staff confirmed.

Agus added that depending on the budget, the helicopters will include security features, such as a bulletproof body, anti-jamming devices, and anti-missile systems.

He expressed hope that the first AW101 helicopter would arrive before April 9, 2016.(*)

US To Support S. Korea’s KF-X Stealth Fighter Program Amid Confusion On Tech Transfer

Source : Our Bureau ~ Dated : Thursday, December 3, 2015 @ 07:51 AM

Amid confusion over denial of four critical technology transfers for the KF-X program US has promised to support Republic of Korea (ROK) in its stealth fighter program.

“The U.S. continues to support the Republic of Korea’s defense programs and priorities through the transfer of many of our most sensitive defense technologies. We seek to support the KF-X indigenous fighter program to the maximum extent possible,” department spokesperson Katina Adams was quoted as saying by Yonhap News agency Wednesday.

The US state department approved 21 technologies and denied four technologies that include integrated systems for active electronically scanned array radar, electro-optical targeting pod, infrared search and track and radio frequency jammer last year citing national technology protection policy.

Both the nations agreed on setting up a working group to facilitate the $15.5 billion KF-X program. South Korea plans to unveil the first KF-16 warplane in a decade and deploy 120 units by 2032.

“The U.S. government is in discussions with Lockheed Martin to address ROK areas of concern. We will continue to work closely with Lockheed Martin throughout this process to ensure continued support to the KF-X program,” Adams said.

Adams said nothing had been decided. “Programs like the KF-X are large and complex.

S. Korean aircraft maker inks partnership deal with Indonesian firm

2015/12/04 15:56

JAKARTA, Dec. 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's aircraft manufacturer Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. (KAI) signed a strategic cooperation agreement with an Indonesian aerospace company on Friday as part of efforts to expand its business in Indonesia's defense industry.

The strategic partnership signed with state-run aerospace company PT Dirgantara Indonesia (DI) calls for the two aerospace manufacturers to forge tighter collaboration in the fields of munitions for the defense and private sectors as well as unmanned aerial vehicles, according to KAI officials.

The heads of the companies signed the agreement in Indonesia's defense ministry in Jakarta earlier in the day.

Through collaboration in aircraft development and production, they will jointly seek entry into a new market, according to the agreement. The companies will also hold two sessions of a joint committee meeting every year, the officials said.

The two companies are the contract manufacturers of South Korea's 18 trillion won (US$15.5 billion) fighter jet development project, which the country will officially kick off in partnership with the Indonesian government.

Indonesia will bankroll 20 percent of the development of the Korean Fighter Experimental (KF-X) project in order to gain access to the new combat jets.

With the latest agreement, KAI will be able to make inroads into the depot maintenance market for the Indonesian air force as well as other aerospace sectors in the country, the South Korean firm said.

"The strategic partnership of the two countries will guarantee the success of KF-X and entry into a new market," KAI President Ha Sung-yong said. "It will be a win-win deal for the two countries' aerospace industries to become a new growth engine for the countries' economic growth."

S. Korea, RI aerospace firms sign KFX cooperation deal

Novan Iman Santosa
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | December 05 2015 | 3:12 PM

South Korea and Indonesia are set to elevate their strategic partnership by signing a strategic cooperation agreement on the joint development and production of KFX/IFX jet fighters.

The agreement was signed on Friday by Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. president and CEO Ha Sung-yong and his counterpart PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI) president director Budi Santoso.

Witnessed by Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu and South Korean Ambassador to Jakarta Cho Tai-young at the Defense Ministry, the agreement represents the second phase of the KFX/IFX program, the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase.

Ryamizard said that aircraft technology was not a simple process but was something that needed support and commitment from all parties including the sharing of expertise, knowledge and technology.

“The agreement is a strategic early step for bot defense industries, especially PT DI, to develop production and technology capabilities, especially jet fighters,” he said, expecting the jet fighter to become Indonesia’s leading product.

Ryamizard revealed that the agreement would lead to production, maintenance or sustenance, modification and upgrade of the jet fighter.

Meanwhile, Cho said South Korea wanted to demonstrate that both countries were strategic partners.

He said the there were more than 2,000 Korean companies operating in Indonesia and that defense cooperation was also significant.

“We have bought from and sold to Indonesia a number of weapon systems,” he said.

“We want to upgrade the relations into a collaboration, such as KFX/IFX.”

South Korea has sold a squadron of T/A-50 advanced jet trainers and three submarines to Indonesia while buying transport and maritime patrol CN-235 aircraft from Indonesia.

“Jet fighter cooperation is not easy because it needs sophisticated technology,” Cho said. “South Korea is the right partner, one which can contribute to not only a jet fighter program, but also submarines.”

After the signing ceremony, Ha said that the program would use original South Korean technologies and would not affected by the US refusal to provide his country with four critical technologies, namely active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, infrared search and track system (IRST), electronic optics targeting pod and radio frequency jammer.

Budi said the US’ refusal would not hinder the US$7.8-billion joint program as there were other suppliers of such technologies.

He said that the first prototype would be produced by 2019 and that the fifth prototype would be produced at PT DI’s facility in Bandung.

“The jet fighter is expected to be operational in 2024 or 2025,” he said.

“PT DI will send a contingent of some 200 engineers to South Korea for the production preparation stage.”

He added that there would be minor differences between the KFX and IFX.

“The IFX will have a greater range as required by the Indonesian Air Force ,” he said.

“For air refueling, the IFX will use a probe system while the KFX will use a boom system.

“The third difference will be the data link. South Korea will use the US-made Link 16 and probably develop their own while we will also develop our own.”

Budi said Indonesia needed its own data link to allow communications with the Russian-made Sukhoi Su-27/30 Flankers heavy jet fighters.

Little Bird Contract Signed

Marhalim Abas
December 7, 2015
1Malaysia

SHAH ALAM: IN my post “When November Comes” I wrote that the contract for the MD Helicopters MD-530G aka Little Bird will be signed during the ASEM summit with US president Barack Obama in attendance. Actually, the contract signing for the light scout attack helicopter did took place during that week alas without the presence of the POTUS.

Despite the best efforts they could not slot the contract signing during the busy ASEM weekend. Both sides had wanted Obama to witness the signing as this was to be the most significant arms deal between the US and Malaysia, since the Hornet procurement in 1993.

Yes we did bought other stuff from the US in the intervening years like the M4 Carbines but nothing really significant like the Hornets.

Details of the direct commercial deal is expected to be made public at DSA 2016. The number of MD-530G signed was six, I was told and not eight as I had reported.

As mentioned previously, the Little Birds will be deployed in ESSCOM once delivered and fully operational. For the weapons package, its likely the standard suite like the Dillon Aero M134D minigun, HMG and rocket pods and guided rockets will be procured as shown by the picture below.

It is unlikely for the moment that we will be buying the Hellfire ATGM – cleared for the Little Bird – as this will need to be procured through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme. A future buy is still likely though for the rather pricey ordnance.

It is expected that the Little Bird version that was contracted was the same as the example displayed at LIMA 2015 earlier this year. Among others, the MD 530G displayed at LIMA featured the 650 shp Rolls Royce 250-C30 engine, longer main-rotor blades, high-capacity landing gear, the Moog Stores Management System (SMS), Harris Corporation’s RF-7850A-UA tactical radio and the Thales’ Scorpion helmet-mounted cueing system.

According to Wiki the M109 weight is around 27.5 tons so I guess it is ok.

Anyway iinm the Indonesian Army decision to buy the Caesar 155mm SPH was that it can fit inside a C-130 Hercules.
